I don't know how things work where you're from, but here on GC we try to stay away from trying to tell girls why they were dropped. Why? Because we weren't there. We aren't in any of the chapters and we didn't meet the girls during recruitment. We can speculate, but we can't say for sure, because we just don't know. |
Don't chew gum...if you need fresh breath make it a mint.

As an adviser, I made sure I had a stock pile of mints for the chapter. I drilled the no gum rule. First round of recruitment (first party), I have a PNM asking a sister where she can get rid of her gum. The sister has the panicked look on her face. I had to scramble to the back room to get my pocketbook to get a tissue for her to get rid of her gum. Yes, I gave the PNM a look of death. I nicknamed her "Gum Girl". She did not get a bid (and no it was not because of her gum chewing) |

If you didn't get a bid, please refrain from offering recruitment advice here on GC.
You are welcome to post anywhere else, but please don't offer recruitment advice to other PNMs. |

question
OK I have a question. During rush the members ask your questions, do you (rushees) ask them questions back. Like if they ask you how classes are going, where your from etc. do you ask them the question back?
|
also, is it required by most schools that you receive at least one bid?

NO. No one is guaranteed to receive a bid. |

I'm not sure if this thread would be the most appropriate place to put this, but since I don't really feel like starting a new thread...
Most PNMs get the hint when they first come here and are immediately told that DISCRETION IS KEY. Please let that be the same if you choose to document your experience in your blogs. I'm signed up for Google Alerts, so whenever "Alpha Gamma Delta" turns up somewhere on the interwebs, Google sends me an email containing a link to it. Now that rush is going on again, it's been turning up a lot. Some were pretty general, but some were just...WOW. Just be careful. If someone really wanted to ruin someone's rush, they can. By choosing to put info about yourself out there, it'd be easy for someone to figure out who you are. |

Be very careful what you put out there on the internet asking about sororities. Certain questions are pretty normal, like "What are Theta's colors?" That's no big deal. However, questions about reputations/rumors/etc are not a good idea to post on the internet. Example of an inappropriate question: "What's the reputation of Theta at ________ University? I heard they were ____________. Is that true? Because I only want to be in a sorority that is not ______!" Sorority members are all over the internet and you never know if a member from your school could see your silly question, figure out who posted it, and decide that they don't want you in their chapter. They could even tell their friends in other chapters. In general, before you post something (whether it's here on GC/on Facebook/MySpace/whatever), ask yourself if it's something you'd want a sorority member at your school to read. |
Don't forget to cover your mouth when you sneeze. When I was going through recruitment, the PNM next to me sneezed on one of the sorority members. If looks could kill!
