I just hope that these two are sitting down somewhere, far from a camera, with a professional counselor. There are some real issues they both bring to that relationship that have been magnified because of their "fame" and the money that it has brought into the family.

Kate comes from a completely dysfunctional family and behaves not unlike an adult child of an alcoholic. Controlling as hell.
Jon comes off as immature and irresponsible. Just what someone like Kate needs - she can control him using putdowns.

This marriage is a train wreck, and when the cameras are turned off, there are still 8 little kids who need grown ups for parents.

The more I read about their lives before the kids and the show, the worse I feel for the little kids.

I completely agree! This is completely ridiculous!

I always say truth is stranger than fiction, because fiction has to make sense. That said, yeah, I'd be surprised if it were true. BUT my question - is all of this publicity actually going to be good for the program? Are more people going to watch, or will TLC decide it's no longer a viable program?

Think of it this way -- this channel has shows that promote pageant mom syndrome that exploits kids way worse than the Gosselin 8 are. They kept "Little People, Big World" on the air even when Papa Rolloff got busted for his DUI.

As long as there are viewers, TLC has no reason to pull the plug on the show. I think I've said it before, but my wife has been a big fan of the show, and all this stuff hasn't changed her mind on watching the new season. If she's representative of the "Jon and Kate" viewership, TLC really has nothing to worry about.

From what I've heard about the network, it's a lot less risk-averse than it used to be, back when they pulled Paige Davis off of "Trading Spaces" because of some bad publicity. There apparently were some changes in the network's leadership who put a lot more stock in the ratings; if a show is pulling in good ratings, they're far less likely to pull the plug.

I just want to cry when I think about how TLC used to stand for "The Learning Channel" and they showed James Burke documentaries. Now it's a bunch of garbage reality shows and makeover shows. Pathetic.

Do you think they will go on Dr. Phil?

I would think that they would be better off talking to a marriage counselor than talking to People Magazine. Seriously, you have 8 kids to consider. I'm not for the parents staying together if they are totally miserable and making the family miserable. But, if there is something to salvage, and you still do love each other, make it work.

I remember Kate saying they were not going to put Jon's scandal (either one of them) on air during their new season....but I heard on TV yesterday (ok, maybe it was on E! but whatever..lol) that TLC is trying to find a way to work in both Jon & Kate's scandal on the new season.

I really hope they don't, although I think with all that's going on, I think they should wait a while before starting a new season.

I don't know how long ago Kate interviewed with the 700 Club, but I saw the interview they had with her on Monday (i think) and she just looked so beat down, she had no life in her eyes. I feel so bad for her and for the family...whether the allegations are true or not (and i believe they are not).

SWTXBelle 05-13-2009 06:14 PM

New season is supposed to start the 25th.

nikki1920 05-13-2009 06:19 PM

they both need to turn off the cameras for a while and get their marriage issues worked out. Jon needs to get a backbone and Kate needs to learn how to talk TO and not AT her husband. Mady and Cara can come stay with me. :)

BabyPiNK_FL 05-13-2009 08:32 PM

^^^ Agreed. If you would rather talk to interviewers about your relationship than your husband, it's time to give up the ghost. Get off tv and do what is best for your children and stop making your lives into a spectacle. With the addition of more and more reality shows involving children with parents participating in/ making poor lifestyle choices it's getting more and more incredible. Do you really think you're kids in school will not hear about these things from their friends and feel bad, vulnerable, or embarassed?

Seeing as how their kids are 5 & 8 I doubt the kids really hear back from their friends about this, I think that Mady & Cara know enough of what's happening to not worry about getting it from their friends. I do hope everything gets straightened out with Jon and Kate.

nikki1920 05-13-2009 11:00 PM

I really do wish them the best. I hope they can work it out.
