Yes! I got the original blue for an 11th (?) birthday present, along with my first gameboy-- it was a gameboy pocket. I actually can't remember how old I was but it was the first videogame I ever got that I never had to share with my older sister :) |

This is the first recruitment thread I've decided to follow since joining GC. Best of luck and have fun!
I'm totally cheering for Articuno, because c'mon, it's the coolest Pokemon out there. Eh? Eh? Articuno? Ice Pokemon? Cool? ...I'll stop. |
Here we go:
1. Vileplume This was the first house we went to, and I won’t lie to you…I was terrified. They warned us about the chanting and singing, but there’s really no way to prepare yourself for that, haha. The girl I talked to was really nice, but it seemed like she was trying really hard to sell the sorority to me instead of getting to know me. They were the newest chapter and she actually said at one point that they were just looking for lots of new members, which kinda turned me off to them a little. I definitely did like this house overall though and could maybe see myself fitting in here. 2. Pikachu These girls were SOOOO loud. I loved it! I talked to two girls in this house and they were both nice and we talked about things other than sorority stuff, which was a much appreciated break. While I was talking to the second girl her pearl necklace broke and scattered all over the floor – I felt so bad! Overall, I really liked Pikachu. 3. Moltres I talked to three really awesome girls here. We had conversation beyond the sorority and really clicked with quite a few girls. I guess a lot of people had dud conversations here, but I really enjoyed this party. 4. Zapdos The girl I talked to at this house was so nervous (I could tell and she mentioned it more than once). She was incredibly sweet though and wouldn’t stop complimenting my accessories. We both had the same major (not uncommon at my school, though) so we had things to talk about. The girls I talked to here were sweet and I wouldn’t mind coming back, but it wasn’t one of my favorites. 5. Rapidash This house has a really bad reputation on campus (according to the other PNMs I talked to – tent talk, I know, but sometimes you can’t escape) so I really didn’t know what to expect going in. I don’t know what the other girls were talking about, but I had a nice time here. The girls were so sweet and seemed to genuinely care about their sisterhood, and the rumors seemed stupid. Didn’t really feel too much of a connection, but everyone was very nice and I wouldn’t mind coming back. 6. Snorlax These girls wore adorable flowers in their hair, and it was so cute. I felt like the conversation lagged a little bit and my rusher just rambled on about random stories, and sometimes it was a little hard to follow. When she started talking about the philanthropies I really started to connect. She seemed genuinely connected to her house and had a lot of affection towards her sisters, and Snorlax is definitely one of my favorites after first round. 7. Mew This house was so loud and I talked to two VERY quiet girls. I couldn’t hear basically anything they said and I didn’t really have a good time at this party. I felt so bad having to say “I’m sorry, what?” after every sentence. 8. Eevee The first thing I noticed was that this was one of the prettiest houses on campus. So gorgeous! I talked to two really nice girls here, and the second girl and I joked around about our cell phone carrier and how much it sucked – it was a good conversation. However, I didn’t have a rec here and with so many girls honestly I didn’t expect to get asked back. I was a little sad because I really liked Eevee. 9. Dragonite I loved this house so much. I talked to three or four girls and clicked with every single one – the house was gorgeous and they all seemed so excited about their sisterhood and philanthropies. I felt like I could definitely fit in here. 10. Magikarp Loved Magikarp. Straight up. The house was gorgeous, the sisters were so sweet and (I thought) we had very genuine conversations. Really, really hoped to go back to Magikarp. 11. Squirtle I absolutely out of my mind fell in love with this house. The house was gorgeous, the girls were dressed up more than the other chapters which I thought was very classy, and I had wonderful conversations with all of them. This was the house that exceeded in academics which was also very important to me, so I really, really, really hoped to go back here. It was definitely my favorite of round one. 12. Alakazam Wasn’t a big fan of this house. It was only my second house and they all seemed tired and uninterested in what I had to say – all 6 of the girls I talked to. There was really no connection, especially with the girls being bumped so fast and I could not see myself fitting in here at all. This was my least favorite. 13. Charizard These girls were very sweet and we had some hilarious conversations. All I remember from this house is liking it a lot. 14. Articuno This house was absolutely GORGEOUS! I was paired with a girl I didn’t match with so well, but the second girl I talked to seemed nicer and more suited to me. It was a good party, but not great. We do an accept/regret system, and we picked our top ten and ranked the final four. Mine went as follows: (in no order) Vileplume Articuno Charizard Squirtle Eevee Magikarp Dragonite Snorlax Pikachu Moltres 1. Zapdos 2. Rapidash 3. Mew 4. Alakazam |
So excited to read more! Good luck!
GO SNORLAX!!! |
My schedule for the next day looked like so:
http://www.funcoolavatars.com/avatar.../Vileplume.gifhttp://avatars.postiton.net/avatars/Moltres.gifhttp://www.pocketmoon.com/phpbb/imag...rmalSprite.gifhttp://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2808/078rapidash.pnghttp://avatars.postiton.net/avatars/Dragonite.gifhttp://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/images/avatars/052.gifhttp://cdn.entertonement.com/image/0.../493/small.jpg I was disappointed to not have a full schedule, but I got my favorites back so I wasn't upset. Not bad! Vileplume: I liked this house a lot less. Their skit looked like they had thrown it together last minute, and the sisters looked very apathetic. I was slightly unimpressed and wished I had seen enthusiasm like I had in other houses. Moltres: I was still so-so about this house. Their skit was cute and the sisters seemed to get along with each other, but I didn't know if I felt at home. Zapdos: I really, really fell in love with this house this round. Their skit was so cute and I talked to two very nice girls. I got double rushed though after the skit, which made it really hard to make a connection. Rapidash: Wasn't a fan of this house. I had a girl who seemed completely uninterested in me and I had to force on the conversation, but we did a house tour and the house was very nice! Dragonite: Once again, loved this house. Their skit almost made me tear up, I just really felt at home here. Magikarp: I had a not so good experience here. The girl talking to me heard something another PNM next to me was saying and joined in their conversation and completely ignored me the entire time. It was so frustrating. Squirtle: I tried so hard not to, but I got so attached to this house. The girls were so sweet and their skit was hilarious, and I talked to so many different girls and had such good conversations about everything from grades to theater to philanthropies. I left so confident I would be invited back. We had a max of 10, and had to cut down to 6, so I could only "regret" one house. I cut Vileplume. |
Is it weird that I'm picturing actives in matching Pokemon costumes instead of Panhel tshirts? What an awesome walkout that would be.

So excited for you! Good luck and it sounds like you're having so much fun!

Feel free to carry hijack into another thread, as to not derail this one, if anyone cares to discuss. |
Yet another example of why rush is so bad. Not that I'm saying it should go away because that's a whole other argument that I'm not prepared to win, but can you imagine picking your friends outside of college by making them do a skit and judging them on it?
|
When I was there, Skit Day (officially called Sisterhood Day, fraternally called Sundress Day) was kind of a way to cling to frills. Most houses had elaborate decorations (the kind that make rooms completely unrecognizable) and themes. Skits were a way to present chapter accomplishments, campus involvement, famous alumnae, etc in a more direct, funny way. There were full-on costumes, hair, makeup, and all. Skits for recruitment usually incorporated 1 song and 1 dance number.

Glad I could help. And yes, a well-prepared PowerPoint or video seems much more up to date, and still has the opportunity to express creativity and say the things that might seem cloying if said face to face. I'm assuming nobody is doing ACTUAL slide shows, right? How last century is that?
|
I don't hate skits. I think the basic idea when they began was to give the PNMs a short break from talking and answering questions, just to relax and have fun. Which is good. They can be great IF they show the personality of the chapter and IF the chapter truly likes doing them. But at too many schools they're a "have-to" and the chapter's using a script from another chapter or HQ that has nothing to do with who they are at all.
