I was never a member of either of those organizations. I had friends who were and they rarely talked about it, nor do I recall them participating in a ton of events/projects/etc. I think if you're into being involved in student orgs and want to continue that into law school then go for it. One piece of advice I received from an attorney who does recruiting for my old firm was that if you're in bunch of organizations in law school, they know you're just doing it to pad your resume. It's not going to effect your job prospects unless you are super involved and even then.....actual work experience is the most important thing. The time would be better spent volunteering at a legal clinic or something equally related to your long term career goals. Hope that helps.

One of the schools to which I have applied has been super about sending out regular updates, like a bi-weekly enewsletter to prospective students. It is definitely helping keep their school top-of-mind... I know my application is "under review" with them... I wish my status would change from "prospective" to "admitted!" Everytime I see an email from them, my heart skips a beat!

I do see how that would be a bit of torture though while you're waiting for an answer. |
As much as it kills me to say, the University of Alabama was by far the best at updating me on acceptance stuff. They sent me at least one email a week, and let me know quickly when I was accepted. Its a pretty exciting time, and a huge relief when you get into your first choice.

They didn't need to know all I had were rejections. ;) |
Great idea... I am on the fence for many schools I have applied to. I'm excited about my first acceptance from back in Dec., but I'm just looking forward to having a big picture.
Hmm... Is April 1 too early for that phone call? Also, if I got deferred from ED to RD at one of my schools, a super reach, and I haven't been invited to submit anything further, should I just sit and wait or do you think it would merit a love letter to their admissions office? I'm inclined to wait and see what happens... I don't want to be too much of a pest, but I'd give my eyeteeth for an acceptance! |
Not to hold out on them or anything, but waiting till the last minute before making deposits got me 2 scholarships I'm not sure I would have gotten if I sent it in as soon as I was accepted. I don't think that would work for most places, but several friends and myself did the same stuff, I think it pressures your prime instate school to try and keep you from leaving the state.

And shinerbock, my boyfriend played the same game with scholarships back in the dark ages when he went to law school - he ended up going instate with a full ride. |
Regarding the move from EA to RD... I still have the same contact info, and I'm not sure what else to send other than a letter? Any ideas? I applied in Sept, got deferred in November to RD. The first RD acceptances are starting to go out, per LSN, and no one from the deferred list has yet been accepted, as far as I've seen. I don't want to be a pest.

Thanks everyone! I have a few things cooking, and I'll send an updated resume and letter of interest in Feb to the school. Thanks for your help!

don't go to law, you make more money in finance.

Thanks, moe.ron. ;)
To the current law students out there, would anyone be willing (via PM) to read a draft of the updated letter I want to send? Thanks! |
