No, it doesn't, at least not legibly without some effort -- not if you use whitesmoke instead of just white:

Of course, nobody should be quoting spoilers anyway -- there's no need.

I guess my eyes are the bomb because I can read both of those colors without highlighting.:D Maybe it's good that she didn't post it? lol

One thing though is I started reading the books in 2004, right after OotP came out in paperback. So movies, 1-3 were already out, so to me its kind of like "I know that things are going to be taken out".

Oh I know they completely changed it. I guess Ron is actually "trying" out in this movie, when we all know that happened in OotP but they completely took Quidditch out in that book.

I remember very little of the book. I read the books to my 3rd grade class last year and honestly, we skipped book 6 (this was mainly due to lack of time and I wanted to complete the series prior to school ending). The only chapter I read to them was the death one (just so they knew who died and who "killed" them). The death and the horcruxes are really all I remember in book 6 and I barely remember about the horcruxes (yeah that was fun trying to explain to my students ;)).

"Okay class...first, you kill someone to rip the soul in half...then again...as many times as you wish but be careful. Then, you stuff them into little trinkets and hide them all over the world. Not so hard! Who wants to try?" :p

I have purchased tickets for 12:01 am on July 14th at a brand new theater that just opened by my house. I will be taking my two kids and two of their friends. This theater has assigned seating so we already have our seats and won't have to wait in line for hours to get good seats. Yay!

ETA: and yes, I have to work the next morning... my first day back from a vacation too. I may have to ask for a couple hours off that morning.

CutiePie2000 07-02-2009 08:39 PM

I read these books so long ago, I can't even remember who the Half-Blood Prince is.

tangelo212 07-02-2009 08:46 PM

I. Can't. Wait.

I never read the books when the series started/they first came out. I remember thinking that I was a little old for them, and for some reason my mom had the impression that they were intended for kids who didn't like to read, to get them to read. Or something.

After seeing the last movie and being completely lost, I decided to catch up with the series before the HBP comes out so I know what's going on. I'm currently on HBP (which also makes it feel risky that I'm reading this thread), my mom's on Order of the Phoenix, and my dad's only on Azkaban. My parents are obsessed too. It's a big family affair now. My mom and I actually had two bookmarks in OotP and fought over who would read it when.

Since it really ruins nothing of the plot of the movie or the book (impo), the Half-Blood Prince is Snape.

Other than that, the horcruxes, Draco's task, defense against the dark arts teacher, I don't remember most of the book.

Also, I don't recall Quidditch being played in this book at all, but yet there are supposed to be scenes in the movie. Didn't Ron become a member of the team in book 5 (although it wasn't shown).

jojapeach 07-03-2009 07:34 PM

^^^ I've only read HBP & DH, but I just read HBP for the second time last month, and there was definitely a quidditch match. Actually more than one because Ron played, then got sick or injured and was substituted by another player that got on the whole team's nerves. Plus, Harry got a lot more time to see Ginny.

I'm so looking forward to the movie. I'll try to take any interested nieces and nephews, and there has to be one.

This is the book in which Harry becomes the Quidditch captain.

nikki1920 07-06-2009 03:18 PM

Im so excited!!!

ASUADPi 07-07-2009 12:51 AM

Next week! Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!

My coworker and I were talking about the movie today. We are both super excited. She hopes that the movie isn't "dark" like the other ones have been, but considering the plot of HBP, I don't think that will happen.

Can't wait to see it!

I just finished reading the book tonight, and I think that this is absolutely the "darkest" one yet. The magic is more practical and serious, and less whimsical and "cute" than before (if that makes sense?).

It's depressing, too. I actually shed a few tears over this one.

Nevertheless, still can't wait!!

polarpi 07-07-2009 11:50 PM

Just bought my (5.50 + 1.00 convenience fee) tickets for Wednesday afternoon - bringing my mom along, since A1) she's in town and B2) haven't really found someone else to go with here in my "new" area. If it came out over the weekend I'd drive down to go see it with my step-sister (whom I saw the very first movie with - what can I say, it was a bonding experience :D)

Getting super excited! :)

Pike/PhiDeltmom 07-14-2009 05:47 PM

I am very excited to attend the 12:01am showing later tonight with my son and his girlfriend. I just heard on the news that the lines are wrapping around our local multi-plex theaters and it's not even 6:00pm.

The people at this theater are whacked and I'm surprised nobody here pointed it out... Yes, my ticket confirmation says Tue, Jul 14 12:01 am, which was LAST night. I had requested time off for this morning, to go to work at noon. Thankfully, my daughter said something to me yesterday and I called the theater. "Yes, that's Tuesday night" and my boss was kind enough to switch my time off to tomorrow. MORONS! Tue, Jul 14 at 12:01 am is NOT Tuesday night to Wednesday. But their website says it is. I kind of wonder how many showed up last night. The movie is Wed, July 15 at 12:01 am. Sheesh. So glad my daughter caught it in time. I'm supposed to be taking a nap, but can't get sleepy.

DaemonSeid 07-14-2009 10:22 PM

Just saw it today

So far...my favorite summer movie

SPOILERS TO FOLLOW...DO NOT READ IF YOU DONT WANT TO KNOW And DO NOT QUOTE THIS BECAUSE THE SPOILERS WILL SHOW UP!!!!!

Pacing focused more on the love lives of Potter and Jenny and Ron and Hermoine

If I remember from the book, there was a deeper explanation of why Snape was the 1/2 Blood Prince as well as some memories with Snape being teased by James that did not appear in the movie.

No revelation as to who exactly the Prince was (if you have read the book you know what I mean)

There was no big wizard battle at the end, nor was there a big funeral for Dumbledore and I was kinda disappointed with that.

Otherwise while there a very dark element to this movie, there was a lot of funny moments.

Scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 6 (Edited after a convo with MysticCat in PM and after my brother saw it who just re-read the book, my score lowers)

AGDee 07-15-2009 03:16 AM

Loved it but haven't read the book in a long long time so I don't know what was missing... need sleep.

TPA85 07-15-2009 04:13 AM

Just got back from the midnight showing....First thing I did was try to find people's reactions from it because I was not entirely impressed [especially for having to wait SOOOOO long] but I'm also overly cynical sometimes.

I was very disappointed that some things were changed un-necessarily. I get that some things HAVE to be changed for the sake of fitting everything in to a film and making it flow but I think David Yates went a little far with this one.

I'm just going to go ahead and keep my fingers crossed from now until the time Deathly Hallows I and II come out, hoping that I leave the theaters more fulfilled than I did tonight.

txpacer 07-15-2009 04:21 AM

I loved it! While I wish that some things had not been changed or omitted, I still thought that it was the best midnight movie I have seen.

Only downside...back to work in 5.5 hours. :(

lovespink88 07-15-2009 09:42 AM

Okay, slight hijack from the current movie, but still Harry Potter related.

I JUST started reading the books this summer. I'm on 4, but I probably won't finish the series till next summer, cause I'm just too busy during the school year to read books for fun.

In addition to the books, I've seen 1 & 2 of the movies. I saw 1 a while ago, thought it was pretty good, but I just saw 2, and thought it was pretty crappy. I mean, I was expecting the books to be better anyways, since books tend to be better than the movie version, but I just had a question...do the movies get better? Like, if you had to put them in order of your favorites, what would they be?

When I saw the first movie last year without having read any of the books, I liked it. So when I started reading the books and LOVED them, I was so excited for the movies. But when I saw 2, I was really disappointed. I just want to know if I have something to look forward too.

SydneyK 07-15-2009 10:20 AM

^^^ I haven't seen HP & the HBP yet, so I can comment only on the first five movies. Of the five, the second and the third were my least favorite. I didn't like the director's interpretation of Prisoner of Azkaban at all, so I think I liked the third movie even less than the second. ETA: If I had to put the movies in order, my order would be 1,5,4,2,3.

Having said that, however, I haven't liked any of the movies nearly as much as I liked the books. But I think that's normal.

Pike/PhiDeltmom 07-15-2009 11:49 AM

I am a huge Harry Potter fan and attended the 12:01am showing. For now I just have a couple of comments.
Spoiler Alert:

I was very dissapointed with the movie. How could several of the most important and exciting parts of the book be left out? And, once again, the director altered scenes and dialogue for no reason. Were there some great parts of the movie. Absolutley. It's a fantastic book. I give the movie a "C+" which is too bad. It could have been one of the best movies ever.

Here's my personal ranking of the movies:
5
3
6
1
4
2

DaffyKD 07-15-2009 02:34 PM

I liked the first 2 since Christopher Columbus said his kids would kill him if he changed the story. I hated the 5th one. They left out a lot of important material, it was boring and even my son who can never find anything wrong with HP walked out of the theater upset. I have not seen the 6th one yet, but I don't have a lot of hope for it. The more something gets hyped, the worse the movies is in my personal and not so humble opinion.

jennyj87 07-15-2009 02:43 PM

**SPOLIER****

I"m sad that they left out many of the subplots. and they didn't even explain the "half blood prince" meaning. My roommate was like "what the HELL is going on?". Seriously, if you haven't read the books its very hard to follow.
AND WAHT THE HELL WAS WITH THE BURROW THING!?!? SERIOSULY? I COULD HTINK OF A MILLION THINGS TO PUT IN THAT PART INSTEAD.

*ends rant*...
Okay. I'm good.

DaemonSeid 07-15-2009 03:04 PM

Pleasepleaseplease put a spoiler alert before you post on new movie releases.

Thanks

Ever since the first one -- maybe the second -- plot points that are very important in the book have been left out of the movies. The first book is 309 pages long, Book 2 a little longer. Book 4 is 735 pages long, and it's not the longest of the books. It just gets impossible to put everything in.

That said, sometimes I'm baffled why some things that could get easily mentioned are left out.

And yes . . . spoiler alerts are a must in this thread.

DaemonSeid 07-15-2009 05:06 PM

This has been a bad summer for movies but you wouldn't know from the money made in the box office.

Transformers 2 was probably the worst out of all the big movies this summer and probably made the most money.

Okay. I'm good.

I totally agree! They threw in so much stuff that was not even mentioned in the book and left TONS of amazing parts out! I was actually the most disappointed in this movie than I have been for any of the others before it!

But...there's still the 2-part 7th book movies to look forward to! I'm optimistic they will be better!
