I think I might be the only person who doesn't think she is that talented.

And Dr. Phil you're right, she's just another statistic.

With all the $ she has earned why doesn't she actually put it to some good use and, I don't know, go to college. Oh but wait, that means she wouldn't have taken 9 years to get her GED after dropping out of high school. You ain't gonna have your voice forever you need to have a back-up plan.

pshsx1 06-15-2010 10:20 PM

lmfao at DrPhil's first post.

Congrats (or congrads... or congregations) to her, I guess. With all that money I'd AT LEAST be going to ITT Tech or something. I thought she was supposed be setting an example for all the other broke down country statistics. But then again, maybe I'm being too hard.. she did just get her "diploma."

I don't think I could ever stand to watch her show... did anyone see her movie? I thought it was a hot mess.

Senusret I 06-15-2010 10:25 PM

Why would you go to ITT Tech if you have a platinum album, a gold album, starred in a hit Broadway play, and oh yeah, won American Idol?

Y'all be smokin that GOOD crack.

pshsx1 06-15-2010 11:28 PM

lol I said AT LEAST. It's better than nothing.

^^^ This.

Unless she blows it all in the next few years she has plenty of time to try more education later if she wants. Odds are her learning difficulties are severe enough that she's probably not inclined in that direction when she has so many other options.

Lets see...

1. She's not the most successful American Idol.
2. Her broadway play, not on broadway anymore. She may have earned good reviews but she wasn't nominated for anything.

The whole point of my original comment and then the comment about ITT was that she won't have her voice forever. Someone new is going to come around and Fantasia will be history.

IMO Fantasia will not be a blip on the music radar 5-10 years from now. Fantasia's voice is not unique.

I just don't think people, especially musicians and actors, should put all their eggs in one basket, because eventually that basket will dry up. The whole point was that she needs a back-up plan.

But then again, if she really cared about her future beyond music or even considered a future beyond music, she wouldn't have taken 9 years to get a GED. But that is just my opinion.

I understand your point, it's just not a good one. So she's not THE most successful winner. She's still outsold all but five other finalists. Someone with a platinum album, gold album, a book, an appearance on Broadway, a reality show, and a starring role in an upcoming film is obviously not putting all their eggs in one basket.

That's advice you would give to a 16 year old who is auditioning for American Idol, not somebody who won.

My point still stands that she ISN'T the most successful AI! Because she's not.

DrPhil 06-16-2010 09:11 AM

The acceptable minimum educational attainment is a high school diploma or GED. She has that. I wouldn't expect for her to go beyond that unless her success and money wane.

At the same time, it isn't unheard of for a celeb to pursue a degree or certificate. Celebs with known learning disabilities have more resources than noncelebs with learning disabilities. And we don't know whether she's wealthy or just rich, the latter can easily disappear in a number of years.

LOL. It's Fantasia and I neither care about her career (I hate her voice) nor her personal life.

Your point is silly because you don't have to be the most successful American Idol winner in order to be a success.

Exactly.

Carrie Underwood is usually dubbed the most successful, but it'd be silly to say that Kelly Clarkson needs to drop everything now and go to college because she's not the MOST successful.

There was a story very recently posted on GC about a former NBA player who got a business degree of some sort. Not sure if it was an MBA or not. And since I can't remember his name, maybe he's not a true celebrity.

I agree that it isn't unheard of is my point. lol

I like Carrie and Kelly. :)

I don't like Ruben.

I only like Clay because he reminds me of Barry Manilow and Barry's my boo.

You caught me mid-edit. LOL. I don't know which NBA player did that but it's great. People don't always pursue degrees to make more money/advance their careers. Sometimes they are fulfilling a dream or a promise.
