Hubby really wanted to see this so we went this afternoon. I really enjoyed it, but maybe that's because I wasn't expecting much more that stunning visuals.

I just finished watching it (god bless red box)

1. The special effects were AMAZING!!! The plots was, as others said, predictable.

2. Had James Horner pegged as the composer within the first 5 minutes, but I'm one of those freaks who ADORES scores, so it is pretty easy for me to peg James Horner, Hans Zimmer and John Williams within minutes. It frightens my family when I can say who the composer is and I'm right. (Heck, I was able to figure out the James Horner did the music for Radio because I heard a "theme" from Titanic)

3. Sam Worthington. YUMMY!!!!!! Now I think I shall go watch T4, just so I can see him again.

Just watched it on Bluray. I actually kind of liked it.

Finally saw it. Glad I only paid a dollar to Redbox. Anything more and I would have been mad.

I FINALLY WATCHED IT.

I never saw any of the movies listed in this thread, but I did intentionally "boycott" this movie just because everyone said it was a rip-off of previous stories. I read the spoilers and everything.

Did I like it? Yes, a lot, though it's not in my top ten favorite movies.

There were elements to the story which made this way deeper to me than what the summaries above were. It was (to me) about the main character's journey through the grief of losing his brother as well as the grief of being paralyzed. That's really all I thought through the whole movie.

Anyway, definitely a great movie.

I'm glad you liked it, although having watched it on DVD I must say that the whole 3D in theater experience thing was really important to my appreciation of it. But perhaps I paid more attention to the plot on DVD and the 'i really want to fly on Pandora' thing in the theater.

^^^ I sometimes get uncomfortable in movie theaters with action flicks.... I don't know what happened to me, but over the years I realllllly stopped liking the feeling of being transported lol. Maybe it was all the Imax movies at the Smithsonian at a young age.

Or you're like me and don't like people sitting to close? :) I tend to have to suppress my dislike of people sitting behind me then too. 3D glasses tend to give me a slight headache too. I blame it on the fact that they don't fit over my glasses well.

I don't see a lot of movies in theaters but I'm glad Avatar was one, and it was with someone I didn't mind being close to.

I saw it for the first time a few days ago as well. I concur. It was good, but not in my favorites list. Reminded me of a futuristic Dances with Wolves (and that's my favorite movie of all time). Special effects were great, but the plot wasn't original.
