That Beloit mindset survey thing: http://www.beloit.edu/mindset/2014.php

...particularly the item about most of the class of 2014 not knowing how to write in cursive. Jeez.

Yeah, what's up with that? I usually write in cursive, and I graduated in 2009. I have one friend (who's 2 years older than me!!) who confessed that he can't read cursive so I have to print for him. I don't have terrible handwriting either. Ugh!

-my cousin started her sophomore year of high school. I remember when she was born.

-my brother's ten year high school reunion is this year.

-I was a fan of Transformers, GI Joe, and He-Man when they were cartoons and not big blockbuster movies (fyi-He Man is being redone into another movie).

-I write in cursive as well (I had high schoolers that didn't know how to write in cursive).

-That I'm ready for a nap after putting in an 8 hour day setting up my classroom (and that I took one)

-I remember a time when there was no such thing as DVD players, Internet, Cell Phones, HDMI, laptops, hybrid cars, etc...

-I remember when gas was less that $1.00 a gallon.

-That I graduated high school 13 years ago.

the fact that the majority of the girls in this upcoming pledge class were born in 1992+. I'm going to feel so old compared to them.

THAT and the new kid at work didn't know what captain planet was.

I remember being in an airport and only guys with suits had computers.

I turn 30 THIS decade.

Miriverite 08-23-2010 09:12 PM

I write in cursive as well.
I didn't get a cell phone until I started college.
I have a huge collection of VHS.
80's music is awesome.

NinjaPoodle 08-23-2010 09:24 PM

When I hear my FAVORITE songs..in an elevator, ugh, and then I start singing them.

Ugh, I've been there. I told a Saved By the Bell joke while giving a campus tour last year and only the parents laughed. ::facepalm::

And for the record, I always write in cursive.

People who were seniors when I was a freshman are turning 40 this year.

My 20 year high school reunion is next year.

This year's college freshmen were mostly born when I was in college.

Hearing songs that were popular when I was in high school on the oldies station. (Not even the classic rock station!)

christiangirl 08-23-2010 09:40 PM

My nephew started 6th grade today....and so very excitedly reminded me that next year he'll be a teenager.

I have been asked by various teenagers, "Who is NSync/BoyzIIMen/SWV?" and of course, the all-humiliating "What's a Spice Girl?"

Mr. SID came up with this one the other night: "You're getting old when you find that you're buying more Greatest Hits cds than the new ones." Yeah, my birthday is coming much too soon to laugh at that one!

You've learned to say "what or where is your tatoo," rather than "you have a tatoo?!"

The fact that I regularly used the Encyclopedia to do reports in elementary school and some of middle school.

I remember getting my first computer in 7th or 8th grade and taking 30 minutes to get online.

In middle school, instead of wanting a cell phone I wanted a pink motorola pager/beeper.

unicorn 08-23-2010 11:38 PM

I remember gas under a dollar.

My first car had an AM radio.

I went to a James Taylor concert in June and it was the BEST THING EVER.

People ask me to knit for their babies.

I prefer cursive.

When I was in elementary school, teachers made our worksheets on the mimeo machine.

I am 24 and a secret old lady.

Leslie Anne 08-23-2010 11:48 PM

My parents are in their 80s.

I now have to dye my entire head of hair to get rid of the grays instead of just the front. (And if you don't understand that...just wait, you will.)

I've started to listen to classical music because the other stations are "too noisy."

Probably too young to be contributing to this, but eh I have my moments.

1. The fact that I can remember things that happened in 1995, which is when the current crop of high school freshmen were born.

2. I remember when the Oakland Raiders went to the playoffs regularly

3. I remember when the Raiders came back from LA

4. Watching NBC Nightly News cover the Balkans War

5. Y2K and the hysteria. Incidentally because I was young and afraid of the apocalypse I attempted to count sheep to get to bed that night and made it up past 10,000.

6. Next year will be a decade since I moved back to Florida

7. The fact that when I went back to Michigan in 2005 I asked people "is XYZ still there" and they had no recollection of it.

8. In a year's time I'll be halfway through my undergrad.
