I am always so pleased to hear of a Big Eight rush story. The schools of the old big eight conference have very old and established greek systems with beautiful, gracious houses. These schools, like Nebraska, often have many strong chapters rather than one or two "top tier" groups and then "everyone else".

FutureGreek, best of luck, you will have a wonderful time. My parents moved to Nebraska while I was in school at a different Big Eight school. One year, about 40 of our sisters from Lincoln came down for a game. Even though you guys cleaned our clocks, we had a terrific time.

Have fun and let us know how it all turns out. We are rooting for you to find a great home!

Wow, I was just browsing some chapter web sites of the Nebraska sororities while waiting for Project Runway to start, and saw this on Gamma Phi's Pi chapter site---

You have to have a 3.5 out of high school to be considered. Their overall house GPA was 3.615 for Spring Semester 2009 and 23 members achieved a 4.0 GPA that semester. That's very impressive! It said they had won national awards for scholarship, among other things. I guess so....(They looked really cute too.)

Shouldn't futuregreek? be getting a bid tonight? I want to hear what happened! Update pleaaaaseeeeee :)

They handed them out yesterday at two-ish I think ...the girls are with them most of the day and evening...hopefully she had a fun night!

Great Big 12 (or Big 8 for us older folks!) story. I'm love to learn more details about her recruitment following bid day if futuregreek? feels comfortable enough to share.

Thanks for putting that up, Irish, I knew I had just read that! I read the one that had all the colleges in NE on it and was surprised at some that had disappeared. Even AOII used to be at Morningside in Sioux City, right? And Chadron, a long time ago?

AOII is still at Morningside. Yes, we used to have a chapter at Chadron but there are no greeks there now. You can see the whole list here.

Thanks, Irishpipes, I saw it. I always think things like that are interesting, no matter what the chapter is! That is an amazing list!

Yep they have a very high GPA required.....doesn't seem to hurt them in recruitment though.

Evidently not! Browsing the website, they look like a terrific chapter. Very active and very cute! Obviously, very smart as well.

I hope that FutureGreek? can come back and share good news with us.

Maybe her absence means she's busy enjoying herself with her new sisters? *fingers crossed*

I'm back!

Unfortunately, I only preferenced two houses out of the three I was invited to. No surprise, I got the dreaded phone call. :-( I was upset and miserable for the whole first weekend of college when I was supposed to be excited and happy. Eventually I convinced myself that I just wasn't the "greek" type, but I always saw the girls in their letters and walked by their houses, and I still wanted to be a part of it all.

Now, 3 semesters later, I am HAPPY to report that I have reluctantly been attending open recruitment events and recently received a bid! :)

I have to admit, before I when through recruitment my freshman year, I never would have thought about joining this house. But after meeting the women in it, I now know they are all wonderful and I was stupid for listening and believing stereotypes.

Because I just wrote what I did, I won't mention the name of the sorority, but I am 100% confident in my choice and know that I am going to love it. I'm just so excited!!!

To the PNMs - It's been said on here a million times, but I still learned the hard way...don't listen to the stereotypes, make up your own mind. Also, if things don't work out the first time. Don't give up! Take some time off of the Sorority hunt, figure out who you are, and then look again.

To the GreekChat experts - Thanks for your advice over the YEARS (lol). Now, how can I change my user name so that I can go introduce myself in my new sorority's forum?

Congratulations! I'm happy for you and it was fun reading about NE recruitment. My SIL is a Kappa from there.
