Phi Mu has suspended operations of the Gamma Chi chapter of Phi Mu at UNC-Greensboro.

Phi Mu Fraternity was notified on May 12, 2010,that the chapter is suspended from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro for a minimum of four years for violation of the University value of respect.

The suspension by the Fraternity and University is in response to violations of Phi Mu national policies including chapter members' rampant misuse of social media, disrespectful treatment of fellow members, and hazing incidents.

This makes me very sad! First, we lost Randolph-Macon to hazing and now UNC-Greensboro. Does anyone know anymore details about either of these risk management issues or what happened? Anyone from either of these campuses-do you have any idea?

What is rampant misuse of social media mean? Badmouthing other orgs on Facebook?

I have no clue. I was thinking the same thing. I can't imagine what they must have been doing. What sucks is at our last convention (2 years ago) we actually had Toria Tolley, former CNN news anchor, give a speech on how to be careful with what you do and say on social media sites. She talked about not going around and harassing people or putting up pictures you wouldn't want your grandmother to see. She is right. I am saddened by this loss of a great chapter. I really hope things work out, in the end and that we get to go back in 4 years.

It's possible that they posted pictures of some kind of RM violation. And it mentioned disrespectful treatment of fellow members, so maybe the two are linked?

That could be it. I wonder if it was for a stupid reason (like having the girls do a scavenger hunt-which is seen as hazing at some schools) or for something truly legit.

From Penn State this year:

IFC: AEPi lost their charter after two of their pledges were hospitalized with alcohol poisoning.

Panhel: Tri Delta lost their charter for hazing.

How about you read some posts before you do any posting? You'll see that these things have been taken care of. Secondly, when you post a charter revocation or risk management issue on GC, you must ALWAYS post supporting documentation from a reputable news source or from the groups website.

I think it's funny how he went on his "OMG HAZING IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO" rant and the proceeded to post about chapters losing charters because of hazing.

Go figure.

Because in real life he is a troll.
