KillarneyRose So what's the answer?

Lots of Heart actually it was due to the influenza epidemic, good geuss though.

THis Montreal team was the basis for Anglo-Montrealers until their stadium burned down and the team folded. What were they called?

KillarneyRose 07-15-2001 08:00 PM

Hey everyone! I was out of town so I couldn't post the answer to my trivia question!

Who was the first American ever taken in the first round of the draft?

Mike Ramsey, drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 1979

Here's a question for you.

What minor league team gives players to the Grand Rapids griffins?

HINT, one step lower than the IHL/AHL

Wow Holy $hit that question was a bit of a joke, I didn't think anyone would get it - Good Answer .

I'm not too familiar with the minor leagues of farm clubs. If i had to geuss i would say the Muskegeon Fury.

Thrillhouse 07-15-2001 09:43 PM

Wow LILG you must really know your hockey. That was the correct answer. This one is for killarney rose. Who scored the most goals in the 1995 all-star game? You get a gold star if you get this one right http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

My first guess is Mario Lemieux but if that's wrong I'll go with Jagr???

Thrillhouse 07-18-2001 12:41 AM

bumpidy bump

anyone have any other trivia questions?

Thrillhouse 07-18-2001 01:34 AM

The correct answer is no one. No all star game was played that year. Next up, Lil G. Who was the first russian goalie to record a playoff win?

Lil_G 07-18-2001 10:59 AM

Tretiuk (sp?) ...
Is this another trick question? Khabibulin is the only russian goalie that I can think of but did he get any playoff wins, hmmmm.

Lil_G 07-18-2001 01:29 PM

Ex Greek , you're up - in the 1972 Summit Series with Canada vs the Commies, List the various ways the russians cheated in their attempt to beat Canada.

Thrillhouse 07-18-2001 11:46 PM

Well first of all, they paid the refs to call a couple of questionalble penalties.

Than they tied rockets to their skates, but that didn't work.

Than they tried to pay canadien players 1000 rubles each to throw the game, but the canadien players said no because rubles mean nothing to them.

And finally, they tried to sneak an extra guy on the ice on a breakaway in the deciding game but their attempt failed when they got an offsides call. The refs figured it out once they saw the russians have six men on the ice plus the goalie.

Thrillhouse 07-18-2001 11:47 PM

Hey lil g, I posted a trivia question in the dz forum for killarney rose as well.

Ex Greek
- Bravo, kudos to a great answer...

With all the talk of salaries and free agent signings there's a lot of noise being made about what impact rising salaries will have on the NHL and NHLPA.

Here's some good quotes:

'No, don't give us that much money.' Obviously, if they continue to raise the salaries, they must be making money."

and

You go with what people want," Damphousse said. "If you raise the prices and people go for it, you're okay. If people don't buy it, that's when you adjust. That's the limit"

These two quotes were taken from Vincent Damphousse of The Sharks.

And here's another opposing viewpoint by Brian Burke:

I know we can't support the salaries. I know that some of the teams who have spent that money are doing it without the financial capability to pay the money. I'm running my business like a business. I'm going head-to-head with people who are crazy as far as I'm concerned."

I know one of teams that spent crazy money lost $20 million last year," Burke said.

So i ask you, do you think the NHL is playing a destructive path of follow the leader with MLB?
Are we destined to go for another strike?
Should Gary Bettman be replaced with someone who knows what he's doing?

Alright guys, Team Canada released their roster and i'm wondering what everyone's opinion on who will make it and who will go home crying.

Those already on the team
Centres:
Lemeiux Sakic Yzerman
Wingers:
Kariya Nolan
on D:
Pronger Blake Neidermeyer

The Rest
Goalies: any surprise?
Brodeur, Roy, Cujo, Belfour

Defence:
Macinnis, Jovanoski, Desjardins, Matvichuk, Morris, Redden, Stevens, Foote, Brewer
4 of these guys will make the team

Centres/Wingers:
Peca, Lindros, Primeau, Recchi, Gagne, Morrow, Nieuwendyke, Carter, Smythe, Fleury, Tanguay, Madden, Shanahan, Turgeon, Arnott
only 8 of this group of 15 will make it

[This message has been edited by Lil_G because the information containing the previous roster was incorrect (edited July 23, 2001).]

#1 that is an unbeatable team. Anyways, Stuart Mcabe and brewer won't make it. I think it is obvious which forwards will make it. I don't see anyomne beating them in the medal rounds

Lil_G 07-24-2001 11:24 AM

You don't think stuart will make the team? I think he's got a good shot?

Here's my predictions:
Goalies, Cujo and Brodeur will make the team, I think it would be wise to bring in a young goalie (Luongo) as the 3rd since he probably won't see any action anyway.

Defence:
1st pairing: Pronger with MacInnis
2nd pairing: Blake with Jovanovski
3rd pairing: Stuart with Neidermeyer
reserve D: Adam Foote

Up front:

1st Line:
Kariya at left wing, Lemieux at center and Allison at right wing

2nd line:
Arnott at left wing, Sakic at center and Nolan at right wing

3rd line:
Smythe at left wing,Yzerman at Centre, Lindros at right wing

4th Line:
O'Neil at left wing, Peca at centre, Thornton at Right Wing

Those are my picks, we'll see how they differ from gretz'

Thrillhouse 07-24-2001 01:10 PM

I totally agree with everyone about Allison. Maybe someone has something against him. I am going to laugh my a$$ off if lindros does make it though. He should be put on a european team even though he is canadien

Lil_G 07-24-2001 05:55 PM

Yeah if Allison is off the time, watch out for some rioting. There is a lot of connections at work though, i really don't think neiuwendyke and morrow would have been invited if Hitchcock wasn't one of the assistants.

Thrillhouse 07-25-2001 12:21 AM

Lindros? Bwhahahahhahahahaa

Lil_G 07-25-2001 12:32 AM

Lindros will be on the team, you watch.

I'm shocked, Jason Allison didn't even get an invite, can someone explain this to me?

Stuart also didn't get an invite even though he's way better than Redden and Morris...christ I don't think these guys know what they're doing.

Geuss I have to change O'Neil as well, how the hell brendan morrow was picked over a guy who scored 41 goals last year I have no idea. Same goes for Thornton, I thought he would have made it because gretkzy wanted him on the team...
I wonder if Team Canada officials will share some of that powder will the rest of us.

[This message has been edited by Lil_G (edited July 24, 2001).]

Thrillhouse 07-25-2001 12:45 AM

Still a good team, but would have been scarier with thornton and allison. If Lindros does make it, but does not get traded this season, look for him to be playing for a career.

Lil_G 07-25-2001 12:53 AM

Well grezt' said that they have a list of over 40 players so maybe so of the 34 will get cut and others will be added. I mean there's a lot of controversy with who would make it and who wouldn't. But if you check out the www.tsn.ca/nhl forum by the fans on the Olympic selections it's clear everyone feels Allison should be on the team.

Thrillhouse 07-25-2001 04:35 AM

I heard today on the radio that if lindors did not make an nhl roster next season, he will not play for the canadien team.

Lil_G 07-25-2001 11:26 AM

Yeah that's been the case all along...that's why him and peca were so desperate to be traded because otherwise they knew they couldn't play in the olympics.

Thrillhouse 07-25-2001 01:41 PM

I never knew that. I think it would be hilarious as heck to see lindros out there. I hope he doesn't get injured at all but him and fedorov and bure would all fit in well together.

Hey Nick, is it true that Lindros is having an affair with Kournakova now http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif lol

Not sure what you mean by this, are fedorov and bure holding out as well?

Hey Nick, is it true that Lindros is having an affair with Kournakova now http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif lol

I thought she just married that dirty fedorov...if that's the case, and she has been a virgin this long, then he's been waiting a long time for some action.

Thrillhouse 07-26-2001 12:42 AM

What I meant about the line with bure and fedorov and lindros is they all are crybabies on the ice. Ask anybody who was a Quebec fan when they were around, heehee

Lots-a-Heart 07-26-2001 01:53 PM

First of all - I am totally happy to see that Alex Tanguay was invited to the try outs (former Halifax Moosehead!) I think with all the NHL "Superstars" getting older, it would be in their best interest to promote players such as Tanguay!
Goalies: Since it is Gretzky making the team, I can see him adding his friends. I belive that it will be Roy (cuz retirement is callin') and Brodeur
Defence: Stevens I think is great and as I said with friends, I am surprised that Macinnis didn't make it alongside Blake.
I also pick Desjardins and Foote
Centres/Wingers: Tough one. Like I already said, I would love to see Tanguay get a spot! My ideal team would then be Arnott, Shanahan, Peca, Fleury (although he has had problems as of late), Lindros (if he would put some effort into it!), Primeau and Nieuwendyke. The problem is that Peca, Lindros and Fleury haven't been on the ice is awhile.
I'm probably totally off, but those are the ones I like!

Hahahah yeah well the lindros and quebec thing wasn't completely accurate, even though something similar happened in junior for the 'Sue. All russians are crybabies if you ask me, that's why they choke on the international scene - no patriotism.

Lil_G 07-26-2001 09:46 PM

I still can't believe Allison isn't on the team, just watch him play for the U.S. - deja vue Brett Hull.

We need more goal-scorers (Allison finished 4th last year and O'Neil had 41 goals), that was a major problem last time around. We only beat loser countries like Belarus 5-2 when those games should have been embarrassing for the other team.

Those idiots at Team Canada should ignore personal biases, none of the 5 dallas stars deserve to be on the team.

Suter has got to be the dirtiest player in the history of the game. He's only good at injuring superstart players, maybe he'll do us a favor and take out jagr or forsberg.

Lil_G 07-27-2001 04:20 PM

Dude, I was checking out the other rosters...the fins are garbage, the czechs have no D, but the swedes and russians look strong. The U.S. team is good, lots of depth up front but on the blue line and in nets, ehhhhh.
We should be allowed to enter two teams. We have enough talent to do so.

Hey Ulf samulesson sp? is up there too though he didn't take too many people out. I enjoyed watching him play. Part of the beauty of hockey is not cinderblock heads like Suter and dale hunter but guys like pat verbeek, who are dirty yet good at the same time.

Hell yeah, our forwards are great. But our defense is old and creaky and I have no idea who will be the goaltender. Whoever it is will have to play really well by a miracle like richter did a few years back in the world championships I think it was.

It was the world cup of '96 in Montreal. How do I know this? I was at that game! He was phenomenal. Speaking of the world cup/canada cup, how did the olympics take precedent over it?

Lil_G 07-28-2001 11:31 AM

I think the North Americans will have a better go this time around because they have much more preparation time. Last time they were tossed on a plane with no practices unlike the european teams like the czechs who had more time for the lines to gel.
