Thanks so much for your information about Wichita State that was exactly the kind of information I was looking for

By the way to a previous poster, I am fully aware belle is spelled with an e I just made a mistake while getting my user name. Posts can be better used for offering people help instead of criticizing them.

Bell, no e, you may want to start taking your own advice.

KU Rush

Hey everyone!
I was just wondering if anyone could tell me more about KU Rush. Do you walk to all the houses (thinking about my footwear for the week, haha)? Are recomendations super important? I only possibly MAYBE have one for ADPi. I'm the first in my family (close and extended) to ever go greek, so I really have no clue about ANY of it and don't really know any current/past members. Any advice, anecdotes, gems of wisdom you all have would be very helpful!

Thanks!

Read sarahsmilehawk's recruitment thread. She is a member of a sorority at KU and rushed just last year.

Thanks, I'll check it out! ^_^

At KU, there will be buses available to take prospective members around during Recruitment. The sorority houses are kind of in clusters, so there still is a fair amount of walking involved. I wouldn't suggest trying to do it in heels or any other uncomfortable shoe. Maybe you could wear a pair of comfy flip flops between events and then put on your fancy shoes for the actual event?

Recs are not required, but it is a nice way for the chapters to learn a little bit more about you. I was from out of state, and when I went through Recruitment at KU, I think that I had recommendations for a 5 or 6 of the 13 sororities. I am also the first in my family to be Greek!

Ask around, and I think that you would be surprised to find that you know more sorority alumnae than you think. Also, Alumnae Panhellenic associations are a great way to connect with sorority women. Greater Kansas City has a wonderful alumnae association....check them out here: http://www.kcpanhel.com/

The sororities at KU are fantastic, and there are so many opportunities to get involved.

Best of luck and Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

This is what I recommend. I clearly remember seeing huge piles of flip flops outside the houses as the rounds continued and things got more formal.

I just heard KU has more girls going through recruitment than expected. My guess is that this will make recruitment a little more competitive than before, at least in the sense that it will be tougher for PNMs to stand out from the crowd.

osheatunes 07-22-2008 02:57 PM

lol, I think KU in general is having more freshmen then expected this year; I heard that there is even going to be temporary housing for the people who were late on Res Hall Contracts b/c they're already so full o.0

I'm so glad I asked about all this stuff...it's helped ALOT. Now I'll be able to go into recruitment feeling much more confident about what to do during the week.

Thanks so much everyone! : )

I called Greek affairs at both KU and K-State today. KU anticipates about 860 girls for recruitment and K-State about 635. It's not 1500+ like at Alabama , but it's a big year for us!!

sarahsmilehawk 08-16-2008 02:04 AM

Recruitment starts tomorrow at KU!

Last I heard, there are 904 girls going through. There were about 600 last year.

ztafromuk 08-16-2008 06:24 PM

TWO DAYS between pref and bid day? That's just mean to the PNMs.

The strong and determined will survive!:)

Underway!

Kansas State's first open house parties should be underway right about. . . now!! I talked to my daughter (late) last night--her first year on the "inside"--and they are pumped, ready, and excited!!

KU starts its first invitational rounds today--Philanthropy day.

Good luck to all!:)

It must be a trend in the Big XII schools. I talked to my coworker who's daughter is going through Recruitment at Iowa State and she said they have almost 500 PNMs going through there. That is a *HUGE* jump; I think last year the number was closer to 300-350. They had to add on extra parties to the days to help accommodate the increase in PNMs.

K-State Recruitment over!

K-State had prefs yesterday and handed out bids last night. My daughter emailed, and hopefully she was coherent at 2:30 AM when she wrote it!! She was thrilled to announce that the K-State Thetas pledged 47 awesome new members!! :) She was so excited (and exhausted!) I don't know what quota was, but last year it was 41 so this is pretty huge! Or as my daughter said, "Isn't that a crazy ton?" (Back in my day, I had a big pledge class at 28! The years after me were 23 and 25.)

azureblue 08-22-2008 09:54 AM

Quota at Kansas State was 47. Alpha Delta Pi has 48 new Alphas!

nwADPi 08-28-2008 12:33 AM

I'm a little late, but one of my best friends got her bid from ADPi at k-state!!! She was extreamly excited (being a sophomre).

Congrats to all the chapters at K-state!

Update October 4, 2008: U of Kansas (KU) List of NPC New Members Fall 2008

The KU press release (looks like the initial sort offered is by Kansas counties and other states; this is what they're offering, folks, I'm just passing the info along):

http://www.news.ku.edu/2008/october/3/sorority08.shtml

Edited to add: It might be just the way it's displaying for me, but -- fair warning -- in a few places I checked names were occasionally duplicated. Yes, I don't know why.

wildcatfan 10-06-2008 01:31 PM

Using exlurker's link, I added up the following tallies for KU recruitment. I took out the duplicate names (hopefully I caught them all), but my total still adds up to 638 despite the article saying that 611 pledged. Also, the numbers I got for ADPi and SigKap were 3 and 4 higher than reported on irishpipes' thread. I'm not going to recount, but if someone wants to check go ahead!:)

FWIW:

Kappa Delta: 55
Delta Delta Delta: 55
Kappa Alpha Theta: 57
Pi Beta Phi: 55
Kappa Kappa Gamma: 54
Alpha Gamma Delta: 29
Sigma Kappa: 56
Chi Omega: 52
Sigma Delta Tau: 22
Alpha Delta Pi: 46
Delta Gamma: 55
Gamma Phi Beta: 51
Alpha Chi Omega: 51

ETA: OK, so I did recount (twice) with these changes: Kappa Alpha Theta 54, Kappa Kappa Gamma 56, Alpha Delta Pi 47, Delta Gamma 54, Gamma Phi Beta 54. It was confusing sometimes as girls that evidently had divorced/separated parents were sometimes listed twice, once under each parent.

sarahsmilehawk 10-09-2008 02:03 PM

Quota was 51 at KU. 46 sounds about right for ADPi, but I can't remember because we COR'd up to 51.

57 seems a lot, even with quota plus, but I really don't know how many girls Theta took this year.
