Horrible

I found this to be very disturbing!!!! I couldn't believe this at all. The thing that I am concerned about is that a LOT of people don't know about this. Now you know that if it was African Americans then it would have been ALL over the news and the media would have been all over this!!!! I am kind of angry that it is kind of swept under the rug. When I went to my African American class today NO one knew about these events, sorors at my school didn't know about it either, the bruhs didn't know. Could it be becuase they were Caucasion. On another note I do agree with them taking thier letters from them, but then again lets REALLY think about that! Is that really punishemnet???? All they are really doing is taking a previlage from them!!! I don't think that is enough!!! There should be MORE action taking about this matter. But the one thing that my African American Professor stated was that if this ever made it to court.... It would be a matter of FREE SPEECH and there is really nothing that would be done about it well I think that it should be some FREE #SS Kickin' as well!!!! I am just angry because of feel as if it was one of us the punishment would have been greater!!!!!!

I am trying to get African Americans on my campus involved and do something before this gets lost in the wind!!!

sorry I had to vent

You are so right! Why don't we get the national media involved? I'll e-mail Star at the View, Oprah, 20/20, Primetime Live, Dateline NBC, Geraldo Rivera, Larry King, 60 Minutes! Can y'all think of anyone else? Let me know.

They are so freakin' "proud" of what they did, why don't we let the entire country and world see it, too! You darn right! If the shoe was on the other foot, you know e'rebody would know it! Well, it's about dayum time. I'm on a mission now...

This actually brings tears to my eyes...Some of you seem surprised that occurences that like continue to happen today...But, as a student at a large PWU, the first thing I thought was "It figures"...(shaking my head)...However, what did actually surprise me is that they chose to mock a BGLO, pictures and all--as if they're not afraind of retaliation by other Blacks on campus...It's really sad--events like these occur every-so-often on PWCs every-so-often, especially since the number of Blacks on these types of campus is usually very low in comparison to the amount of whites...I also think another reason why these things continue to occur is b/c the schools allow them to...

I believe they--the members of that particular chapter that took part in the party--OWE the entire NPHC a public apology...They also need their chapter revoked (or at least suspended) from that particular campus...Schools should think about establishing a "Diversity Requirement, like they have at some PWU's (where each student has to take at least one class on an ethnic or racial group different from their own)...But, then again, I also think that "Sensitivity" and/or "Diversity" training, in my opinion, will not cut it, simply b/c you can't teach someone anything if their mind s not open to receive the information...

What is also sad is that there may be members of that chapter that did not participate in the party--yet they get "BRANDED" as "RACISTS" also...We actually have these Fratenities on our campus, and I have NEVER heard about them being involved in anything like this...The entire National Fraternities will now be looked upon badly by many people, and it gives Blacks another reason, as my Mother always said, to "Never Trust Them"...

I try to believe that my mother is wrong--that there are many out there that we can trust--but events like this make me wonder...

Sugar_N_Spice, you hit the nail on the head. If people's minds aren't open, the information won't be received. Period.

I'm Serious!

Ok, y'all. I just e-mailed Star Jones. I made a list and checking them off one by one.

BOOOOOOO! Loooooserrrrrrrsssssss!

Let us know what she says. She should reply at least by Friday.

Now, for the other peeps, I'm sure they'll pretend as if they are  as heck. They will not "understand" what the "issue" is.

See, we don't go around with their letters on mocking them with their toga parties, wild azz parties and toilet rolling antics. Shucks, if we did some of the stuff that they do, "we'd" be thrown in jail...(without the bail). Why would "we" want to go around at a costume party dressed as a Klucker? (KKK) That's too stupid...oh well.

This just shows more differences among "us" and "them".

Soror, they already don't "understand," judging from some of the reactions about this topic in the Greek Life forum.
And as an aside, I'm proud of how this particular thread has been handled. It just shows that some topics should be kept "in house."
;)

lovelyivy84 11-07-2001 06:47 PM

Sorors I think I am through with that topic. I just thoroughly lost my temper and am toooooo disgusted with some of THEM. Shame too, cause some some of my best friends are Sigma Chi's.

Steeltrap 11-07-2001 06:54 PM

Soror lovelyivy84,

You held it down on that thread.

All Sigma Chi's aren't as ignorant as we've seen in the general forums. I hope your friends understand.

Just reading these posts has drained me, although I'm not surprised about what happened and the reactions.

Thanks Soror! I know a number of Sigma Chis that I love to death, so I wouldn't blame the org for those guys. THey are just a mess!

I am going to take my own advice and relax, relate release. I'm turning off my computer and LEAVING MY OFFICE (and it really is 6 pm y'all, been here since 9 am). I am going home!

But I have GOT to say that we were all holding it down on that thread! My Sorors were working it! Shoot, my black people in general were holding it down. Boy we can argue, eh? lol

AKAtude 11-07-2001 07:27 PM

After my last post, I had to give it up because unfortunately some people will just never understand or "get it" so I'm ignoring the thread. You guys are right. This has been draining.

We may as well discuss it with those that do understand and are willing to take a courageous stand against ignornace, intolerance, and stupidity. As greeks, we have an awesome power as well as responsibility. If we came together, GLOs and BGLOs, we could stomp out some of this foolishness that takes place on college campuses. If houses can say no to alcohol, why not racism and bigotry?

AKA2D '91 11-07-2001 07:29 PM

Where have I been?

They've said NO to alcohol?
:eek::o

kiml122 11-07-2001 07:33 PM

Well......

I have been pondering this since I first read the article. I was angry when I first read it. I agree with everyone that in the year 2001 that stupid stuff like this is still talking place. I don't understand how anyone can feel that this is or was some kind of funny joke. That was my thinking after reading the article.....then I saw the pics today on the APhiA site and all I can say now is...
WTF....

Those pics were unbelievable in the fact that one they actually did it, but 2 they were stupid enough to take pictures...dumb asses.
