Hope this didnt bother anyone since im not a member of greek life *yet* http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ "He is not perfect, you are not perfect. The question is whether or not you are perfect for each other" |
This list could go on and on and on.
I'm so all about the bottled water in the purse. I got this awesome bag for Christmas (Nine West, not Kate Spade) that I always carry my water (Poland Spring anyone?) with my books, etc. Workout gear w/ letters. It's crazy...my workout bag and shirt are Alpha Chi. I'm totally known as "that sorority girl" in the gym. The agenda. I'm SO into mine. I carry it around w/ credit cards, phone book, etc. You never know when you're going to need it! This is sorta kinda gross, but floss. Sometimes I don't come back to my room after I leave in the morning for 12 hours at a time, and I'm very concerned w/ dental health. Plus, mossy teeth aren't cool. Those New Balance 803 running shoes. They're amazingly comfortable. |
What about sunglasses? What are the coolest ones to wear right now (and please don't say the Charlie's Angels ones)!
|
Hi! I am still a senior in high school, but my family has season tickets to all football games and we eat lunch (or dinner, depending on the game time) at a sorority house on game days. Just my obsevation, but every girl has:
1. A North Face jacket (not just the fleece, but the shell too) 2. A cute colored scarf 3. Leather Jacket 4. SILVER JEWELRY!!! 5. Black bootleg pants 6. A Kate Spade bag 7. Nokia cell phone and the list goes on.... this is such a cute topic! |
1. A nearby Sephora
2. SUV....Classics please, Explorers, Rovers, Jeeps, Explorer Sports, 3. Good head shot for when you get Sister of the week, or get engaged 4. Black bootleg pants 5. Strappy Sandals 6. Dark Denim 7. Sexy heels to go with the dark denim...very Sex in the City! 8. Black bikini 9. Tank watch 10. Pearls 11. Sunscreen, bronzer, lipgloss, mascara 12. Bigs ID http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif 13. Your own...after all those years! 14. Cute cleavage tops, tanks for summer 15. Knee length skirts 16. Return to Tiffany bracelet 17. Kate Spade...basic black, then wild colors for summer 18.Northface backpack 19. Volvic Water 20. MARGARITA MIX! |
Every sorority girl must have her MAC lipglass (lipgloss). I prefer to wear the clear on my casual days and the Oh Baby shade on my dressy days.
|
so far, everyone is right on with all this. i don't think i could ever live without:
black stretchy boot cut pants (from bcbg or bebe) bobbi brown makeup BLACK kate spade (sam or clare) thong from victoria's secret blond highlights frederic fekkai lipgloss my 4 runner (silver- she's so gorgeous!) kate spade planner and keychain/wallet nokia cell phone (nothing older than the 6100) my badge (CHI OMEGA of course) a travel size of touch perfume by tocca palm pilot silver bean necklace from tiffany platinum/diamond stud ER (got em for HS graduation) --- i think that's it. sure, it sounds superficial, and there is much more to my personality than what i wear. but that is the stuff that makes my outward image/appearance. this website is such a great idea!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
No offense to you girls on this post, but you sound like "typical" spoiled sorority girls. Don't get me wrong, its nice to have things, but c'mon, stuff from TIFFANY's? I mean, can I get my daddy to his credit card to go and shop? GAG....Sorry girls, just speaking my mind!

I love the topic and presume its tongue-in-cheek about necessitites vs. wants. Besides the typical list of "goodies", I just got a Palm Pilot. I love it! I keep track of everything on it and can edit and update reports and projects when and whereever. Its like having a laptop in my purse.
|
I think I'm gonna agree with ULChiOCutie
on this one. You are making us sorority girls look like we are living up to the typical sterotype. When I pledged here my friends got on my case all the time, saying that I was going to be sucked in by them, that I would no longer want to hang out with them, because I would be too stuck up and prissy for them. And they were wrong, because I've stayed close to my non-Greek friends. But yes being in a sorority you do have another side to you, and yes I do like and have some of those things, but that's not what I'm all about either. On my list I think I would have to add my favorite pair of worn down blue jeans, and my comfy hooded sweatshirt that I wear when I sit around and drink beer before football games, because we often have tailgates with Pi Phi. I didn't join a sorority so I could brag about the things I have, I joined one so that I could brag about the sisters that I have. ------------------ Hillary Pi Phi love and mine |
YOU GO HILLARY!!! I AGREE TOTALLY!! It isn't what you have, but it's the bond that you have with your sisters. It doesn't matter what you drive or how many Kate Spade purses you have in your closets that match your BEBE black bootleg pants.....I guess I feel this way because I was never spoiled, and yes, I will admit that my parents DO have money, but they chose to spend it on my education, not cars and clothes...I pay for all of that myself...and other independant women who work for everything appreciates everything alot more! But hey, it's just my two cents....I hope no one is offended by my comments, I am only stating my opinion!

Ok, first of all, this is a fun, cute thread of wants and wishes mixed in with what we have. We are merely exchanging ideas, and it's really kind of tongue-in -cheek at that.I will admit that I am spoiled to an extent and have never wanted for anything, but I am not obnoxious as to what I have. I would never judge a girl based on whether she had a Kate Spade or the newest Land Cruiser. My parents were never frivolous with money and neither am I. I understand the value of a good education, and also understand the value of a good PERSONALITY. Although I do spend money on the above listed items, I feel that most of these items will last a long time, and are good quality pieces I can use again and again. I have found that by buying the best I save in the long run. These past few postings show how some topics on this site are taken to far by people who just want to cause animosity on the board. WHY is it that whenever there is a fun, harmless topic on here, it gets bashed?

WHAT does every sorority girl need?
well, this is obvious. her own mind. what EVERY woman needs. i think we can all agree on that now huh? kate ------------------ "watch me bounce!" |
-A Kate Spade picture book to hold pictures from all your formals and exchanges -Pearl or diamond studs (They go with everything) -A J.Crew and Nordstrom credit card -That perfect pair of dark denim jeans(I'm still seaching!) -A classic peacoat -A good CD and an accompanying sister for the gym. -A Kate Spade, Guess or Loius Vuitton bag that always holds...Altoids, good old chapstick, and water on hand for those "here he comes!" moments, a cell phone with good service, eyeliner and cheek color or bronzer for touch ups(all you need to look refreshed!), and a day planner. -A trip to get a french manicure on "blah" days. They make you feel 10 times more put together! -A buddy or sister to save you when scary guys are hitting on you at parties! And most importantly... True knowledge and appreciation of one's sorority and an honest respect and love for one's sisters! |
Every (sorority) girl's necessity:
- to take a self-defense course!!! |
The only NECESSITIES that you truly need is to be there for your sisters, and always stand true to your sorority's principles.
I also agree with CutiePie and TemptingNugget. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by Theta-cutie (edited April 08, 2001).] |
I have to say that these postings do make me feel a little superficial but they're pretty true because I have all of these things...plus its a fun topic. P.S. Hardly any of my friends at my school even knew who Kate Spade was until I introduced the name...ugh!

So what's wrong with not knowing who Kate Spade is? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif I didn't even know who the hell she was until I joined GC. Again, I reiterate...not all of us have the money or mommy/daddy's credit cards to afford Kate Spade. 1) Kate Spade Messenger bag to carry books and notebooks 2) Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla 3)Clinique Black Honey Barely There Lipstick/Mac lipliner and Chanel matching eye color 4)Cute cell phone that works even in loud bars 5)Capri pants in every color and the J.Crew/Abercrombie/Gap tight polo 3/4 sleeve shirt 6)Ralph Sunglasses 7)Damn Black Pants and sparkly one-sleeved or halter tops for the night 8)An awesome and loving guy at her side :-) 9)The support of her sisters through everything Numbers #1-8 are LUXURIES . http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif #9 is the real NECESSITY . I hope we all can distinguish the difference. |

Really opens your eyes....one of those things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmm. My sorority essential is my camera and at least one roll of film. And i'm not just talking about having it for the big events like formals, but for those times when all the girls are just lounging around being silly, it's great to have a camera by your side to take snap shots of those moments http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif . |
(WARNING: The post you are about to read is completely tongue-in-cheek!)
Back in the stone ages when I was an active, the sorority girl's necessities were a Swatch Watch ($25), Guess jeans ($40), and RayBan Wayfarers ($50 or so). Now I am seeing Tiffany bracelets, Kate Spade bags and Bebe pants and am thinking that, in addition to my daughters' college fund, I need to set up a clothing fund as well. If things keep going in this direction, their clothing and accessory expenditures will outweigh the tuition and board! ------------------ ~@~Tracy~@~ Proud to be Delta-Z :-) |
I don't want to get into the morality of this whole topic, I just think it is cute! So, at Michigan State U. what every sorority girl needs in MY opinion is...(please don't yell at me and call me a shallow sorority girl, I promise I am a truly nice girl!)
-Small, cute cell phone (usually a Sprint) -Charlie Angel's sunglasses (authentic, no imposters) -very chic denim jacket -Prada black bag or backpack (classic!) -Kate Spade purse just for fun (parties, etc.) -Chanel glossimer to take everywhere! -MAC blot powder (a girl's best friend!) -a fav. perfume (Bvlgari Blv for me) -subscription to Cosmo! (hehe) -rhinestone studded bandana (for lazy days) -any Tiffany jewelry of course -SUV, bmw, mercedes or audi! (lots of bmw's and mercedes around here for some reason) -lots of bebe, todd oldham, tahari, and versace -a COUPLE hotties to DATE...no commitments (hehe) -membership to fake and bake (it's frickin freezing here...we need it!) -and the list could go on...but I will spare you the time!!! Greek life is awesome, and I love how all of you girls have great taste! |
yep! I agree with most of these thing a girl must have! But there is one thing I always need that I haven't seen on here..
The latest issue of cosmo! (I got the may issue today!) http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ------------------ "Only The Best Get Crowned" |

I would actually say that number 9 is the most optional . . independance women!
About cosmo . . . didn't they make Kirsten Dunst look really incredible on the cover . . . And her new boyfriend (if true) Ben Foster from "Get Over It". It should inspire non-awesome looking guys everywhere to believe there is hope . . but he is a movie star which is a plus. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Quote:

I am so offended. In response to James' post, Ben Foster is gorgeous! Whether that still means that non-awesome looking guys still have a chance is up to you!
|
Ben Foster is a cutie! I remember him from Flash Forward. He was okay back then, but now he has definitely gotten cuter! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Just a quick FYI:
There is no person named kate spade, the business is a collaboration between kate something or other and anthony spade (i believe that is his first name but i might be wrong) Hence kate spade http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Just a note. |

ACTUALLY...
Kate Spade is the wife of Andy Spade, brother of David Spade (who was on SNL) They met at Arizona State (where Kate was a KKG) and they formed the business using her first name and his last name. They later married. If you do a websearch on Kate Spade you should be able to find a bio on her http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif |
I would just like to say that I totally agree with you. I am a Zeta from Mich. state by the way! I was just reading the replies you got back from this post and I thought that they were sort of mean. I understand about Kate Spade, but I don't think that there is a single girl in my house that does not own one of her pieces or at the VERy least know of the line! So don't feel like you stand alone on this subject! Also, not to be rude, but Kate Spade is known as a world-wide corporation and I have actually purchased a little black bag in Toronto! I mean, just because it may not be as popular, I am sure that any one even slightly interested in haute couture would be familiar with this name. So, please don't take offense to this post anyone! I PROMISE I am not shallow, just adding to ZTAmizzou's message! (What chapter are you from?)

Hmm, I did not intend to offend, antagonize or violate your beliefs . . . http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
But . . . I do stand with my mouth agape. I would think that aesthetically Ben Foster is pretty much American average. Cute would be a good description. He is not physically developed to any degree. Or like your Calvin Klein models mentioned in other posts. I probably just have add this to my "Things I don't understand about women list." Quote:

ladies, don't front you know that there are some things that aren't so glam that sorority girls (especially AKA sorors) really need, like...
1. a white suit 2. some white pumps 3. a planner 4. voice mail that holds alot of messages 5. suits 6. a cell phone |
