Right on about Sigmund! ;) There's a book which I think is called The History of Orgasm that is all about how vibrators came into use. (I can't find it on amazon.com but I got it out of the library). It's kind of academic, but it's funny at the same time. Removal of portions of or the entire clitoris is called female circumcision or female genital mutilation. It makes it very difficult if not impossible for women to have orgasms and is usually performed on pre-pubescent girls. FGM is primarily a social practice, not a religious one. Female genital mutilation predated Islam. It originated in Africa and remains today a mainly African cultural practice. Here is a link to a good article on FGM.

My question was more in terms of the physiology of orgasm. If you take the clittoris out of the equation, is it still possible to have orgasms . . .

That way we can analyze the whole g-spot orgasm vaginal orgasm issue easier.
