There's a great article with spoilers for next season and the rest of this season in this week's Entertainment Weekly.

If you're a fan, I encourage the read.

BTW, how many of you know that Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer (Bill) are dating IRL? They've apparently been together since the pilot episode.

Maenad from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maenad

"In Greek mythology, maenads were the female followers of Dionysus..."

Maenadic practices: the Bacchanalia

Cultic rites associated with worship of the Greek god of wine, Bacchus (or Dionysus), allegedly characterized by maniacal dancing to the sound of loud music and crashing cymbals, in which the revelers, called Bacchantes, whirled, screamed, became drunk and incited one another to greater and greater ecstasy. The goal was to achieve a state of enthusiasm in which the celebrants’ souls were temporarily freed from their earthly bodies and were able to commune with Bacchus/Dionysus and gain a glimpse of and a preparation for what they would someday experience in eternity after their resurrection. The rite climaxed in a performance of frenzied feats of strength and madness, such as uprooting trees, tearing a bull (the symbol of Dionysus) apart with their bare hands, an act called sparagmos, and eating its flesh raw, an act called omophagia. This latter rite was a sacrament akin to communion in which the participants assumed the strength and character of the god by symbolically eating the raw flesh and drinking the blood of his symbolic incarnation. Having symbolically eaten his body and drunk his blood, the celebrants believed they became possessed by Dionysus. The main shrines where these rites took place were at Delphi and Eleusis.

Is that was Circe was?

Proverbs31 07-26-2009 07:21 PM

Well I bought and watched season 1, and caught up with the current season with On Demand and I am officially hooked! I can't wait 'til tonight's episode.

VandalSquirrel 08-09-2009 09:51 PM

OMG this show gets crazier each week.

I am almost ready to NOT cancel my cable when my contract is up this month. Maybe I can trade my neighbors baby sitting for HBO if they have it.

ETA: I would laugh hysterically if any of the Light of Day leadership were made into vampires.

Proverbs31 08-09-2009 10:01 PM

Another great episode!

They should have destroyed FOTS when they had the chance.

I really hope Godric survived the blast.

ZetaGirl22 08-09-2009 11:04 PM

I dont know if any of them will survive it, including the humans. Bill and Lorena are outside when it happens right? Im guessing they go in after and save Jason and Sookie with their blood. I REALLY hope Eric and Godric dont get killed tho, I like them :)

Proverbs31 08-09-2009 11:12 PM

Bill and Lorena were outside. But what sucks is that Jason was standing right there when the bomb exploded. I would hope the writers wouldn't kill him off the show.

Yea, Eric has really grown on me during the last 2 episodes. I can't wait to see what may or may not happen b/w him and Sookie. (Though I do love Bill with Sookie.)

RBL 08-10-2009 02:05 PM

how funny was the preacher last night..

Jason and Sookie really had some good lines last night

WinniBug 08-10-2009 10:27 PM

We don't have HBO, so I haven't seen the show, but I am working my way though the books....has anyone else read any of them? I've heard them describes as "Twilight with sex". lol

I just finished Dead Until Dark, and I'm about 50 pages into Living Dead in Dallas. They're pretty good so far and much better than the Twilight series IMO.

AOII_LB93 08-11-2009 01:05 PM

I also just finished Dead until Dark. It was literally like watching the show...the first few chapters were just like the first few episodes.

I have read all nine which is a feat for me b/c I hate to read. I was so addicted that I read all of them in 4 weeks, can't wait till #10 comes out. I also watch the show. I like them both even though they are different. I have not read Twilight yet.

PenguinTrax 08-20-2009 11:23 PM

i started reading the books years ago. I like them - and the show is pretty good.

AOII_LB93 08-21-2009 12:06 PM

Dude, I'm so in on the Eric/Sookie thing, Eric is hot. Bill is just kind of meh to me.
Sad about Godric, but saw it coming (helps that I've read all the books except #9).
Jason is funny, I'm still cracking up about last week's episode and the paintball to the forehead.

ETA: I'm also loving Jessica, she is good!

ETA2: Just looked up Eric on IMDB - he was in Generation Kill, I didn't even recognize him. He was also in Zoolander. :)

RBL 08-24-2009 02:49 PM

The actors on True Blood were hitting on all cylinders last night.. the supporting cast is fantastic.. this show is GREAT

Quala67 08-24-2009 03:31 PM

The episode was TOO SHORT!! I know that HBO wants to promo their stuff, but to only get :46 min out of the episode, when the others run at least 5 min longer was CHEATING us. I was not amused.

AGDee 08-26-2009 12:43 PM

Personally, I'm getting tired of the Marianne (Mary Ann, however she spells it) storyline. Jason as God was absolutely hilarious though. I haven't decided whether they will resolve the Marianne thing this season or use it in a cliff hanger for next, since there are only two episodes left this season.

AOII_LB93 08-31-2009 12:02 PM

So, the Queen? What do we think? I like how they are taking inspiration from the books but not necessarily remaining totally faithful. Jason was cracking me up this episode. He's gotten some good lines recently. Damn, Lafayette...really?

Eric is still hot.

DiamondAthena 09-01-2009 10:51 AM

Love the queen, Can't believe they got Lafayette, but most importantly.... WTF is in that egg?!! I was horrified  and my husband said frm the time Eggs and Tara hooked up that Mary Ann was "breeding black ppl" I was  until now I mean what in holy hell batman!

AOII_LB93 09-01-2009 12:05 PM

Yeah, I don't know what's with the egg either, that's a total plot divergence from the book and in all of the books there was never anything to do with a big egg.

Then again in the books Tara wasn't a. as present and b. wasn't Black.

Proverbs31 09-01-2009 12:32 PM

Who do you all think will be the sacrifice? Maybe Sam or Lafayette? I really don't want them to kill off any of the characters but I think it may be Sam.

aggieAXO 09-01-2009 02:01 PM

I doubt they will kill Sam off. As far as the queen goes-i was annoyed with her. I just wanted to shake her to get her to tell Bill what he needed to know so he could leave. I thought she was overdramatic. Eric as always looked yummy even in that hideous shirt/skirt. Two weeks without TB will be hard but I just bought season 1 so will rewatch these to get by.

AOII_LB93 09-01-2009 02:09 PM

Well again, if we're going by the books somewhat, it won't be Sam...but I don't think it will be Lafayette either as the Queen said it needed to be someone supernatural. I don't know where they're taking this one.

Maybe the telepath Sookie met in Texas will be the sacrifice?

Doubtful, telepaths aren't supernatural. They're talking about werewolves, shapeshifters, etc... I have a feeling it will somehow involve Sam, but he won't actually die, however Bill will cause it thus pissing off Sookie and sending her to sexy boy aka Eric.

aggieAXO 09-04-2009 05:12 PM

I just watched most of season 1 last night. I will always prefer Sookie with Bill. I really hope they don't change that (though I do love me some Eric).

AOII_LB93 09-05-2009 10:45 AM

All you Bill lovers, I used to like him...until I read the books. That's all I'm saying. If you want to know more, PM me, I won't post any spoilers.

I haven't read the books, but I did some wikipedia-ing. I think they put some subtle hints in the show.

Would you recommend reading the books?

Part of what makes True Blood seem kind of terrible at times, I think, it trying to deal with the kind of campy narration of the books. In my opinion the horrible southern accents and what will occasionally come off as terrible and inconsistent acting, might be attempts to deal with the kind of Sweet Potato Queens narrative style in the books.

But I have such limited experience with the books that I don't want to miss a good thing if they are one.

aggieAXO 09-05-2009 07:34 PM

I have read all the books but for the show I like for Bill to be with Sookie.

I loved the books as well (and I really hate to read anything other than medical or financial journals/books).

AOII_LB93 09-06-2009 04:56 PM

If you like a quick campy read, sure, go for it. Wal-mart had the whole series on sale for like $27 a couple of days ago online. I enjoyed them.

tootiepie 09-06-2009 05:29 PM

I just finished reading the 4th book. I enjoy the books more than the seires. The show is just a little to graphic for me.

aggieAXO 09-06-2009 10:39 PM

The only part I had to fast forward through when re-watching the first season was when the woman that removes the demon from Tara's mom drowned the opossum. I do opossum rescue and that just enraged me. BTW they don't make noises like that (they don't scream). plus I don't like the dead opossum in the opening credits but I just close my eyes when that part comes on. Otherwise I am use to goriness (if that is a word:).

AGDee 09-13-2009 10:21 PM

Wow, just Wow. I can't say anything more until the West coast sees it, but WOW!

Proverbs31 09-13-2009 10:29 PM

That was an awesome finale with a VERY unexpected ending. But I'll have to re-watch it when it re-airs since my neighbor got locked out of her apartment and knocked on my door right in the middle of the episode!

aggieAXO 09-13-2009 11:13 PM

ehhh, I was a bit disappointed. But I can't wait till season 3.
