i at the moment am boring and have just one hole in each ear. However I am piercing my belly button as soon as the summer is over! (I swim in the ocean a lot in the summer and don't want nasty ocean SALT water in a healing wound... oww!) I can't wait!

Ideal08 06-11-2001 01:42 PM

My ears and my tongue. I absolutely LOVE my tongue piercing. I like piercings, and pretty much anything about self expression. I have to admit, there is a certain rush to the whole piercing thing!

Corbin Dallas 06-11-2001 01:58 PM

a guy on my floor freshman year got his, ahem!, pierced. I'm not really sure why though. I know he thought of himself as a player, had 2 gf's at once, one back home and one at school. He was an allright guy, still see him and talk to him every once in a while. I never saw the piercing, but I know he chased a guy on my floor around trying to show him, just because the guy flipped out when he told him about it. I thought that was hilarious. The only theory we could come up with as to why he got it was so he could tell girls he did, and then they'd say, wow i've never seen that before, and then he could show them...

Hey all! I posted this to Hootie in the XO forum, but thought this would help others in the future, so here goes...

Hey Hootie and others!
I was browsing an old magazine today and they gave some awesome tips! Oh yeah, congrats on taking that step...I'm sure you'll love your piercing!!!!!!!!!

Here is what YM Mag said to do:
-Find a reputable piercer: Piercers are not regulated, so to find a safe one near you, write to the Association of Professional Piercers at 519 Castro St., #120, San Francisco, CA 94114 (Well, this part won't be much use to you now, but for future reference! And, I've probably passed by this Association...it's in my city!)

-Keep it clean: Your piercer should use a new pair of disposable latex gloves and a fresh-from-the-wrapper, sterilized needle for every piercing. If he or she doesn't, leave immediately. again, for future reference

-Care for your piercing properly: Wash your hands well, then, without taking jewlery out, clean around piercing twice daily with an ear-piercing antiseptic, antibacterial soap, or antibacterial mouthwash. Holes can take four weeks to a year to completely heal (you may experience redness, pain, or swelling the first week).

-Watch for infection:
Excessive redness, swelling, discharge, throbbing pain, or a sensation of heat are clues that you're not healing properly. If any of these symptoms last more than a few days, call your doctor. IMPORTANT: Don't take out jewelry--you can make infection worse.

HTH you Hootie!! BTW, this is from the Nov '97 issue of YM (yeah, I keep old mags) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif.

LOL Hootie! Glad you liked it http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. I actually have a large old mag collection! I used to collect them (sorta), but then it got too overwhelming (imagine how my bookcase must have looked like!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif ), so I stopped. But I still have a scattering of old mags!~ I even have some from 1989 (my sister's)!!! Now, isn't that interesting?! They have photos of girls wearing poufy prom dresses/hair and Day-glo sneakers and leggings http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. And then there are ads for Maybelline Kissing Koolers (remember those? I had a few when I was little!!)!! LOL!

Good luck with your new belly piercing!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hey hey!!!

I just HAD to go looking for this topic! After talking about it all summer, I FINALLY got my belly button pierced today!! With a week and a half left before I leave for college. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I was at a friend's house and we were talking about it, and it was so spontaneous and random! We just decided to jump in the car and go get ours done. The actual piercing didn't hurt, but all day long I've been sore. I read that post where it said healing takes 4 weeks to a year... I'm gonna try and take some super care of mine because I want it to be minimal. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif I love it though... I think it's so cute!

Oh, btw, I also have my ears pierced once each, but they've been done since I was a little baby so I've always kinda taken them for granted.

ThetaGal 08-17-2001 08:48 AM

Hmm... I have had my ears peirced since I was about 7, but its always been a touchy thing because I'm allergic to the nickel in sterling silver.. So I have always had to buy special earrings.
This should have clued me in when I got my belly button periced, but I really didnt think about it. It was a on the fly choice, I was bored one day, so me and a sister went to a periciong place and I got it done. Six months later I had to get it replaced because it still had not healed up right. Fun!!
I used to want to get my eyebrow done, but I heard those leave bad scars, and who really needs a scare on their face??
take care, ya'll!!

I have 3 holes in each ear, plus I have my cartilage pierced in my left ear. People did tell me that the cartilage piercing would hurt, but it wasn't bad at all! I've never had many problems with it, except it was a little hard to change it from a stud to a hoop. I also have my belly button pierced, and just got a new one today. It's has a clear rhinestone with silver sun rays around it...a bit bigger than my last one, but very cute! And getting my belly button pierced did not hurt that much either, so anyone who is afraid to do it, don't be! Plus, the guys like it and always give me compliments! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Hey Orchid,
I'm glad you got your belly button pierced. Mine is doing better...I'm actually thinking about changing it now. Every now and then I have a few small problems where it grows shut over the ring and it hurts to move it, but otherwise I hardly remember that it is there.
It did take mine a good month to heal. At least to the point where I could touch it and sleep on it. The best advice I got was to clean it with salene solution three times a day. I tried everything but that seemed to work well.
Have fun at school and keep us posted on your ring.

I just got my cartilage pierced in my left ear a few weeks ago. It didn't hurt really, but it's SUCH a pain in the ass trying to sleep on that side http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif I have to position my hand in just the right spot so it doesn't press against the pillow. I hope that changes for the better VERY soon!!!

Congrats on the BB piercing Orchid. It should be nice and normal quite soon http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

HOOTIE!!! I highly recommend exchanging your ring for a bar instead. It is much easier to slide up and down so as to not have the skin grow around it and also it is much less likely to get snagged on pantyhose or any waistband. Plus, there are some really, really cute bars out there. Mine is silver with a small ball on the top and an aquamarine on the bottom that sits right in my bellybutton. I recommend going to a piercing place to get it changed though; doing it at home is definitely not for the faint of heart (like me!)

What do you guys think about a guy with his nipple pierced?

purpleturtle 08-18-2001 01:51 AM

Okay after hearing all of the cartilage horror stories, I have decided that I am the luckiest person around! I have two small silver hoops in my left ear carilage, and they were both done with a safety pin. One of my sisters did them and she dissenfected everything with alcohol. I have had absolutely no problems with either one, even sleeping on them. They have never been infected, and I have had them for about four months. I know it wasn't exactly the safest thing in the world, but it was one of those spur of the moment things with a little influence of some beverage http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif.
The only other peircing I have besides my ears is my tongue (done professionally) it never swelled, and I had it done the day before Thanksgiving and still ate. I guess I am just really lucky!

I changed the barbell on my tongue the other day--and it's been a pain getting used to it.

I used to have a glow in the dark barbell but it kinda got a little old..so now I have sparkling light blue barbell.

This one's slightly larger than my old one, so for the first few days I felt like my tongue was being smashed in...but now I'm used to it.

I wonder when I'm going to take this thing off?? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif

I'm also contemplating getting another tattoo...but I'll save that for the tattoo thread. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Tracy http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Hey Tracy! I already have two Japanese Kanji characters on the nape of my neck. One reads "LOVE" and the other "MOM". I got it so when my mom found out she wasn't going to get mad, because after all, it was for her. She got mad, though--but she got over it. It's usually covered by my hair, but when it's not I'll wear the appropriate clothing.

I was thinking about getting a floral band (probably a maile lei) around my ankle. At first I was hesitant because I thought it'd look unprofessional later on, but you can't really tell if I wear hose. I did a temp tattoo there and I actually tried on the hose to see how it'd look.

Now I have to work up the nerve to go back to that chair. The neck wasn't that bad, but I know the ankle's a different story.

I wanted to get something down my lower back area, but with my back problems who knows what could happen? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT I FOUND...
Okay, in case you all don't know, I work in a jewelry store. Well we get this professional jeweler magazine and in last month's issue is an advertisement for genuine diamond and gemstone belly rings. They are the bar type like KillarnyRose recommended, but on the end there will be a round diamond in the middle with either sapphires, emeralds or rubies surrounding it to make it look like a flower. THEY ARE PRECIOUS.
Probably rather pricey too, but I had to share. If I find the ad again I'll let ya know the company name and 1 800 number.

SigmaChiCard 08-20-2001 04:43 AM

I know that this is all about belly rings, but here's a couple funny/gross stories...

#1 A girl that I had "talked" to for quite a bit, and we quasi-dated for a bit, before she decided to go lesbian, decided to get a ring for her, umm, clitoris....and had had it forever, with telling me...until I was sitting casually at her place one day, when she tossed something to me. Naturally, I caught it, as instinct instructs, and inquired it's nature. That's when I was informed exactly what sort of ring it truly was.

#2 A good friend of mine was at a party with me in my senior year, she was a sophomore (note: the last story is also when I was a senior). She had pierced her naval earler that day and resultingly was bleeding, which of course she felt natural due to her actions. Of course that was only until the 10th hour of mass bleeding, no alcohol was involved. We finally convinced that stubborn-donkey to go to the hospital and cleared her misfortune.

#3 another buddy of mine with nipple rings had them, umm, "removed" by his father by, umm, "force" He ripped them out

#4 another person I didn't know personally, but lived in the same village I do decided to get her tongue pierced, then did coke that night, and because of the accessibilty to the blood stream for the coke, she passed that evening

#5 I pierced my buddies ear with a safety-pin after my other best girl friends virtually killed him with a piercing earring, It was absolutely miserable. But interesting....

So, sorry for the negative twist on all that, but that's what insight can turn out to be on the occassion

Cory

Wow, interesting stories Cory.

When I lived on campus 2 years ago my old lesbian/bisexual/whatever she was roommate got her clitoris pierced. A day after that she and I went jogging on Cooke Field late that afternoon. After about 5-10 minutes on the track I noticed that her face was a bit flushed and she was panting! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif

It took me a while before I figured out what was going on. I was very impressed that it only took 5-10 minutes. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif

Wow, that's all i have to say about that!

on the topic of pierced nipples, my gf's brother got one of his pierced one spring break. he ended up removing it eventually, but that nipple is almost always hard. it's pretty funny.

i was going to get my tongue pierced in high school, but the flap of skin under it goes out to far. now i'm glad i didn't get it done, mostly because it's fairly expensive, and it's something i would probably have gotten rid of by now, due to job interviews and such.

Hey Billy! Where have you been hiding? We've missed you!!! Congrats on the tongue piercing... I've kinda wanted to do it but I'm way too chicken. :P

Hootie, that bar is SO cute! I want to get my ring changed to a bar after it heals, but for now it's just easier to take care of. It doesn't hurt anymore, but I still can't sleep on it! Anyway, I've gotten compliments from everyone I've showed it too, and I'm so glad I did it! How's yours doing? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

I have both of my ears pierced twice and I have my tongue pierced *YES I HAVE MY TONGUE PIERCED* Its not all that bad actually Im sure itll be coming out soon but hey I was 16 when I did it and it was soo cute to me then!! but at least I know if I take it out the whole will be unnoticeable!

ZTAMich 12-09-2001 06:22 PM

I decied to post on this thread even tho it's been a while since someone did...last nite I got my tounge pierced. It's awesome. I love it. Today I was installed as our chapter's new pres and apparently some sisters are upset at me, unsure why I got pierced...an alumn who does a lot with our chapter apparently hates them and has spoken her opinion about the one or two sisters who have their tounges or other visible parts done...I don't get it. I know the piercing/tatoo world has a stigma attached to it esp with the older generation. But why would sisters be mad about the whole thing? My ears are pierced, my belly is too so what does my tounge being pierced add or detract from the person I am that they elected? I just needed to vent so thanks if you read this!! :)

Hootie 12-09-2001 08:15 PM

Congratulations on getting your tongue pierced. I couldn't do it that's for sure!
Just this Friday my roomie and I both bought new belly rings and changed them on our own (for the first time). I so still want the one pictured above but I don't have $400 to spend to get it...especially if I'm not going to have my belly pierced forever ya know (kids someday).

XO_Princess 12-27-2001 09:40 PM

I have my ears and belly button done. That didn't hurt, healed with no problems-I have a bar, b/c I was advised that a hoop will take longer to heal, and can catch on your clothes (yucky thought). I really, really want to get a small silver stud in my nose, but my family and Hunny are really having problems with that idea. My mom told me that I couldn't come over anymore if I did it...I'd hate to miss out on free dinners!!:D

And, I'm trying hard to convince myself that it won't hurt that bad, b/c it's just cartilage, and I've had that pierced before(cartilage, that is), and that wasn't so bad...trying hard....:D

KappaStargirl 12-27-2001 10:44 PM

So the original question was "What do you think when you see people with piercings?" I'll tell you what I think: "Damn, these people are brave!" I have three holes in each ear but for some reason when I take out my earrings they reclose very quickly! so I usually just wear earrings in the first holes, which I've had since first grade (I was a trendsetter). It took me 5 years to get up enough courage to get my belly button pierced, and I had to sit like a pregnant lady for a week, but it's cute and good motivation for me to keep doing crunches. :) It also impresses the teens I work with. As for the rest of my body, I am just too much of a wuss to get anything else done.

AlphaGamDiva 12-28-2001 02:26 AM

the peircing thing makes me nervous...ears are fine, but i got my navel done and the outcome wasn't pretty. gained a cute scar to show my kids, though, when they want to get it done...:p

I want to get my eyebrow pierced, but I don't want to get fired from my job.

Peaches-n-Cream 12-28-2001 09:38 PM

On our first date, this guy suggested that I pierce my eyebrow. I should have known at that moment that things never would have worked out between us! I have had pierced ears since the age of twelve. That hurt so much and got so infected that I could never pierce anything again.

bluz4 12-29-2001 12:29 AM

so much skin, so many holes....

soon as i saw a forum on piercings, i had to share my experience.
i have 11 earhole piercings; 5 in one, 6 in another. i have had my eyebrow and my labret (the spot under your bottom lip) pierced. my dad took me for both of them to make sure the place was clean and certified. i took them out 2 years ago because i outgrew them. then i went on this tattooing rampage... but thats another story.
now i've let my 9 earholes remain empty and i just wear earrings in my first 2 holes that i got when i was a baby. four months ago my mom talked me into getting my nose pierced and since i had a job and i didnt think they would mind... i got a tiny little silver stud in my nose... i have to say that was the worst pain i have encountered of all the piercings i have had. well thats my sharing moment. to those who are planning to get piercings, just make sure everything is clean and that you take care of the piercings. i havent had any of mine get infected.

volgirl2376 12-29-2001 01:19 AM

i hate hate hate piercings on a guy...i guess because i like my man pretty preppy looking...not pirates!

personally, i have my ears pierced - 2 holes in each ear and my cartilage in my left ear...but i only wear earrings in one hole on each side. pretty boring.

let me add...it makes me incredibly angry when people drag their little newborn or toddler kids to get their ears pierced - they cry and scream...why does a baby need earrings??? they dont even have hair yet for gods sake. im sorry to all those who have done this - but i think its cruel, silly, and not your decision to make! what if they ended up like the one lady on here who said she had virgin ears and liked them that way :)
