I always get sad whenever they show footage of the losing team's fans.

Sorry, Buckeyes.

Enjoy, everyone!

Script Ohio is a tradition for the Ohio State Band. My late father-in-law, an OSU graduate was telling me one year how the Ohio State band and the alumni band actually did four (4) script Ohio's simultaneously.

My comment to him was, "Did they all spell it correctly?"

But seriously, I like to see the band shows as well.

Now, about the game -- what total domination!

Florida was amazing!

So I wonder what Corso will say about his whole "the Big 10 is gonna hit the SEC in the mouth" thing.

About Saban, I think its a good hire for Bama, I guess. I mean I think he's a good coach, I also think he's an idiot for going there. UA is just an entirely different world where logic and reason flies out the window. I think he'll improve UA, but I'm not concerned. I think things will even out between UA and AU a bit more, but Tuberville has a winning record against Saban, so I'm not expecting Bama to retake the state. They'll probably get an edge instate on recruiting, but thats really not too big a deal, as Auburn recruits FL and GA as much as they do Alabama. I don't think Saban will be there long term, especially when he gets into the job a bit more. Jimbo turned down what would have been the largest coordinator contract ever to go to FSU, and rumor is that Saban is a little frustrated at not having his pick of assistants like he thought he would. Apparently everyone else already knew what he's finding out now.

I love it...at least when it happens to the Bucknuts...I cant stand them...havent been able to to since Carolina played in the the Outback Bowl a few years ago (forget whether it was the 2000 or 2001 game) and we had a little white RB from Ohio who had won the Mr. Football Award in Ohio his senior year. OSU said he was to small and slow to play for them...he came to USC and ended up starting in the Outback Bowl against OSU (because our other RB was an idiot)...he was almost single handedly beating them...having the best game of his career and near the end of the game a lot of the OSU players started taking cheap shots at him (I swear one guy was literally trying to rip his head off)...I lost all respect for the OSU program that day.

Congrats to the Gators...way to bring another championship back to the SEC

GO GATORS! I felt sorry for the little Buckeye fan. His teary little face broke my heart but seeing Chris Leak with the trophy cheered me right up. GEAUX SEC!

sdbeta1 01-09-2007 02:25 AM

Buckeyes seem to have a lot of bandwagoners. When they came to Iowa City this year half of them couldn't even say the chants correctly during tailgating. So rest assured, most of those little Buckeye fans were crying because they chose the wrong team. As for myself, I thought OSU -7 was a lock pick. Glad I didn't do anything foolish.

I am glad to see an SEC team win the title again. Maybe all this the SEC is overated crap will stop some.

Amen!

Now let's let ESPN and Co. spin this so they won't look like morons. They've been waiting to anoint OSU as champion since September, but Florida sure as heck had something to say about that. Go Gators and Go SEC!

I'll return to being a Gator Hater next week, but until then...

Hallelujah! :D

I had to stop screaming to avoid losing my voice. I was shook at the first TD on the first play, but I composed myself because I knew UF would pull it together whether quickly or with a hard fought drive. I'm so proud of the Gators, the first school to hold NCAA Championships in Basketball and Football in the same year. GO SEC!

I was impressed by Troy Smith's humility about the game. So impressed that I won't lay out the stats against him that impressed me more.

BTW, I'm in love with #30 for Florida. He represents what is so serious and tenacious about SEC football. This pic says it all. :D

2001 (my senior year) Outback Bowl. Ryan Brewer was the RB who replaced Derrick Watson.

I am happy the Gators won. SEC Teams were in 9 bowls and won at least six of them, including a BSC AND National Championship. If that don't shut nobody up, nothing will. There are just going to be a lot of haters there.

Hey USCTKE, what you think about Sidney (who is way better than overhyped Derrick anyway) going pro early?

TonyB06 01-09-2007 11:14 AM

Congratulations to the Gators. They played a better game last night and we could not handle their speed. The scoreboard showed us all that they were the better team.

To my Buckeyes:
Jimmy T. and the crew held it down all season, and did it with class, distinction and dignity. Heismann winner Troy Smith came a long away from extremely humble beginnings in Cleveland and "represents" in a fashion that goes far beyond football. Now, go on and do your thang on the next level.

Thanks for a great season,
BuckeyeNation

P.S. ....Michigan we still own you. :)

Last night was crazy here in Gainesville to celebrate. The streets were closed, couches (and Christmas trees) were pulled into the streets and lit on fire, fans swinging from light posts (despite being greased), people swimming in the fountains.... It's great to be a Florida Gator!!

I usually read USA Today and I was really upset and disappointed in their coverage (or lack thereof) of the gators victory. Why was there a huge article on the OSU coach but none on UF's? Why was the fact that USC will be #1 in next year's polls the cover story? So disappointing. I love how on the front it says: 5 pages of coverage, but only one article on our victory??

Simple Answer: Hate.

Who really wants to go on and on and on about how one team is gonna tear the other limb from limb because they don't stand a chance, and then have to turn right around and report how their predictions were wrong? I'm disappointed, too.

Um, do you get a different USA Today than we do in Dallas? I am counting 5 stories about the game and honoring the Gators:

"Gators Chomp Buckeyes"
"Improbables lift flawless Florida"
"Florida's freshmen are well-seasoned"
"Meyer's Gators win title with ease"
"Florida has spirited defense"

LaneSig 01-09-2007 12:07 PM

Also, I am a big Florida fan (even though I graduated from Arkansas State and Univ. of Memphis). My best friend graduated from Florida. We have season tickets and go to 3-4 games a year. We will be at the Auburn, Tennessee, and Florida State games this year.

I still dont quite know where I stand...I do wish him all the best in the NFL but Im honestly not sure that he is ready. I've heard some rumors that he family was really in need of money, if that is the case then its right for him to go, but I still dont like him saying all along that he was coming back only to jump ship after the bowl game. This could turn out to be a pretty good decision by SR if he has good workouts, but in a very deep WR draft it could turn out that he falls to the 2nd round. Sidney doesnt have a lot of speed for an NFL WR (he has good speed, which he has improved while at USC, but still not great speed for the NFL); he needs to get stronger and more physical; and he has to work on his hands, look at his clips from last year anything near him he brought down, fast forward to the Auburn game this season he goes up for three jump balls and doesnt come down with any of them, fast forward again to the Liberty Bowl against Houston again two jump balls that he did not come down with...at 6'4 with his jumping ability he is going to have to come down with those balls if he hopes to become a superstar in the NFL.

As far as how our football team will be without him, we will move on. Kenny McKinley really stepped up this season and should put up great numbers next season. Guys like Moe Brown, Jared Cook, Freddie Brown, and Mike West (catch the damn ball) are going to have to step up and I believe they will. Plus Spurrier has a pretty good class of WR coming onto campus in the fall (look for either Jason Barnes or Joseph Hills, both 6'4, to likely replace Sidney as more of a posession type of reciever; and add to that guys like Larry Freeman and hopefully Chris Culliver and Deon Lecorn and we should be set at WR for the next 4 years)

ZTAngel 01-09-2007 03:03 PM

Go Gators! They played a great game last night! Plus, their win makes me feel better about UCF's appalling loss to them back in September. :)

I agree. With $aban's 2-3 record against Tubberville and his questionable credibility... that can only help out Auburn. I do not believe $aban will be able to hurt LSU with in-state (Louisiana) recruiting because his creditability is shot. No way he will be able to have his "pick of the litter" in Alabama like he had here. He's a great college coach, no doubt, but LSU had all the pieces, he just had to put them together. I'm not convinced that it will be as easy for him to do that at Bama.
I don't keep up with alabama recruiting, but I would assume that most guys either grow up an Auburn fan or a Bama fan. I really don't think either school has to do a lot of convincing and you probably couldn't sway their opinion the other way, anyhow. Is that correct?

I can't freaking wait for the Bama game. I went to Tus, Alabama in 2005 when we played them last there (and won in OT :D ) It was a great trip, I really enjoyed the Bama fans. I can't wait to see what it will be like now!
Go Gators! :D

shinerbock 01-09-2007 09:25 PM

You're right, there usually is some preference. Sometimes they still go other places, but its hard to be neutral in AL. The thing about alabama recruiting is that usually Auburn is not gonna steal a kid from Bama. If a kid really wants to go there, he'll go. I don't think Saban will be able to overcome LSU's pull on instate kids, although I'm sure it'll be better than what they've had lately. It'll be interesting to see if Saban is satisfied with just getting a lot of the in state talent, or if he'll get more into FL and GA recruiting like Tuberville has. I'm sure UA will improve over the next couple of years, but I think Bama is gonna pay for it on the back end. I don't see this as a move which brings Bama back to its stature of previous decades.

DeltAlum 01-09-2007 10:09 PM

One of the play-by-play guys we use in our Mountain West Network is James Bates, who was a line backer on the last Florida team to win a national championship (I think he was one of the captains).

Great guy.

He was on top of the world today and happy to show all of us his championship ring.

Smith made Jason White in the USC-OU debacle (at least that's what it was on my end of things) back in '05 look like a future NFL Hall of Famer by comparison.

I agree. I'm afraid a lot of Bama fans are seeing Saban as a savior. They are paying their coaches so much $$$, I wonder if their players are having to take a pay cut. :p
