And thank you mom for not calling her "D"! ;)

Thank you so much OTW! I've decided I'm going to need a lot of support the 2nd week of August, and hopefully I can find some here.

No, I'd never call her "D" :p

She is not attending my alma mater, but is going to a smaller SEC school. There isn't a chapter of my sorority, but I have had family members who went to college there and were all Greek. She knows a few people going to school there, but absolutely no one in any sorority, so I think I am more nervous than she is. If I get my courage up, I'll be happy to write a thread and keep everyone updated. Please wish "us" luck!

A "smaller" SEC school, huh?! Is there such a thing? LOL Just kidding -- You hang in there and please do give us all the details. We love to live vicariously through you (and her!).

SWTXBelle 06-24-2008 08:02 PM

I'm writing a rec for my big sister's niece (and no, Jill, I don't expect you to include her in your list!) but I may pop in and let you know how it goes - she's rushing at Texas A & M.

Yeah well, it IS kind of an oxymoron, but I couldn't think of any other way to describe it because it is smaller than the SEC schools in my state. It's actually about the size of my alma mater when I was there 100's of years ago :p

And....I was thinking last night...it might be interesting to chronicle the other 3 girls she knows going through rush with her. All of them are from out of state as well, but 2 of them have some contacts already in place. All four are very different, so I'll be curious to see how everyone ends up.

This is probably like the smartest "potential new member" to ever post here.

ETA: I'll avoid getting e-raped over the term rushee.

Update...

Ok so I already mentioned that I was going through recruitment but I wantedto post an update. This week at FIU we had a Greek BBQ where you get to meet them and I went. All of the women were really nice and I had even seen some of them earlier in the week at this concert that TKE had that was really fun. After meeting them and getting to know them better I'm really glad I decided to go through recruitment. :D

OMGreek25 07-15-2008 01:56 AM

For the past three days I've been lurking this site to death trying to find out as much information as possible about rushing and some of the sororities. It's been so helpful and really opened my eyes to a lot of other sorority possibilities. I've fallen in love with certain sororities based off the way you girls talk about them; they all seem fantastic! Way to represent your letters ladies because even through a website you're really making a lasting impression. I will be rushing at NAU this fall semester (I'm paying the application fee as I type!) and I'm hoping my experience will be as great as some of yours from the recruitment forum! I'm going in with an open mind, but have several top choices, if you want to know feel free to send me a message! Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated!

UAwildcat12 07-16-2008 09:46 PM

I'm rushing at University of Arizona (Fall 2008) :)

FSUnolegirl! 07-16-2008 11:53 PM

i, too, am going through recruitment at fsu in the fall!

i am so excited, i can't hardly wait ; )

BBelleADPi 07-17-2008 11:42 AM

I've written a rec for a girl going to University of Georgia. She's a direct legacy of three different sororities (grandmother, mother, sister) and her aunt is a member of another sorority. She's got the whole package, bu we all know how the legacy thing can bite you in the butt, especially at the larger schools. I'm sure I won't get updates, but I'll post when it's over if she got a bid, and where.

DDDlady 07-17-2008 09:49 PM

Good luck to all the girls and especially to those going through in the SEC. Just enjoy the experience!

basket96 07-17-2008 10:39 PM

To all the potential new sisters going through recruitment, there is so much great advice here on GC, please take it to heart. I hope each of you is able to go through with an open mind and an open heart and find your true "home". You will know, if you read many posts, that so many of us found our home where we least expected it! That's the great part about having an open mind. Believe me, 25 years later, I know I am where I was meant to be (although during the first 2 days of my recruitment, I never would have thought so!) Boy, am I glad I kept my options open and followed my instincts!

Good luck to all and please keep us posted!

Bluebonnet Mom 07-27-2008 07:10 PM

My daughter will be going through recruitment next month at a large Texas university as an incoming freshman. I found this site several months ago and it has been a tremendous help; the recruitment threads have been especially entertaining. I intend to post my daughter's story as well - just haven't decided if I will do so during or after recruitment.

Benzgirl 07-27-2008 08:28 PM

To all of those who will post a recruitment thread,

Please remember to be discrete. Often, from the clues and descriptions you give many of us can figure out the college or university (that's not all bad). With that in mind, it's not a good idea to bash any chapter or use rude terms or generalities that could do you harm.

We love your stories, so continue to post them. When naming the thread, try to avoid, "My Fall 2008 Recruitment Thread". Those of us who are addicts of recruitment threads do read them (ok, some of us stay up all night reading them), but they are hard to keep straight if we have a dozen of the same name. Be creative.

Some of the better names recently, were:
"20something's BRUTALLY HONEST Retro Recruitment Thread",
"Chuck Norris's Recruitment Story" (who could forget!), or
"Blondie's Retro Rush Story at Southern Private University"
Those were very easy to keep straight.

And moms....post them too! We have a lot of mothers that keep us updated or write post mortem recruitment stories that are wonderful.

Good luck to everyone who is going through recruitment this year. They start in just a couple of weeks!

lets.love 07-28-2008 01:46 AM

I am rushing at my college of choice.:)
Wish me luck..good luck to all of you who are rushing also..hope for the best!

Audreylove, you might want to make note of some of the posts cautioning PNMs to protect their identity on GC -- that includes signatures too. :)

Discretion is your friend

Audreylove 07-29-2008 01:32 PM

I'm going through recruitment at a school in Texas as a sophomore. I'm a little nervous since I seem to be at a bit of a disadvantage, but overall I'm VERY excited. I found GC yesterday and have been spending waaayyy too much time on here in the past 48 hours! Everyone here seems so helpful and nice :) Good luck to everyone else who's rushing!
