On an aside,
how does Bid Day work in most SEC schools? Are you given the bid by the fraternity in person? Are you mailed your bids? Do you get put in a room with yoru bids presented to you and you have to choose one? I'm very curious about this. |
Most SEC schools do rush during the spring of your senior year and then the proceeding summer. You can be given a bid anytime during that process. Most schools also require a formal rush sometime in late August during which a handful of guys will be given bids. Formal rush is really for guys who are out of town or working all summer and cannot attend rush events, or guys who know don't know enough about the system to know to go in the summer.
As far as the actual bids being given out: After a rushee has met enough guys and everyone has an impression of him, a vote will take place. If he passes, he will likely be invited to a party and at some point will be secluded from the party and extended a bid. This actual process varies from fraternity to fraternity and school to school. If the bid is accepted it usually results in a beer shower. Also, it's a sad but true fact that most large southern fraternities are unlikely to give a bid to a foreigner or minority. It has been done, but it's rare. Don't hate the players, hate the game. |

So Rush starts the spring of your last high school year?
That's intense. Here, where Greek Life is maybe 1% of the population, granted it is a large school, sometimes rush don't even realize they are being rushed until we invite them to something smaller like a social or something. |
So I don't know if this is common at other universities but at mine sororities can get a guy cut from a certain fraternity. If they fill he's creepy or doesn't fit the profile of a certain fraternity they tell them. So during the parties you have to be careful, have fun, flirt a little, while not overstepping your boundaries. Anyway Wednesday during the day, I get a text from call from red, orange, pink, blue and black all inviting me back that night. During lunch though i talked to a couple of my sorority friends and told them i was considering pink. Every last one of them said they couldn't see me in this fraternity. That I didn't look or talk like them. Also they said they never partied with them nor had any events with them. So I don't really think it was due to peer pressure, maybe more realizing what they were talking about I decided to cut pink. So that night i changed up the order a little bit.
Orange- I had a great time here once again. Got to know alot of more people due to their being less rushees. I loved being here and got invited to their party that night. Black-Again the funniest guys I've ever met. Plus all the girls at their event said they loved hanging out with these guys and they were all cool. First time I asked around i got no negative opinions about a certain fraternity. Got invited to their party Blue-I was having a great time here, until one guy invited to his room to drink a little bit. I don't know it rubbed me the wrong way. I guess i was trying to keep an open mind and not believe their reputation as a party all the time fraternity, but they continued to validate this stereotype. Got invited to their party Red-Went here last because this was their alumni night, so of course dad was there. Surprisingly though had a really really good time. Heard some stories about my dad that I never knew and just had a good time. They didn't have a party that night. But had an after meet and greet with the alumni. So i went to red first, had a good time. I knew alot of alumni so i didnt stay that long. I went to Black after and had a blast. It seems like everyone was having fun and it was hard to see who was a rushee and who was a brother because they just seemed to accept everybody. Blue, stopped by didnt stay long it was kind of late, but the sorority they were with that night. Every girl in there was beautiful, so I was rather impressed by that. Didnt get to make it to Orange stayed at Black alot that night, but I sent them a text still showing my interest. |

I'm just wow at this. You complained one fraternity turned you off because they didn't talk about anything but partying. Yet you dropped a fraternity you got along with because they didn't do events with the sororities. I'm sorry dude, but it sounds like you are interested in going Greek for all the wrong reasons .

I like reading a rare fraternity live recruitment. The OP is just too detailed and has typed a couple of things that should've been unsaid. |

Let me try to explain it to you this way. You are a Brother from the day you are initiated to the day you die. I know brothers who have been best friends with each other for over 50 years, yet wouldn't have even met if not for the fraternity. That is what being in a fraternity should be about, the unending bonds. Look, as you get older you are going to get to a point where you are no longer interested in partying. You will also if you are fortunate find a woman you will marry and spend the rest of your life with. Partying and girls might be important now, but not for the rest of your life. Your Brothers on the other hand will. It should be all about the connections you feel, not who has the best parties or hangs out with the prettiest girls. |

Thursday was the first day we could of receive bids. I went to Black first and they all were cool. As I was leaving i was offered a bid. I told them i was making no decisions until friday though. I then went to Red. Immediately was offered a bid. Told them the same thing though. Then I went to Orange I was having a great time, one of my friends was offered a bid. I waited a little . But no bid was offered to me at the time. Blue, they had a nice setup and i was offered another bid, i told them the same thing though. I was waiting. Friday night I was invited back to all the fraternities. I went to Orange first. i was enjoying myself but after about an hour or so, i realized that I was not going to recieve a bid. They were my first choice in my opinion at that time. I decided to cut Blue because i felt they just didn't have the brotherhood I was looking for. So it was down to Red and Black... i picked..... Black and am now pledging Sigma Chi ΣΧ |

Congratulations on going for the right brotherhood for you and selecting Sigma Chi. I hope your dad is supportive of your decision as well! Good luck with your new brothers. |
