I joined through COB, so I've only seen Alpha Phi's pref. But we never use name tags. Do many other chapters use name tags during pref?
|
Cute, Lucy! And I love the fleur-de-lis name tags! We can only wear the UF-produced white rectangle nametags that we are issued through panhellenic.

It was 1971, and everybody was into "doing their own thing," so we wore (long) formal gowns, any style, any color. It was nice because each girl could chose the outfit that best suited her......but it gave the chapter no unity.
Next year, we had the same sky blue fabric, but each person chose her own dress pattern. Now THAT was a big success! A few years later, as advisor for a chapter, I made a couple of dresses for girls out of a dusty blue polyester fabric (hey, it was THE fabric of the '70s!). Same pattern for everybody...they turned out beautifully. All I've seen lately is black. It's probably about time for a change! |

I seem to recall a Sigma Kappa chapter wearing lavender for pref. It was in an issue of the Triangle sometime around when I pledged, which was Spring 2004.

Typically Alpha Gam wears red dresses but my chapter decided a few years ago just to start wearing black because trying to get 60 girls to find nice dress that were the actual color of RED just wasn't working.

Black conservativeish dress, black shoes, pearls

We all wore black dresses and black shoes with black tights. They may do something diff now. That was 10 years ago.

All of the sororities on campus had matching gowns that were worn during pref and Greek Sing slow song.
Our gowns had a black velvet scoop neck with 3/4 sleeves top with red satin T-length with bow in the back. We wore black nylons and black pumps. I think ours were the prettiest. The other two sororities I preffed had 1. kelly green gowns and 2. banana yellow with a ruffle that went down and across the front if I remember correctly. Think coca cabana. |
At GWU, DG chapter wore black with a fun piece of flair - ie hot shoes, hot bling, etc. It was classy and yet still festive. We also made nice looking name tags that didn't clash or look tacky.

^^^Aw! We dress like that too! This year they're going to try white I believe...we'll see how that works out.

several zeta chapters have formal nametags which appear to have a brass plate mounted on a slightly larger black plate. the nametag has the crest engraved on it on the left side and the girls name -first and last name on the same line to the right of the crest. they are probably 2 inches long and 1 inch h. very classy looking.
that chapter i advise makes their own nametags and they follow the theme of the party. my own chapter did the same back in the day. i believe that we wore nametags for pref. in the shape of our badge. |

my chapter does the little black dress with black heels, no shoulders can show, so most of us wear cardigans.
one chapter on my campus wears white and goes barefoot, and the other is black with one girl in green and one in red. pref was always a crazy night, as all 3 of us used the same room, and there was only 30 minutes between parties, so you would have 20 minutes to set up and 10 to clean up, so there was some overlap in the room while getting ready. |

We're supposed to wear black dresses with gold jewelry to match our pins.
This is a picture of the sophomores from this year I'm the one in the front leaning down with brown hair and the silver sash. http://photos-457.ll.facebook.com/ph...44434_3439.jpg |

We all wore name tags for pref, but they were hand-made (just like our name tags for all other recruitment rounds). We also made name tags for our PNMs. White with silver edging and green calligraphy for the PNMs; black with silver edging and silver calligraphy for the actives; same for the alums with the addition of the word "alumna". For actives and alumnae, the name tag went on the right side, the badge on the left. Back in the day, I did the calligraphy. If I never see a blank tag again, it'll be too soon. :p |
we're wearing pink this year and our dresses are being made for us so we all match in the same shade.
