While we are waiting for results, I was wondering how the colonists are structured. Are they considered as one pledge class? Do they have different year numbers based on year in school? Are they even considered a pledge class, or a charter class (or re-charter class)?

I assume you mean membership numbers, and I'm guessing how those are assigned is a secret part of ritual. |
I actually meant Pledge Class of 2012, 2011, 2009, etc. Or do they number the pledge classes that way?
|
What is panhellenic total/limitation at Alabama and what is average chapter size?
My prediction is they will take over total. |

OK, thanks KSUViolet...total is 180, we think.
I just looked back at that long Bama thread. I saw a quote from Aphigal that said: Quote:
We'll see. I wish Alpha Phi much good luck. |

My daughter said that bids will be given out tomorrow and girls from other houses will be there to give them as much of the 'Bid Day at Alabama' as they can. They can't imitate the Squeal Run but they can give them a very festive atmosphere. I think it is amazing how all of the sororities have welcomed Alpha Phi. I think it says alot about the girls at Alabama, but I would imagine it is like that at other universities. I have never seen a colonization. My school did not have one colonize while I was there so I have been fascinated by the process at Alabama.
|
Are there any details (such as time, etc.) about bid day?
|
That is also what I was wondering---at what time willbids go out?

Alabama now has a greek newsletter that they send to both greek members at the school but also to their parents. Here is a link to it. www.greeklife.ua.edu/Scroll11.html
The newsletter says that Bid Day is at 5:00pm and that they are hoping to bid 200 girls. That is so exciting!! |
Generally speaking, at a colonization the idea is to take average campus size. So, say total is 180, but most groups run around 250 or even 265...then they'll shoot for around, say, 260.
There are bound to be some women who wind up turning down their bids...some who don't actually accept the bid immediately...some who accept the bid and drop after a couple of weeks...with that number, there are always some variations. I believe the women will probably be given a deadline by which to accept or decline a bid. They may even pick up a few more after Friday, to get to average chapter size. That's just generally the case...YMMV.;) |

I guess I think we can have both. Given the number of women Aphi interviews 400+, and saw at parties 400++ if we pledge close to total it still means we accepted aproximately 50% of the women who rushed Aphi. That is both quantity and quality. I do not know how many bids will be extended...but I am excited to see pictures!!:D Now onto bid day and the next question who will live in the house??? |
I just heard that one of my former students is now an Alpha Phi at Alabama! :) I'm sure that all of their new members are as wonderful as she is!!
|
so, I guess i can post now!! Tonight was pref night and at the end of our party, they all told us that they were extending bids to all of the girls there (roughly 100)!!! We got the actually paper and tomorrow they are doing the whole thing at the stadium. I am so thankful that this turned out so great and i can't wait to start everything!!!!!!!!!!
