.

You haven't read much from me, but yet you make the observation that I can't have a rational conversation to save my life?

LMAO

Yes, because most of what I've seen is just like the above. And ending anything with "LMAO" nose-dives your credibility immediately.

So people disagree with you? Ok, so what? If you haven't noticed, people disagree ALL THE TIME in the News forum. But none of us are making dissertations about our subconscious inferiority complexes.

LOL.

I need to come over to News and Politics more often.

No, these things have not happened in just this thread, but in many other threads.

With respect to your comment about disagreements... it's not about disagreeing. I don't think anyone on here has an issue with a simple disagreement on a particular point of view. It's a bigger issue than that.

deepimpact...

I’m not trying to be mean right now, just honest... I think your problem is that a lot of times, you say one thing, and when people react to it (sometimes, according to you, misinterpreting what you’re saying) you jump down their throats. Examples can be found here:

http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=101690

And here:

http://greekchat.com/gcforums/showthread.php?t=102223

You say that there is a mob mentality, which I don’t quite understand. You turned people off in the very first thread you posted in, and you’ve continued to do so since then. If the same few people were constantly on you and attempting to insult you, then I would understand this “mob mentality” you speak of. But even from looking at the threads I posted here as examples, there are many people (excluding the ones in this thread) who have disagreed with you, and who you get snarky with.

It doesn’t become a debate with you, it becomes post after post of “I don’t care what you think. You misunderstood me, and that’s your problem.” And that’s going to create issues no matter what message board you post in.

I feel like I just fast forwarded through the slow part of a movie. Can someone recap what DS was hollering about?

I'm sure you've been in a classroom or work environment where someone makes a statement, and that statement elicits a number of dissenting opinions. Would you classify that as a "mob mentality?"

No one is saying you need to back down from your opinions - what they're saying is, if you're going to include yourself in a debate over the issues, then you have to expect that people may not like or agree with your opinions.

That may be the source of the issue, because it seems like your posts are doing the exact same thing - some of your posts bring the message "if I agree with you, great, if I don't agree with you, then you're not worth the effort."

When I reference mob mentality, I am not just talking about this thread. Don't be daft. It's more than mere disagreement on a point of view. You know that.

I fully expect people not to like my opinions at times. However, as I mentioned, the same group of people finds some way to make absurd, unnecessary comments in response to mine that really are not just intelligent disagreements.

As for the comment about someone not being worth the effort... as usual you have misread my statements. My point about someone not being worth the effort is in response to information about the fact that people directed their sigs at me. Behavior like that ISN'T worth ANY kind of effort because it's stupid. Some members on here accuse ME of not being able to handle a simple disagreement in opinion, but yet they disagree with me about something and change their sigs JUST to make jabs? So yes, apparently someone IS taking something THAT seriously. Based on that it doesn't seem like I'M the one with the problem.

The longer we keep extending the recession by using tax payer money, the worse the real bottom is going to be.

What are we really afraid of? Losing the so-called American Dream?

It's really hard to shrink social services again once an "entitlement" has been created. (An entitlement is one of those things that always seems to be in the eye of the beholder.)

But my take on real estate sometimes approaches what you've said here. Yeah, it will suck to owe more on my moderate mortgage than my house my be worth when the market can't absorb the foreclosures without dropping prices. And yet, the idea of subsidizing mortgages for the people who got loans they couldn't afford so they can avoid foreclosure kind of make me fell like a sucker. Why are the folks who bought homes they could afford paying either way?

I suppose I should just be glad that my husband and I are employed and can pay.

It is the same people over and over.

So what if someone disagrees with me about something in my first thread? Be an adult and GET OVER IT. I have the ability to disagree with someone in one thread about something and then express agreement with them over another issue in a different thread.

If I get snarky, it is because someone else initiated the snarkiness and I respond in kind. Don't even try to act like people don't get snarky with me first. People around here seem to pride themselves on snarkiness and if someone complains about it they tell them to get over it. Those same people should take their own advice.

As far as misunderstandings, the fact is these people you speak of don't know how to accept it when they are wrong. Instead of simply admitting that they misread something I wrote, they continuously work to make it seem as if what I said wasn't clear. I can think of maybe one instance where my statement could have been interpreted in more than one way. All other times what I said was crystal clear.

UGAalum94 02-19-2009 04:15 PM

I know that I've often been the jerk in threads and I've engaged in many arguments not worth having, but I have to say I'm amazed at the amount of attention that you all are willing to give to Deepimpact2.

While I think DS will get fired up and irrational at times (to the point when I wonder if it's simply alcohol inspired lack of inhibition), he also brings levity and sincerity to threads, not to mention posting the topics to a ton of threads.

But I haven't been able to tell what Deepimpact brings and yet people always engage.

:D

I ended with LMAO because what you said was amusing to me.

If ending something with LMAO nose-dives credibility, then a majority of the people around here have none.

Whoa I never noticed that I'm a sister-in-law at all, actually. To be an Alpha Gam sister-in-law is pretty neat.

I guess I should mention that my brother met his wife while visiting me at school. And that she and I lived in the house together, then lived off campus with my sister-mother.

Oh and that she was my big sister for the honors program, LOL.
