The kids and I enjoyed it. In fact, I daresay it was better than I expected. I didn't cry.

I really liked the first part, but I really wish they had put more in it because they're going to have to fit so much into the next part! That's really my only complaint.
Oh, and that I can't re-read them until next week when I finally go back home. :( |
Saw it last night...GREAT movie!! I love watching the relationships with the characters develop (Ron and Hermione..so cute!!). Cant wait for part 2!!!!!

Just got back from the movie...couple of thoughts:
1. The people on both sides of me fell asleep, why go see a movie and fall asleep, you can sleep at home for free? 2. I laughed at the Harry/Hermione locket part in the vision, they took that a step deeper than I expected lol. Other than that, GREAT movie! |
Just saw it...I have to say, after hearing nothing but AMAZING things about the movie, I'm slightly disappointed. For me, it didn't live up to all the hype I heard. If I hadn't heard all the positive reviews, I may have liked it more. I think I just need to see part 1 and 2 together to really enjoy it...part 1 just didn't give enough story for me.

I've never read the books, and until last night, I had only seen clips of movies as my husband had it on the tv, but I never paid attention. We went on a double date to see it last night, and I thought it was good, though I don't know the whole backstory. I'll probably finally watch the rest of them so when the final one comes out, I'll understand the whole story.

I'm not a Harry Potter fan and have never seen an entire movie (I'm sure it's better than anything Twilight, though). The movies look great but I've never sat through one for whatever reasons. I still have two thoughts:
I considered seeing this but realized I'm not an HP fan. LOL. It was tempting and I'm sure my significant other will eventually Redbox it. I'm amazed that there have been 7 films (right?) and that part 2 for this film comes out next year (right?). That makes 8 films. Wow. That's pretty darn good even if I'm not a fan. |
My husband has never read the books, but I make him watch the movies with me. We will hopefully get to see it next weekend.

Saw it Friday. Enjoyed it. I LOVED how they did the story of the three brothers. Gorgeous and very arresting.
I honestly do not understand how anyone can see the movies without reading the books. There's NO explanation of motivation or connecting the action, or how decisions are made. There's just a scene, and then Harry says, now let's do this, and then another scene. The pacing is frenetic (except when it's slow and boring, although to be fair, the camping scenes in the book were boring too). I don't think I would like or be able to follow the movies at all if I hadn't read the books. I really don't like any of the movies, I just go see them because I love the books so much. |

So funny, I was actually a late-bloomer Potter-head. I made fun of people alllllll the time for being in college and reading/watching them. Then I took Young Adult Lit my junior year. HP was required reading along with 2 other series (there were 5 books at the time and we had to buy the boxed set). I grumbled about having to read all of them in this crazy time frame (her reading schedule had us reading the entire series in like 6 class days). I started and was HOOKED. It was convenient because Book 6 was due out that summer. I took the class in spring, and by the time school was out I had gone from "OMG dumb kid books" to "OMMMGGGG I need Book 6 NOW." People made fun of me for becoming a Potterhead in 16 weeks. So much of a Potterhead that I wanted to take the Harry Potter Senior Seminar the next year (capstone English course). Unfortunately it was really popular and I got stuck with Greek Rhetoric Senior Seminar. Curse you, KSU. |

I thought the movie was really well done. It was dark, but so was the book. I actually think that they did the pacing quite well, considering how much the book dragged during the camping section. I'm really happy they didn't focus on all of the time spent at Grimmauld Place trying to infiltrate the Ministry of Magic like it was in the book. The only part I really disliked was the topless make out scene. My theater was like at least 1/4 kids under 10. I just thought it was a little too over the top. The scene with Bathilda Bagshot/Nagini was kind of disjointed, and I can imagine that it would be confusing for anyone who didn't know the story. Can't wait for part 2!
