^^ Agreed. I am one of many in the looks department. Hopefully I can show each house what sets me apart, though. :)

UPDATE: Once I started talking about Greek life (how I was excited to Rush and how much about the process I didn't know about) I actually found out that one of my classmates has a sister who's graduated and was a member of DDG. Wow! Definitely from an unexpected place. I'll call the office for Greek affairs soon (perhaps this weekend) and we'll see how it goes! :)

She would be a great person to write you a rec!! But try to get to know her better as well ;)
|
@mittens, I didn't check this thread before I PM'd you (duhh) but I've been friends with this girl for foreverrr (about two years) and she's so quiet and nice. At least I could maybe get to know my reccomend(er?) better so the rec could have more substance. What a great opportunity :D . Very pleasantly surprised with that.

Do you mean DDD, DG or KKG?
|
hopefully your resources will ask if you need anymore recs. as they get ready to write one to their sorority. i always offer to pass on a pnms information to friends in different sororities-i always want the pnm to have the best chance possible.

It was DG. My bad...I don't think the sister was familiar with the Greek scene and said something incorrectly. I thought DDG was a sorority too but maybe I'm mistaken. It was also at Duke University so it could've been a local. I'm thinking it was DG too, though.

there is a delta gamma chapter at duke, so you are probably right in thinking that DG is who your friend meant to refer to.

Wow, it's been a long time and things have changed enormously. Anyhow, instead of posting a new story and trying to update everybody, I did end up getting into my first choice at U of F: Zeta Tau Alpha. I was initiated this past week. :) !

congrats! :)

I know you said you didn't want to post a story, but I'd love to hear you. Yay for the sunshine state!

My story (condensed):
I was unsure about rushing. What did it entail? What did women in great chapters have that I needed to acquire in order to be part of some kind of sisterhood or group? I didn't understand; furthermore I didn't understand the way formal recruitment went and what it had to do with anything as pertaining to the aforementioned qualities necessary to being in a sisterhood. Furthermore, I'm not the typical Greek, nor am I the typical anything. I never was in a clique in highschool, but never had many friends from many different cliques. I did my own thing and ended up in a decently-ranked school. At the time, I had a roommate that went through Rush with me anddd you guessed it - she was the stereotypical (she said this herself) blonde-haired, blue-eyed All-American cheerleader. Nothing wrong with that; she was a sweet girl and we got along just fine. HOWEVER, Rush was absolutely fantastic for her in that she never got dropped once. I, on the other hand, was dropped by all but five houses (out of 16 total sororities), three which I chose to pref at. Yes, it was something of a bummer, but my self-esteem didn't take a beating because I understood that I wasn't what the typical sorority was looking for, so I didn't expect fantastic, or even negative, results. I didn't fit into a clique so I couldn't be in a very very Southern sorority, nor could I be in something of a South Floridian one...there was no clear-cut answer for me. BUT THEN..I realized something on my card. Zeta Tau Alpha, a very well-respected, and even revered, (a top?) house at the University of FL, kept calling me back. Interesting. I went with it. Filling out my bid card wasn't easy. I had preffed at 3 great houses, 2 of which I really really felt connected with. After deciding to take a chance and choose a sorority that housed many a Dazzler (the UF dance team) and Gator cheerleader, but also more than a few engineering, information specialist, and biology majors, I chose it. Zeta Tau Alpha. On bid day, the girl that preffed me cried and hugged me. Everybody was so nice! :) My roommate also chose ZTA. There's no happy ending yet, because I'm just starting to feel at home and get my bearings in college, but I might come back 6 months later again with an even better tale! |
Let it be known that I hate the University of Florida.
That being said, I'm glad it all worked out well! |
