Yes you can buy the CD, yes you can buy the cassette, so what. Thats apart of that you know umm industry. People really get real, if you don't like it change the station. Most radio stations sad to say are not made for little kids, besides the music, they TALK abut some crazy, graphic things as well. If you think some of it sucks then thats you,and not popular demand if it's being played on every station.Just cause you personaly don't like something, mean the rest of us have to stop listening to it, because it says this or that.
Thats why there are so many battles today, cause people want to tell others what we should or should not listen too. If I pay for the CD and it says XYZ curse word and says this and that , not only am I going to play it, I am going to blast it out my speakers, so evvvveryone can hear it :) You talk about "Porn for your Ears" if thats the case then things people say out of there mouths could be "porn for the ears" and what? we should tell them " Oh I am sorry you are no longer allowed to speak" I think not. Really, people only have these major music battles is when it comes to Rap because they say everything and anything, SO WHAT . But I guess it's ok then for Briteny Spears to shake her but on tv in her flesh colored costume to do her thang in front of the kiddies, but that must not be porn then ,huh :eyerolls: As for my post, it's ok for you to curse in your post, which I have not in any of my posts in this thread, but yet you want to say something about my "pissy post" I can say whatever I want however I want, whether it is pissy or not. Last time i checked I didn't think you ran how or what I say, unless you are a new censor:D DGPhoney~ [QUOTE]Originally posted by SigmaChiCard [B] They can, but that means they can purchase the cd, or cassette or what-have-you. I am personally indifferent to hearing it, I like some of it, I think some of it sucks, but I don't really think that most of it should be on the radio. I mean, I listened to the radio nonstop when I was in first grade, we're shocked that kids are how they are today, then blame it on the parents....I mean seriously, how ignorant/oblivious of a society are we living in? You might say, but the parents can control what they listen to....no they cannot, not when some of this shit is played on every station, should we just say...oh, okay let the few songs ruin the experience of radio for my child because a few people want to hear the radio stations playing the filfth, rather than just buying it themselves. |
I don't think it has much to do with rap music..well maybe considering that rap and hip hop are different...I listen to a good amount of hip hop..and if anyone knows what I'm talking about..it's that underground stuff..the stuff that lashes out at this bs commercial rap. I'm talking about Dead Prez, GP Wu, Goodie Mob, Talib Kwali and Hi-Tek, Lava Darkman, Jedi Mindtricks, M.O.P.
some good old Outkast, DJ Honda, Mos Def, Gang Starr....and many many more.... maybe I've adapted to that msg....and it seems to be a positive one... but..that's about all I have to comment about...it's impossible for me to get mad at things on the internet... And it is just as easy to not click on this thread as it is to change a station...easier infact, because you wouldn't even have to click...while having to change a station exerts physical energy. d |

Strict parental control is something I'm used to. I was raised by older parents and if I'm blessed with children, I will probably be close to 40 when I become a mother. And I would prefer that my kids not listen to offensive music. |
First let me say if anyone believes that the music played on radio is because of "public demand" you are mistaken. It's all about money and promotion, labels and contracts. That's why FM came to be in the first place. It was an alternative to commercial type music. Sadly, it lost it's vision years ago and has fallen prey to the same trapping AM lost it's footing in. Bottom line on this is-you may not realize it, but you ARE being told what to listen to.
As far as children go...GOOD LUCK. You see, you may be able to control their viewing and listening material in your own home, but when they visit their friends, they will be exposed to the interests and values of another family and its members. Example-Everyone said "You've got to see Something About Mary". I RENTED it and while watching, my son walks in plops down and the famous scene appears on screen. Point is-If you can't feel comfortable watching or listening to something in front of your kids or your parents is the proper venue for such material free airways? I'm not calling for censorship, but I do believe that free access should have some guidelines and for all you Democrates, may I quote one of your leaders-"It takes a village to raise a child." Oh, and for all those who may believe the ATTACKS were really retaliation-Our Western culture (Hollywood, Music, Capitolism etc.) is exactly the excuse the fanatics are using to annihilate us. |
brilliant posting justamom, I cannot decide if some of our views conflict, or support though. Regardless, not exposing children to the profanity of this music in our home is one thing we can do among many others we cannot, so it's not entirely in vain..do you agree? And like you said, the radio tells you what you want to hear rather than just promoting new bands and new music. Children are most easily convinced, so they are of course going to like it when the radio tells them that they should.

Justamom,
To clarify, I was putting out a hypothetical situation if I ever have children. I'd expect my kids to possibly be exposed to some stuff I disdained, especially if they do go to other kids' homes where the parents have different values. But I'd also hope that I'd raise my children to the point where they would rather listen to Miles Davis than most popular music, including boy bands and teenybopper girl singers, which I consider vapid, about 60 percent of the time. :) |
SigmaChiCard- I really think we do share the same philosophy. I just get "wordy" sometimes. One's home IS the last place we have control over the pablum our kids consume. Even attending religious based schools can't guarantee your philosophies will be taught. You will be/are(?) a great Dad, Uncle, Big Bro or Pal to any kid.
Steeltrap-I hope I didn't offend you by my post. No intention to We are pretty much in agreement too. I also believe as parents we must just "turn the damn thing off". You were right too when you said "You hoped they would prefer-your example-Miles Davis." If they are introduced to quality (listening, viewing, reading) and it is encouraged, the odds are much greater that that is what they will be drawn to. BTW, Miles Davis-EXCELLENT! I wonder if the young ladies on this board will feel the same about these issues when they are raising children of their own. I may have my genders mixed up. |
Justamom,
I'm not offended at all, just wanted to clarify. I'm female, by the way. ST |
To get back on topic.....
Here's a nasty song that gets played at least once a night at every Orlando club: it's by Lords of Acid and the name is something that I'm not about to write on a public forum. It begins with a P and ends with a Y. Need I say more? |

Who are they, alternative, rap, or R&B? |
curiouss I think ZTAngel said "It begins with a P and ends with a Y. " for a reason. Not to actually use the word. I don't mind the word at all but I am sure some girls may find it offensive.
