Holy Jesus. This is going to be my last post on this thread only because it's clearly deteriorated into a bashfest, for no reason. I'm not even offended, I just can't figure out why it's so hard for so many people to understand.
Here are a few examples of some responses I was expecting: "I go to blank university and only knew of two juniors who received bids, so it's not impossible but it will be very difficult." "It depends on the school but I think, the fact that you chose other activities before rushing for two previous years, is a negative aspect." "I think being involved around campus will be to your benefit." "I think you need to read the other similar threads." (To which I would have responded the same way I have been: "I already have.") "It's always an advantage to be a freshman with a high GPA." "You're hopeless, if you still don't know what to expect." "what school/ how competitive are you talking about? Is your GPA high?"etc........ I certainly wasn't hoping for rainbows, but I was crossing my fingers for people to respond AFTER reading the OP. Alas, you win, I give up. |

Yes, Juniors get cut and do not receive bids. Happens all the time. We can't give you that here. We can't say "No, you are screwed" or "Yes- you have a shot!" because we don't know your specific school, the chapters involved, etc. We don't do (real) blanket responses regarding individual chances. The first advice you received was great: Quote:

I'm so so sorry we got all Tyler Durden on you and told you you are not a unique snowflake.
I'm so so sorry that there isn't a thread that says "If you are a junior rushing at the University of Southern Mississippi, if you have written for the school paper and played volleyball on the second newest dorm's intramural team, and if your GPA is 3.25, you have approximately a 75.32659951% chance of receiving a bid to your first choice and a 82.264568765165% chance of receiving a bid in general. Proceed accordingly." If you want to "out" your school, go ahead, but the majority of GCers are not going to ask you that straight out. The general belief on here is that it's good to encourage PNMs to be discreet about where they're rushing, especially if they are in unique circumstances. |

You've gotten as much help as GC is willing to provide. Best to let this go, now. Good luck with recruitment. Oh, and your flounce is showing. |
If you knew the answers, why did you ask the question?

LOL wide-eyed, the lesson to be learned here is:
if 2+ users with join dates preceding 2009 make any comments that you do not agree with or feel are being sarcastic/rude... don't even try with a comeback. you WILL fail. miserably. This coming from a fellow recent member :D |
LOL @ all the possible responses she wanted being somewhere in all of the 90 threads she says she read.

If you would like to address me, do it here.

PMing me about it is not going to get you a different answer! |
AzTheta: Yep, I'll be sure to write a post on it.
wide-eyed: As a non-traditional PMN, I can tell you that there is still so much knowledge to be gained from this forum. Keep in mind though, it's general knowledge. There is a fantastic thread someone linked to early on that has lots of information on what to do and expect when you rush. Seriously, take some time and read it. You won't know what your chances of getting a bid are until you actually try, but at least you can be better prepared to do well. |
As I tell my children and my students:
IF I TELL YOU I DON'T KNOW, I DON'T KNOW. I am not hiding information, I am not waiting until you beg and plead; I DON'T KNOW. Of course, my children in question are 7 & 8, and the students 12 - 14. |

Dear Wide-eyed: As other people have said, it can be hard going through as a junior and it does vary from campus to campus. I am a member of an NPC group and my daughter went through recruitment last fall and joined a different group at the same SEC school. There is one junior in her pledge class who went to one party the last three days of recruitment. She is a great girl and when I have seen her with her sisters, she seems to be always smiling. If you don't try, you will always wonder if you should have. If you do try and don't wind up with a bid, you haven't lost anything. If you do find a home with a group you enjoy, great! The greek advisor should be able to tell you recruitment statistics, such as placement numbers, number of upperclassmen placed, etc. Keep an open mind and good luck!

The sad thing is, these new posters will read a handful of closely related threads, each of them answering their "unique situation" 90%. But nooooo that's not enough, they need 3 billion different posters answering at 100%.
What happened to drawing inferences from what is presented? No one wants to put 2 and 2 together, they just want it to equal 4, wrapped in rainbows and sunshine, and nicely placed in their e-laps. #lamesauce |
