yes! I do have friends in chapters. However this is a subject I try to stay away from even with them

But I think if a chapter is going to take a junior over a freshman, it is likely going to be a girl that alot of members know/like. A junior also has to have alot of leadership and campus activities on her resume to compete with freshmen with TONS of activities from HS. And also, good grades. Many many girls will have perfect GPAs from HS. |
I wonder does UT still have the "free junior" thing? Where the number of juniors doesn't count into the quota

Also, just because a chapter has the option to take sophs and juniors, does mean they will do so. See this thread: http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...d.php?t=111915 |
There are several groups at UT, such as Texas Sweethearts, Wrangler Darlin's, Texas Spirits, that definitely give you that "sorority-feel." As everyone else has said, recruitment at Texas is VERY competitive and VERY difficult, and even more so if you are not a freshman or do not have a lot of close upperclassman friends in the sororities that can pull for you. If rush does not work out, I suggest you look into these spirit groups, because they are a very good alternative if you are looking for all the aspects of a sorority. Good luck!

i believe that the "free juniors" feature only allowed "x" number of juniors to be freebies-like 5 or less.

You are fighting against freshmen and even sophomores, so your chances of getting into a "top chapter" or the ones that you've done researched on and "like" are probably slim to none. Why would they pick you up over a freshmen or a sophomore? Even though you have friends in sororities at UT, that could help, but the people who you talk to recruitment may or may not like you. So it's a possiblility you may get cut from your friend's house as well. Let me just say that even though you have done "research" on these sororities, you are liking them based on what you see on the outside. Give all sororities a fair chance during recruitment, feelings will change. |
I really appreciate all the help you ladies have been giving! I didn't realize just how much went into rushing with recs and quotas and everything. I know I have alot going against me. Being a sophomore and all. Ive heard many negative things about AA girls rushing but I'm going to give it my all! Thanks Ladies!

What's interesting to me is that there would be any Sophomore or Junior at Texas who hasn't been exposed to at least ONE girl in a class that was a member of a chapter (any sorority), unless you're a transfer. I mean, your friends CAN help you, but you can't bank on them. Now, I've also seen it, especially with sophomores, where the friend is doing everything she can to pull the girl through, but ultimately, it comes down to quota and the good of the house. |

I think too, and I hope I can I can speak for us, we have been really happy with the process at Texas. At least I know I, and my alumni friends, have. I understand the selective process. It's a fine line once you get going. However, even with RFM, you still have to KEEP the girls and make them happy to be there. If they aren't happy, they'll leave, and you're back where you started. There is being selective, then there's being on page 3 of your Bid List. It's always fun, and I've enjoyed being a part of the process, even after all these years. Good luck to your house at Recruitment. Hook 'Em! |
