oh and I just want to clarify, I'm not at a Tennessee school, I'm just from Tennessee. :)

Most of the people posting on this thread know that.

Was it necessary to mention a group?

Virtually everyone posting in this thread recognizes her campus and has done nothing to out the campus, any particular chapter, or the PNM. Everyone has been nothing but positive about the campus and the chapters.

What was accomplished by your post? If you need that many frownie faces and embarrassed faces, then perhaps it wasn't appropriate to say? Especially given the timing and the OP's state of mind right now?

Should you come to your senses and delete your post then I will delete this one. I already did what I could to disguise the POSSIBLE group in question.

What difference does it make, especially at this point?

Your reaction seems kind of over the top considering the membership of the poster in question.

I am curious if the OP will come back and let us know how things turned out. form what I have seen on other threads, it looks like recruitment has been very successful!!

Well, if the group she didn't like is who some people think, it doesn't look like they would be missing her if she chose not to add them to her pref list. Not to mention, with more than 80 women in a pledge class, I think ANY woman can find other women to bond with.

I think this mathematically true, but someone please correct me if I'm wrong. If you list both chapters and you are not high up enough on #1's or #2's bid list, then you have a second chance to be in #1 through quota additions. Right?

It's myth that you are less likely to get your #1 if you "suicide."

Even if you "suicide", you have the SAME chance at getting a bid to your #1 as anyone else who listed ALL of their pref choices.

The only difference is that I believe "suiciding" makes you ineligible to be a quota addition (if the school utilizes them).

So you have the same shot at getting #1, but the risk is high because if you DON'T get a bid to #1, you get released from recruitment with no bid at all. That's why Rho Chis and such discourage it.

I don't think I'm following you, KSUViolet06. If you don't "suicide"/ISP then you are eligible for quota additions, which gives you another chance to be placed in chapter #1 (or chapter #2), I believe.

When you ISP you must be high enough on chapter #1's bid list to get in before they fill up to quota. On the other hand, if you maximize your options and your campus guarantees a bid when you maximize your options, then you could end up in chapter #1 through quota additions if you are not high up enough on either #1's or #2's bid lists. That's why I was saying I thought your chances at getting a bid to #1 are higher because you have a second chance at getting the bid.

Or am I misunderstanding something here?

I think you're right, but I'd be careful telling this to PNMs, simply because they will have selective listening. They will want to forget the part about actually being willing to accept the bid to the number 2 group if you were to get it either from regular bid matching or quota additions.

Listing all the groups for which you are eligible increases your chances at getting a bid, but I don't know that I'd focus on it raising the chances to any particular one, since I don't think any campus guarantees that you QA to your top group.

Oh no, you're right. I guess you could say that your chances are slightly lower just based on the inability to be QA. I never thought of it that way.

Ha ha, you are so right. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy and that the Rho Chi (or more appropriate name for this campus) was correct when she said your chances were improved. Your chances are improved... to get a bid to either chapter :)

Thanks for your confirmation too, KSUViolet06. I love puzzles and being an adviser for several years really got me thinking about some of the odd statistical situations that sorority recruitment can create.

This is so true whenever you're telling young people something they don't want to hear.
