Earlier posted in the OAPH FaceBook Group asking if folks wanted to meet after work for drinks or tapas. About 2 people out of 85 expressed interest in meeting, we might have to send out a press gang to recruit attendees :D
|
Okay. I decided not to hire a press gang. Instead area NPC Alumnae are invited to:
Tuesday Tapas and Beverages October 22 at 5:30pm Boure in Oxford, Mississippi Social Event, no business. Dutch treat. (If your Dutch please don't be offended) I'm from the Delta. When in doubt throw a party! NB: I am not an OAP officer, just a party liking person. |
Ole Miss FR 2014
MP - when y'all meet, I would love it if y'all could discuss how as local alumnae you could encourage Ole Miss NPC to consider going back to recruitment in August before school starts. Having been there the past 2 years as a parent, it is crazy to make these PNM's and, more importantly, the members do this during the school year! Or at least not have it so close to mid-terms. I would also be disappointed if they schedule it for the Texas A&M weekend. THANKS!

Nothing like getting phone calls in the middle of the night from a hysterical, sick, crying, stressed out daughter! August, August, we want August!!!!! Where do i sign the petition? |
Circulate Petition to move Recruitment back to August, check. Believe me ladies your preaching to the choir!
|
I could see them doing a compromise where they do the first part before school starts and the final 2 rounds the first weekend. There aren't football games that early in the year, right? But with all those girls at the first 2 rounds, the number of parties that have to happen and the still very small number of chapters there, pushing it back for at least the first 2 rounds seems much more civil. It seems schools that went to the split schedule have higher return rates than before they went that way. Ole Miss already has excellent placement rates, so maybe it would just get some girls happier with their choices because they'll have a little time to think about it?
|
No one has said that she is coming to this tomorrow afternoon. Rather than sit alone in the upstairs bar and have Ole Miss fraternity men think I'm a cougar trawling for a cub, I prefer to attend my daughter's soccer practice. But having invited you all, I can't abandon you if you would favor me with an affirmative RSVP. After noon tomorrow, I'll be planning on wearing my running shoes and hoodie if I'm not advised that you are coming. MP

Very late response
Having experienced OM rush with my only girl (3 sons, 2 are graduated) all I can say is it was seriously intense for both the girls in sororities and the PNMs. All the girls from our hometown got their top choices - maybe a couple got 2nd choice. However, we're from a big MS town so they had a big advantage, I suppose. I am really glad I went (with major hesitation) and was there when my daughter made it to her new house full of sisters. Haven't seen her chapter's list in DM - have only seen KD DG Theta and AOPi. If anyone has links to the rest, please share! I was another sorority at AL but am glad my daughter loves her new class. I've heard 121 are in it. I was told this weekend that quota was 100 and they added on 18+ per house. I don't know if that's right, but it's what some girls we knew that were on the other side of rush have said. I love that OM places as many as possible. Anyway, thanks so much GC ladies, you helped me survive 2 frat rushes and 1 sorority rush. One more to go.....
|
Quota was 117, and all groups made quota.
ADPi pledged 309 with their initial colony class. A very healthy sorority membership environment exists at Ole Miss. Congratulations to everyone involved! |
Phi Mu NM list
YEAH! Better late than never, Phi Mu's new member list at Ole Miss published in The Daily Mississippian, page 4 .

I thought I would post today's article from hottytoddy.com both here and on the Alabama Minorities greekchat page since it's been discussed in both places:

My heartfelt thanks - and that of every Alpha Delta Pi, I'm sure! - for the massive Panhellenic outpouring of support from all around! |
If you're near Oxford, make plans to see Ole Miss Theatre's production of Hairspray at the Ford Center today at 2 and 7:30 or tomorrow at 2. The show is very well done and many of the actors/actresses are Greek!
Nice way to spend a Saturday since the Rebels have a bye this week. Enjoy! |
Giants have a bye week too? We were eating dinner in a local restaurant, and then Eli Manning, his family and some friends and were seated at the next table.

I did catch Hairspray's performance with my Theta and future theta (her little sister). Excellent!

My DD was in Hairspray and we thoroughly enjoyed the show. There's certainly a lot of talent at Ole Miss!
She had rehearsals during recruitment week and that's what caused her to miss half the houses during philanthropy round. But she loves theatre and worked with her gamma chi and everything worked out. Glad you enjoyed it olemissmom2017. I know there were several Thetas in the show, along with a few KDs, and probably others that I'm not aware of. The music, dancing and costumes -- including wigs -- were great! My mom and I were cracking up at the jokes though that were lost on many of the college kids around us....Like references to S&H green stamps, Debbie Reynolds/Eddie Fisher, "Midol Moment", Allen Funt and Candid Camera. All in all it was a great show!! |
And thus a new year begins . . . 2014
