Congratulations, Violet! I think a friend of mine works in a similar field and she absolutely loves it. Best of luck to you!

Just submitted my last application! Eeek!

I hate the waiting game...

KSUViolet06 12-12-2010 08:06 PM

EEK and YAY.

What field of study?

Maybe you'll get lucky and won't have to play the waiting game as long? Mine was relatively short (5 weeks!)

Gusteau 12-12-2010 10:42 PM

Higher Education and Student Affairs.

I could potentially hear back from two by the end of January, but one wasn't due until March 1st, so unless they make rolling descisions I probably won't hear for a while. Like you, I'm checking my application status daily, lol. Congrats!

I am LITERALLY fresh off of the graduation ceremony stage! LOL...I'd like to attend grad school for an MBA, but (I feel like I can be honest), I'm a little scared to take the GRE. So many people say it's so hard.

Don't get me wrong, that won't discourage me from doing it anyway, but I would really like to get a satisfying score! Any tips on how to "study"?? How often should I study and how long before I take the test should I start?

Gusteau 12-21-2010 11:04 PM

Study as much as you can in whatever way you can. Seriously. I didn't prepare as much as I should have and my scores reflected that, to be frank. I did well enough, but my GRE definitely won't be making me stand out.

If you think the class is going to work for you, do it. If you're more self-motivated I think getting a study book would be just as good.

As an aside - and I'll admit I don't know much about this - don't you have to work for a few years before you can get your MBA?

After years of procrastinating (and life, and raising a child and working FT), I have FINALLY applied to a graduate program for my Master's in Mental Health Counseling at Trinity University in DC. I still have to turn in my transcripts (will be ordered on Friday), recs and resume (by next friday), but I have cleared the biggest hurdle (for me). Wish me luck.

Only a few weeks ago, I finally made the decision between Law School and grad school for Political Theory. Goodbye LSAT, hello GRE and the crapshoot that is grad school admissions.

Today, I contacted financial aid. I'm about to see what the damage is for this upcoming fall. Uggghhh pray for me!

I'm so excited to be coming back to school! I've been waiting since age 5 to start my doctorate. I can't believe it's finally here. :)

KSUViolet06 04-28-2011 12:03 AM

^^^^ Crossing fingers for low damages!

A little financial aid rant of my own:

I applied for 4 scholarships. The app deadline for the university = March 1.

It is now April 27th. I'm tired of waiting. Hopefully the long wait = I got something.

I DID get a nice-sized grant, though. I'm halfway funded. Just waiting to see how much more I'm going to get.

I'm particularly nervous about a scholarship I applied for via a local school system. In addition to a large amount of money, it gives the recipient preferential hiring with the district upon graduation. WANT.
