That's almost impossible, though. I know of cases where the mother was physically abusive AND was in recovery for a drug problem and they still didn't take her kids.

The courts are just really reticent to split up families, especially when it means taking on a new ward of the state.

What would be more likely to happen is the appeals process & everything would drag on forever, and the kids would be in foster care all that time, and by the time Mom finally gave up or there was a solid decision made the kids would be too old to be easily adopted.

She's in California, so the laws are different than they are in Texas, but your last paragraph is essentially correct. The process would drag on forever and the children would remain in foster care (provided they had been removed in the first place and not voluntarily placed by the mother with relatives or friends) while the case was pending. Add to it the fact that there's a sperm donor too, here, so until it's clearly established, in court, that he has waived all rights to the children, all hearings will be conducted as though he does have parental rights. It's all very, very complicated.

If she ever does something that causes the state of California- or whatever state she's living in at the time- to remove those children from her, she will be in for a very rude awakening about the government systems that've been helping her so far.

Edit: I'll throw in fifty bucks for the Meanie t-shirt fund!

They should take the kids away and stop giving her government assistance. Who cares if they are physically separated? It won't kill them. It's not like people spend all their lives living with their siblings anyway. They won't suffer any irreparable damage from having to live away from a sibling as long as they are getting food and shelter.

If they don't take the kids away they should still stop giving her government assistance. Make her figure out how to support herself and her kids.

And I hope no citizens will actually contribute to her Paypal account. I hope no companies are stupid enough to give her free products.

She needs to ride this one out on her own.

Now she might be losing her house.

According to documents filed earlier this month, OctoGrandma (who owns the house) hasn't made any payments on her home since May, 2008 -- she's behind $23,224.98.

HotDamnImAPhiMu 02-18-2009 11:11 PM

No effing kidding. I always assumed a mortgage was like having the rent in - and I would be SO evicted if I went 60 days without coughing up rent.

texas*princess 02-18-2009 11:23 PM

So I'm watching Dr. Phil (yea, it's been a slow Wednesday night) and Nadya's (or whatever her name is) PR lady is on there.. she is trying to divert the conversation to "yea people make bad decisions, but we need to come together and help these babies"

I'm assuming she is saying we should donate more money (since she's getting taxpayer money already) to her.... or that "we" should help them by donating a big badass house to house 14 kids.. or a minivan or something.

Eff that.

We do not need to give more money to this looney! These babies need to be helped by giving them to loving homes that are not headed by crazy people!

p.s. I'm down for a meanie t-shirt as well :) I'll take a size M.

That's so sad. Think about all the benefits that you receive by having access to biological family (emotional benefits aside, consider the medical benefits!). I'm not saying that this outweighs all other considerations in every case, but it DOES matter, and absolutely those kids will care if they are separated, and they should care.

Update: The house is now in foreclosure

I hate to say it, but this is just another reason I think CPS needs to step in. These kids belong to a woman who is obviously mentally unstable. She can barely provide for her kids, and her mother is in her 70s so it's not like she can either. She is in way over her head and I don't think this is going to be a positive situation in the end for those poor kids.

How the hell are you able to consider a million dollar home if your house is in Foreclosure?
