The most popular crab in the Pac NW is Dungeness Crab, which is off of the Pac NW/Canadian/Alaskan coast, so we're lucky (although I don't like crab).

Sig Hansen is the grand marshal of this year's Seafair Torchlight Parade in Seattle.

The Hillstrands, the Harris boys on the Cornelia Marie...even Edgar and Sig on the Northwestern. But you're right, when you compare the Hillstrands to the other families, they just don't yell at each other too much.

It was neat to see that one After the Catch episode and the captains talked about what they do when they're not fishing. Andy raising horses didn't seem too out there as Phil and his building bird feeders!

Andy's farm is somewhere outside of Evansville, Indiana and I guess he has become a minor celebrity when he is around. My father-in-law, who never gets excited for anything, claims to have seen him at Tractor Supply (or maybe it was Farm & Fleet) and was almost giddy retelling the story.http://www.hobbyhorseacres.net/home/
Here's the link to his horse farm. I want to have my birthday party there!

i agree. up until then, i had the song there's a hole in the bucket going through my head.

The bf made me watch this one year during Thanksgiving when they had a marathon. We then decided that, from then on, every year at Turkey day, we would order a pound of Opelio crab legs, and have a moment of silence for those who were lost in the Bering Sea. :) I LOVE this show.

Don't know if they have em online, but I imagine Discovery will run them pretty often. There were 4 After the Catch episodes.

I'm sure someone here: http://www.deadliest-catch-wiki.discovery.com/ might know.

Sig was at the opening of the Bass Pro Shop in Rancho Cucamonga out here either last year or the year before that. I can't quite remember. From what I have heard from a friend who attended, the place was mobbed and he had lines of folks wanting autographs.

i walked into a book store the other day and saw several books out either by or about the people in show.
i think i heard something about a reality show being done involving all the shows done by the production company. getting regular people to do what is done in the shows. anyone else hear about this? i think it may be showing on nbc.

OMG, I wish I had known -- I am only about 30 minutes from there. My husband would have waited all day to see Sig. That's his favorite captain! What a bummer to have missed it!

I'm still kicking myself over not going but at the time, I was not a fan of the show and I had no desire to go there. Now I want to beat myself over the head for missing out such a great chance. I'm only about 20 miles from there. Damn! Sig is Mike's favorite captain too.

Did you guys catch last night's Season Premiere? The boys are back!

Yay King Crab Season! I know they've had other boats on before, but is this the first time they've just had the 4 main boats? I can't remember.

Poor Phil just can't catch a break.

I think last season they covered just the four main boats, too.

I'm worried about Phil. :(

BetteDavisEyes 04-15-2009 09:11 PM

I just watched the episode (thanks DVR!) and I'm so excited but poor Phil. I feel so bad for him & I'm worried for him.

Still, I love, Love, LOVE my bad boys on the Time Bandit. The Hillstrands ROCK!

nikki1920 04-15-2009 09:43 PM

Thanksgiving this year will feature opelio and King crab in honor of the brave men who provide us with this delicious treat from the sea. :) (and in honor of those who were lost. I'm still in awe how a whole boat and it's crew can just disappear like that! Gotta respect the sea and her power.)

Leslie Anne 04-15-2009 10:58 PM

I love that the boys are back! I've really missed them.

I love when they have the 4 captains together. They truly respect each other. Phil is my favorite. And his sons.... are DEFINITELY my favorite!

It's neat to see them all together too. What's even cooler is the thought of their fathers and their fathers' fathers doing the same thing too.

Is Jake Anderson back on the Northwestern? I couldn't tell. There's a guy who looks like him, but he definitely does not look like the young, bright-eyed Greenhorn they had last season, lol.

Yes it's still Jake. The Northwestern is our favorite because Sig and Edgar are funny, live-in thinks Sig's the most badassed guy of all badasses, and I think Jake is a cutie patootie.

I don't know...I think Phil's pretty badass even though he's not fishing. I was :( to see him smoking despite all the crap he went through last year, but he's still a badass for surviving an embolism...that's for sure.

My favorite Jake moment was when he stripped down to his long johns last season. He was proving to the crew that he could accurately throw the hook to reel in the rope. Good thing he missed a lot of them because we got to see him take his clothes off. LOL

agzg 04-16-2009 03:27 PM

I. So. Would. Live-in would probably cheer me on.

BetteDavisEyes 04-23-2009 01:07 AM

R.I.P. to the lost members of the crew of the Katmai that went down.

Poor relief Captain Murray. I hope he finds crabs soon.

BetteDavisEyes 04-30-2009 01:27 AM

:(

It was a sad episode to watch. I kept tearing up when they kept talking about the lost fishermen of the Katmai. They were all so young.

Also, I wonder when Sig finally tells his crew about them since he was adamant about not giving the bad news to his crew.

Finally, I was sad that I didn't see my Hillstrand boys on this episode. I always look forward to seeing them in an episode.

BetteDavisEyes 05-20-2009 09:03 PM

I love this show. I laughed at Phil's son (the oldest) lighting his cigarette with the blowtorch. I like them getting the mohawks for good luck but I still feel bad for Murray and the crappy crab season he's had. I miss Phil. :(

Leslie Anne 05-20-2009 11:28 PM

I think Murray's missing Phil too. Poor guy just can't get on the crab. :(

Did anyone else catch Cash Cab about two weeks ago? It was on right before Deadliest Catch and a whole bunch of the Captains and deckhands were in the cab for charity. It was so strange seeing the boys in New York City. Ben asked them so many ship, ocean and navigation questions and they kept getting them wrong. :p I'll have to check if it's on youtube.

On another note...Deadliest Catch Marathon on Memorial Day!

I watched! I didn't watch Season 1 & 2 when they first aired so now I'm caught up. :)

King Crab season is over. Now it's time for opie's! Woohoo! More of the Harris boys for me to fantasize about. ;) The more I watch, the more I find Josh and Jake sexy...especially Josh. *drool*

I also got a kick out of watching the Hillstrands fishing in Cabo while everyone else was sweating out the season to get those crabs. Sig speaking to his Norweigan counterparts threw me but it was pretty cool.

Mike can't believe how addicted to the show I am. It's pretty funny to him. *shrugs* I don't know how or why I got into it but I now I'm a huge fan.

BetteDavisEyes 05-28-2009 11:41 PM

Ooh! Please do take a picture! I told Mike the Harris brothers are on my list now. He just rolled his eyes at me and wished me luck with that.

Yay for Lenny retiring! I was happy for him but I hope that Keith gets someone good to replace him.

As for Jake, I will stare with you. He's just dreamy. *sigh*

Now I'm getting visuals of the Harris boys and Jake Anderson...;)

BetteDavisEyes 06-02-2009 09:16 PM

It's the start of opilio crab season! WOOHOO! :)

BetteDavisEyes 06-05-2009 01:05 AM

Wow. The start of opilio crab season was a doozy! First, YAY for Captain Phil's return. WTH? Why did Murray leave? So sad! :(
Also, perhaps someone can clear this up. Mike & I weren't sure. Phil made a comment about Jake & Josh not getting along & that Jake has been on the boat longer but Josh is a full share deckhand.
The confusion is this: Is Jake a full share deckhand too or is he pissy b/c he's been there longer than Josh but still doesn't get a full share?

Also, Captain Keith is an idiot. WTH is he thinking leaving with that many pots? Every other captain took about half the pots their ships hold b/c of the extremely horrible weather and all he did was dump 15 or 20. Even Phil made a comment about him leaving with so many pots in those conditions.

Is it me or is Scotty Hillstrand a douche? I don't know why but he's the only Hillstrand I can't stand. I adore Captain Jonathan & Captain Andy but Scotty is a moron. He rubs me the wrong way.

VandalSquirrel 07-04-2009 08:13 PM

Marathon all weekend, which I am watching since I'm stuck indoors.

Watching Sig is like watching any one of my uncles, other than he's blonde and they are all red heads.

I also realized that we have the same gear for Alaskan field work, which is in my basement for the summer, sigh.

BetteDavisEyes 07-04-2009 08:56 PM

I'm watching today's marathon b/c I wanted to see last season again. :)

I'm still crushing on the Harris boys. ;)

VandalSquirrel 07-05-2009 07:32 PM

Oh Captain Sten, you're completely adorable in your Dale of Norway Setesdal pull over sweater. I also see your nisse in the wheel house.

DH is addicted to this show! It is growing on me

BetteDavisEyes 07-15-2009 09:56 PM

My heart just broke for Jake Anderson and his family. I cried while watching the episode when he learned of the death of his sister. :(

BetteDavisEyes 07-28-2009 09:33 PM

Tonight is the season finale of the show. :(
I love this show & will miss it but look forward to when it returns...next year. :p

Dreadloc'd Diva 07-28-2009 10:34 PM

I saw the season finale. It was great. These are some tough guys doing this kind of job! Does anyone have a favorite crew?

I love them all except The Wizard or whatever. Keith seems like a douche. He sets pot for pot on Phil. He was such an unnecessary ass to Moi a few seasons ago. Now he takes one of the Time Bandit boys at the end of the season? I know these guys have to work and it was what's his names decision (the guy who was fired) but it just seems like that would break the brotherhood that every boat has. I don't know. I just really don't like Keith. I'd even rather have Monte than Keith.

BetteDavisEyes 07-29-2009 01:39 AM

In order of preference:

Time Bandit - Jonathan is by far my favorite captain. He's funny as hell but he takes care of his boat & his crew. He's a family man & I love him for that though truth be told, his son Scotty is a douche. Andy is also fun & I like seeing a young captain.

Cornelia Marie - Phil is great & I love watching the relationship he has with Josh & Jake. I also laugh at his "crab farts" theory.

Northwestern - You can't go wrong with Sig. He's a crabby guy but he's very entertaining. Beneath his grumpy exterior is a good guy as evidenced in what he did for Jake Anderson. He also has the nicest boat in the fleet.

Incentive - Wasn't shown much this season but you gotta love a hardass captain with a full on fu manchu mustache.

Wizard - Keith is an asshat. He really is.

Dreadloc'd Diva 07-29-2009 09:28 AM

Yeah, what Sig did for Jake was very kind of him,and you can see the rest of the crew really feel for him when his sister died. I know how Jake feels losing an older sister.:(

Time to bump up this thread because I had to. For Christmas, one of the gifts Mike got me was the sweetest sweatshirt from the Time Bandit. It's black and has a picture of the boat on the back with this lettering:
"F/V Time Bandit
Dutch Harbor, Alaska"

Haha! I love this show & went over the moon when Mike got me the sweatshirt. Now I have to buy him a Northwestern one b/c that's his favorite boat & captain.

In a weird coincidence, it turns out that my youngest sister (we never really got along) both love the show. We finally have something in common other than blood. She's a fan of the Cornelia Marie. It was great to finally bond with my sister over something. :) My father-in-law is a fan of The Wizard as well.

Leslie Anne 12-30-2009 01:05 AM

Yeah, Time Bandit! Congrats on your sweatshirt and the new connection with your sister. :)
