Ah! I misread her quote, I imagined she came home to "their" apartment one day and she found all of her stuff down with the doorman. I get it now. She's an idiot for still being with him.

Bumping!

Almost done!

TAR is supposed to start in 30 minutes but the football game is still on, THEN 60 Minutes is on. This is infuriating every single week.

ETA: I spent some time watching the videos from the Elimination Station in Acapulco. Looks pretty cushy! I would now like to be on the race and get kicked out first :)

SWTXBelle 11-30-2008 11:26 PM

Sooooo sad at losing our mom/son team. Fraternity brothers have grown on me - goofy, but somewhat endearing. It's the separating couple I want to NOT win - either of the two others would be okay.

AGDee 12-01-2008 06:58 AM

I'm rooting for Nick and Starr at this point. I was also sad to see Toni and Dallas eliminated. I don't remember seeing Phil go to a team to tell them that they were eliminated. I guess he figured they'd had a bad enough day, why continue to put them through it? They had a passport issue to deal with too, during business hours.

I have mixed feelings about Ken and Tina. They rub me the wrong way but they have helped others several times too. I'm really on the fence about them.

I don't see the fraternity boys being together enough to pull it off in the end, but you never know!

ComradesTrue 12-01-2008 08:38 AM

^^^ I do remember Phil going to the contestants at least one time. Due to flight issues (I think...) there was one team that wound up a full day behind everyone else. If memory serves me correctly it was the final 3 and they were in Alaska. There was no point in having that team do the challenges when the other teams had already crossed the finish line.

I am sure others can correct me on this if my memory is fuzzy.

Yes, it was season 1 with Team Guido. They had to spend the night someplace in Alaska and when they got up in the morning, there was something in the clue box that told them that the race was over, but Phil was not there to personally tell them.

He went out one night to tell two girls that they had been eliminated. The girls were suppose to unroll bales of hay to find the clue. They did it for over 8 hours and never had any success, so Phil saved them the hassle of continuing with the search.

Yeah, he's done it at least a few times when the team in last place was so far behind that there was just no need to make them keep going.

I was really sorry to see Toni and Dallas Philiminated -- I really liked them. I still don't care for DAndrew, but they did race well last night and they have made quite a comeback. I'll be content as long as Nick and Starr come in first and Ken and Tina come in third.

jitterbug13 12-01-2008 05:23 PM

I would also like to see Nick and Starr win. I was sad and nearly in tears with Toni and Dallas.

My mom kept saying that Tina is such a grouch. :p

a.e.B.O.T. 12-02-2008 11:35 PM

I REALLY don't want Nick and Starr to win, at all!!! I think they are far too cocky and I don't like it, so don't even get me started on Tina... I am rooting for DANdrew, even though the likelihood of them wining is slim... Toni and Dallas seemed like good and fun so I was kind of rooting for them... oh well, just not Nick and Star and Tina... lmao, rgggg

I. Just. Can't. They've raced terribly -- wit the exception of the non-elimination leg and the most recent leg, they've only survived because someone else always races worse (or has bad luck) in a given leg, but without a doubt, they have been consistently the worst team. I can't bear to see them win.

srmom 12-03-2008 04:03 PM

I was really sad to see Toni/Dallas lose too, they had such a great attitude, and it was so neat to see how close they were and how much they love and support each other. Great mom and son relationship!!

Read their interview with Reality News Online and you'll like them even more. They're great.

A few highlights:
  • They were only 30 minutes to an hour behind Ken and Tina when Phil came to them to put them out of their misery.
  • The taxi driver turned Dallas's passport in to the US Embassy that night. They had it back by noon the next day, but the flight for the last leg had left around 9:00, so they would have been way behind if they hadn't been eliminated.
  • Dallas and Starr have been dating for about six months now.

nittanyalum 12-06-2008 02:08 AM

Ok, well, just to buck the trend, I'll root for Ken and Tina so all the teams are covered. ;)

Seriously, though, if the "frat boys" win a mil, I'm done with this show.

Who would run Team GC with MC if that was the case? ;)

LOL, ok, ok, you both got me, I typed it in the heat of the moment, thinking of those two shlubs walking away with a million dollars. In the light of day, I can see where their winning might actually inspire me more to get on there with MC and walk all over the competition. So have no fear, MC, your pardner's still on board! I haven't stopped doing my hurdle stretches or trying new, weird foods! I'll be ready when our number's called!!!

Great start, but how is your "taxi-lingo ability" in any number of foreign languages? Did you notice how Sarah seemed to be able to converse with every single cab driver this year? I never ceased to be amazed at her multi-lingual abilities, and it helped them get ahead on a couple of occasions.

smiley21 12-06-2008 11:33 PM

A few nights ago, I had a dream that Nick and Starr already won. I got really confused the next day when I saw the commercial for the season finale. I thought it already happened. :)

a.e.B.O.T. 12-07-2008 12:28 AM

It is not that Dandrew are my pick... I just don't want to pick the other two teams... I really liked that online dating couple and Toni and Dallas... and have always HATED Nick, Star and Tina... so, I am rooting for DANdrew, but for the same reason I voted for Kerry in 04, lack of better options...

ComradesTrue 12-07-2008 10:28 AM

I find all three remaining teams completely unlikeable. However, since Starr sported a TCU cap for one episode this season I will pull for them.

...and as much as I hate to admit it, they have run a very good race.

Ooo, great point, Blondie. *makes note to buy multiple language packages from Rosetta Stone...*

SWTXBelle 12-07-2008 10:12 PM

Yeah! I am so happy!

GPhiBLtColonel 12-08-2008 05:58 AM

Dang! I am bummed that Nick & Starr won - never liked them from the get-go:cool:

AGDee 12-08-2008 06:28 AM

I was happy for Nick and Starr. I didn't see Dallas and Toni at the finish line?? Do you think losing their passports caused them to not be able to fly home in time?

That is what I surmised.

Per MC's recent post, they were able to get their passport back the next day, but it would not have been in time to make the flight that the rest of the teams took to Portland. So even if they had come in third on the prior leg, there was no way they could have won the million.

Therefore, I am assuming they were on a later flight back to the US and did not make it to the location before the other teams did. Bummer.

What Blondie said. They got Dallas's passport back, but clearly not in time for them to get to Portland for the finish.

Actually, that's probably not the most efficient way to deal with it, except for something like Spanish, which would help anywhere in the Western Hemisphere except Brazil or a few other places. I think what a lot of teams have done is get to the airport and buy a phrase book for the language of whatever country they are heading to next. It gives them something to study on the flight.

By the way, NA, what languages do you speak (or, if you are like me, used to speak and with a little refresher could still muddle through)? I wonder what we've got covered so far -- French and German for me.

And I was so glad to see Nick and Starr win. But I'm already missing the race. :(

AGDee 12-08-2008 02:05 PM

There is always a let down with the last episode. Your adrenalin is going, you're rooting for your favorites, then all of a sudden they win and POOF. It's over. And it won't be back for a long time. Over. It's bittersweet.

Agreed.

I haven't seen a brother and sister that close since Cruel Intentions. What was with all the hugging, kissing, and butt slapping?

Did y'all know that Dallas and Starr are still dating and have been for the last 6 months? I read it on a blog!!

Who woulda thought that Amazing Race romance would last???

LOL srmom, it's only been 6 months. Haha. I'm sure Starr will somehow get on his nerves.

I can't help but think of Danielle and Eric (winner of TAR All Stars). Weren't they together for a while before All-Stars? They eventually won the million and broke up.

That's why my family was pulling for them... Starr did in fact attend TCU up until recently. Well, within the last year or two I think...

srmom 12-09-2008 10:41 AM

Hey, 6 months is an eternity when you are 20! They live on opposite coasts - it's alot easier to stay on someone's good side when you only meet up once or twice a month for romantic weekends;) It's the daily grind (haha, that sounds bad) that wears down a relationship...

I hope that in the short time they've been dating, Starr has been able to get him to brush down his ridiculous "Sonic the Hedgehog" hair-do :)

Psst . . . it's also in post #52 in this thread. :p;)

And I don't know that they're on opposite coasts. In one of the episodes, Starr or Nick or Dallas mentioned that their families only live about 30 miles from each other.

My favorite new factoid is that Starr and Nick's last name is Spangler. That's right, her name is Starr Spangler.

srmom 12-09-2008 04:19 PM

Woops! I must have missed that.

Psssht. Wimps. That's the easy way out. I'm a quick study, don't worry. ;)

Spanish, Italian, a little German (but I'll happy cede that to you :)), and I have a pretty good foundation in Latin.

I actually missed the show and haven't had time to search the 'net for a streaming repeat -- so who came in second and third?

srmom 12-11-2008 03:32 PM

2nd Ken and Tina, 3rd the frat boys
