Goodness. Where did you hear any of these?

When I was an undergraduate a had a very close friend who was a Theta Phi Alpha. She told me that while Mrs Kennedy and HSH Princess Grace were not undergrad initiates they were honoraries like JFK was an honorary Phi Kappa Theta. Might that be the origin of this urban legend?

We don't do honorary initiates. The closest thing we have would be our Siena Medalists, but they do not go through any kind of initiation ceremony.

It is amazing to hear and see all the 'urban legend-ary members' of GLOs across the country. More to dispel, Cybil Shepherd is not a Chi Omega, and Princess Grace is not a Delta Delta Delta,….Panhell love….

Oh look, from 2003 in this very thread

And from the same year and this very same thread, too!

Delta Burke is definitely not a Chi O. I've also seen a lot of chapter websites claiming Cybil Sheppard and Shelly Long? Never seen any proof of that from Nationals...

But thanks for repeating what has already been said. Panhell love!

That hook made me cringe! Lol!

She was invited as a guest to the party and ended up leaving with a members' date. How this got morphed into Lauren being a member of Chi O, I have NO idea.

Heather Locklear: She pledged Chi Omega and is pictured in the Bruin yearbook in the Chi O group photo that year. Heather deactivated. A year later, she pledged Tri Delta. Never initiated and left school when her acting/modeling career started to take off.

Zeta rumor: I had always heard that the wife of the founder of Hallmark cards was a Zeta Tau Alpha, as the logo for the company is a 5-point crown (like ZTA's symbol). But haven't seen any evidence to this. Can any ZTA's verify?

Now, I do know that a beer was created for a Chi Omega. The former CMO of Iron City Beer (located in Pittsburgh) created Iron City Light for his wife, a Chi Omega alumna. (I'm friends with the daughter and verified the story at her wedding.) Now that's love!

So IowaHawkeye and Jenny McCarthy went to the same high school?

This explains a lot.

Got some new ones for you!

Malcolm Jenkins, Safety for the Philadelphia Eagles, is an Omega Psi Phi. I've even seen the Omega brand on his arm.
Terrence Jenkins, former co-host for E! News, is also an Omega.
(One day, I'll ask Malcolm if he's related to Terrence.)

Newly announced Miss Golden Globe 2017, Sophia Stallone (Sylvester Stallone's daughter), is a Delta Gamma (sophomore) at USC (SoCal). https://www.yahoo.com/celebrity/sylv...020500338.html

Olympic Figure Skater Polina Edmonds is a Delta Gamma at Santa Clara, Fall 2016 recruitment class.

The wife of the founder of Hallmark is not a ZTA

Can't remember if I posted once upon a time when this thread of new (no working brain cells left in my head). When I was in school in the dark ages we were were told

1. Betty Crocker was a KD (seems a lot groups claim her)
2) Former First Lady Pat Nixon. I was surprised when I went to convention a few months after her death that she wasn't mentioned during the memorial service. Finally dawned on me-- URBAN LEGEND
3) Sophia Loren supposedly went to my school, pledged Alpha Phi and was asked to de-pledge due to morals. Never saw her name on any alumni list for the school

clemsongirl 11-20-2016 03:21 PM

Proof that these go very far back:

I'm currently doing a history paper on the early history of sororities at William & Mary, and in the 1949 and 1950 Greek Guides Dinah Shore is listed as an alum of Tri-Delta. I recognized her name from Adam Sandler's Hanukkah Song (talk about dating myself here) and thought it was interesting that they had a Jewish alum, so I did some searching and it turns out she was a well-known member of Alpha Epsilon Phi at Vanderbilt. Just goes to show that you can't always trust historical records either!

honeychile 11-21-2016 09:43 PM

I think some of the urban legends started when So and So pledge XYZ, but never initiated. Two women I can think of off the top of my head are Farrah Fawcett (pledged Tri Delta, never initiated) and Michelle Pfeiffer (pledged ADPi, never initiated).

My own theory of so many GLOs claiming Betty Crocker is how many different models there were for Betty. Either that, or every sorority in the 1940s-1950s were hot to claim her!
