Can't wait to hear the rest!!! I'd be happy with either spring or summer, they sound great.

I'm just curious why your rankings changed. It seemed like you had a good time at both parties (or halls I guess!) but suddenly ranked Spring over Summer.

I'm excited for Pref Night!

I think it was because of Tara. Her showing me pictures of us from middle school was really touching. It was so close between the two though. I probably changed my mind about every 20 minutes or so.

And because i'm not going into work for another hour i'll post a bit more...

I was pretty sick to my stomach all day Friday waiting to hear if I’d been invited back to anyone’s Pref. I was hoping I’d get at least one invitation, but was terrified that I wouldn’t. Finally, it was time to meet with my Rho Chi and find out and I sat there shaking. She handed me 2 envelopes. 2 invitations! Both Spring and Summer had invited me back! I was so excited!

I’d be attending Summer first, and Spring second. I spent Friday night in my dorm trying to get caught up on a week worth of school work knowing that if I got a bid, I’d not have any time to do any homework the rest of the weekend and if I didn’t get one, I’d be too depressed to do homework. It worked out pretty well either way.

So, Saturday came and I spent a lot of time getting ready for Pref. I wore my favorite black dress. I loved that dress. I considered it my “lucky dress”, so I was glad I had it with me.

My first party was Summer. Marie picked me up at my door and put a bracelet on my wrist (i'd have to return it at the end of the party of course, but it had meaning for the pref ceremony or something). She handed me a flower and took me to the party. Their pref was so pretty! It was held at a building on campus and it was just beautiful. The food was delicious and the ceremony was so heartfelt. At the end of the night Marie said, “I’m not supposed to say this, but I really want you as my sister.” And I cried. I was pretty sure I wanted to be her sister too!

My second party was Spring. Tara picked me up at the door. It was weird because she didn’t give me a flower or anything. They did that AT the party. Their party was at the Spring House at a nearby college. I walked in and was given the flower, one of my favorites. The house was so beautiful. I remember that all the girls wore black, so I kind of looked like one of them already. A couple of people said, "See, you already fit in here at Spring!" Their ceremony was beautiful too, it was sad though and I cried a lot. Tara held my hand when I cried and told me how much she wanted me to be a Spring, and I thought I’d like to be one too!

Then it was time to leave the party and meet with my Rho Chi. What was I going to do? I loved both groups! As I sat there in the cafeteria with my bid card, crying, I looked up towards the sorority halls and I saw something in a window that made my decision for me. I ranked the groups, signed my bid card, handed it in to my Rho Chi and went to bed.

I prayed that night that I’d receive a bid. While I had signed my bid card a certain way, I knew that I could find true happiness with either group, if they’d just let me in…

love, love, love this!

You didn't give us rankings after Pref Night?! Torture!!!

It sounds like you were truly torn and you'd be happy in either house. I'm still rooting for summer!

Sunday morning, I woke up and waited and waited and waited. I didn’t even go to church because I was so nervous. I kept waiting for my phone to ring and my Rho Chis to tell me that I hadn’t gotten a bid. Soon there was a knock on my door and it was one of my Rho Chis.

She handed me an envelope!

It was a bid!

It was to my first choice!

I screamed! I jumped up and down. I fiercely hugged my Rho Chi! She told me to go back into my room and that we could eat lunch during certain hours, and that I should wear some shorts and a plain top to meet with my Rho Chi group one last time and that I shouldn’t reveal what I had gotten just yet. I was so excited that I couldn’t eat or drink or even think straight!

We met as a Rho Chi group, and I saw that most of my group was there. It seemed all but 1 or 2 had received bids. Beth and Careen were there. I had not seen Beth the night before, but I had seen Careen at Summer, so I wasn’t sure what they had gotten, but I couldn’t wait to find out.

Then we went to sign the Pan-Hellenic book and get our Pan-Hel ribbons. Then we each got our sorority ribbons and I was SHOCKED to find out that both Beth and Careen were in the same group as me!

Finally, it was time to run out to my new sorority…my new sisters...

you didn't think I'd really tell you in this post did you? Cliffhangers are much more fun!

I'm curious, what did you see in the window that helped you make your decision?

lavendarlace 04-17-2009 12:47 AM

I love when I am a little late to a story so I don't die waiting for the reveal!

Congrats to you and Phi Mu!!!

Do we get a reveal? Maybe through PM?

Perhaps it was a quatrefoil shaped window?

Phi Mu is my favorite kind of ending to any recruitment story! :D
