I mean, I'm not educated enough on the situation to really cast any doubt on it, I just always thought it was bizarre. We have no clue who did it...well, now we know who did it, but it just so happens he's a survivalist...

I was actually kind of reminded of it when watching that movie "Shooter."

But seriously people, I'm not crazy, I just think how it went down was odd.

Oh, I don't think there was a conspiracy either but the whole thing never really came together in a way that made any sense. (And the brother cutting off his hand on tape, remember that weirdness?) I'm sure there's a book that I want no part of that could explain the whole thing.

I think it's really hard to tell who is crying wolf, who simply wants to seem like a player but is actually a wannabe (some of the Americans arrested in terrorists plots since 9-11 might be in this group), what's just crazy ranting, and what's really going to go down. I'm kind of amazed we ever have good intelligence.

I think that we may have had the knowledge at some level but the intelligence services were so competitive instead of cooperative that that information never would have gotten passed along. I'm not saying that Bush knew and didn't say a word.

I agree all of those seem odd, but if they are true why didn't Favre go to the Super Bowl, win, and then retire? And what about the Cubs never winning the World Series?

You talking about Boston coming back from 3-0 to the Yankees and winning the WS?

Haha, come on.......

There was no conspiracy in that. There wasn't even any questionable calls in the games that I can remember. They straight beat them down 4 games in a row.....aided by one of the most clutch players of our generation.

There are TONS of books a studies by scientists and crack-pot theorists about Aids as a creation to eliminate a race, or homosexuals, or as a war or economic tactic to destroy a country (such as Haiti) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIDS_conspiracy_theories) It is interesting and quite funny. Some are so detailed, and involve so much mock-evidence that you start to believe it. The most common of them is that it came about during the search for the polio vaccine when they were testing chimp organs. This theory was popularized by the Rolling Stones. Now there is a magazine you can trust on scientific theory.

Lol, the second part is 2% true, or at least it is the closest thing evidence can point to as the origin of AIDS. Except, it didn't have to come from having sex with a monkey, but some kind of transaction from monkey to human, such as getting bit, etc. is estimated it originated from Chimps in Cameroon. I would assume it possible came from digestion of a chimp, but there is a little validity to the polio theory.

A couple of my favorite are:
-Pearl Harbor was provoked by FDR so that the US would have reason to enter WWII
-Elvis is (or was) a gas station attendant in Alabama post his staged death
-Jackie O. killed Marilyn
-Pot was banned originally so that the hemp would not ruin the market for pulp or other synthetic materials that make paper
-The Medical Industry does not release Diet pills that actually work, or work as well, in order to maintain obesity, and this keep the market high on diet medication
-Jesus was not executed on the cross, but was mistaken for a man who looked similar
-Paul Macartney died in Oct, 1969 and was replaced by a look-a-like

OMG I remember when we all played our Abbey Road albums backwards and one song said "Paul is dead now, we miss him" in 1969. I had forgotten about that. And all the "clues" on the front of album cover.

weren't there supposed to be other "clues" like "I am the Walrus" going "one and one and one is three" as in only three real members left alive??

yep and the license plate on Abbey Road that said "28 IF" (Paul would be 28 if he lived).

If this one is true, I'm sure the fake Paul is kind of regretting he took this gig after the whole Heather Mills mess!! :p

Army Wife'79 04-09-2008 03:52 PM

Yes, there were tons of clues; I don't remember them anymore except Paul was barefoot on the album and people are buried w/o shoes. Ahh, good times.

Are people really buried without shoes? Why on earth would they do that?

Another one: at the end of "I Am the Walrus", you can clearly hear "Paul is dead" in a creepy voice.

We're Scandinavians, we don't get buried we get put on a ship and set on fire :p

Honestly though, I can't think of a relative in my family who was embalmed and/or buried, we're all about the cremation and scattering.

Army Wife'79 04-09-2008 06:21 PM

This is OT but I've been reading about "green burials" and there is no embalming and you are put in a box and buried with no vault so you decompose faster like in the Pioneer days. I like the idea. I've never understood the concept of spending $5K for a box to be buried in when most people don't have a stick of furniture in their house that costs that much.

DaemonSeid 04-14-2008 11:21 AM

'Gangsta rap' was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other.

alum 04-14-2008 11:36 AM

As I am winding up the tax returns that are due tomorrow (no sense in sending them in early if you aren't getting a refund), I really think the IRS has something against the little people of the world. Why does my 14 y.o. have to have a more difficult return than his parents? Isn't there a more efficient way to transcribe numbers and add up columns? Why does AMT come into play at such a low level? My H and I are college graduates from decent schools. We kept reassuring ourselves yesterday that we are not stupid people. Why can we not understand the instructions in the first reading?

Every year I swear I'm buying Turbo Tax next year instead of doing these things by hand.....

33girl 04-14-2008 11:51 AM

Why does your 14 year old have a tax return? Child labor??

DSTCHAOS 04-14-2008 12:39 PM

Child entrepeneur filing for her/his business?

alum 04-14-2008 12:41 PM

Unearned income over a certain piddly amt. (ie investment income) for a < 17 y.o. requires special treatment. Anything past that amount is assessed at the parental + any underage (used to be 14, now is 17) siblings' combined income rate. So the parents do their taxes, then you do your kids' taxes, then you reassess the parents' return plus the balance of the maximum in addition to any and all other kids.....

My mantra till the mail goes out tomorrow: "H and I are not stupid people. We believe in supporting our gov't as responsible citizens..."

RU OX Alum 04-15-2008 09:29 AM

was there really a question?

but seriously, that's bootsy guy was around in the 60's. The 60's were before Ice Cube. YOu can't blame gangsta rap for gangs. Blame the lack of orgs. like the panthers. Nothing for the kids to do , and so the kids turn to crime. You can't blame the people who are already generations deep into the game for making music about gangs. Because then you would be Tipper Gore. And she's scary. And would ban mortal kombat.

I didn't miss the point. The point "gangsta rap created/helped to create black on black crime" and I pointed out that is absurb, because there was already that before gangsta rap. So don't try scapegoat music just because you don't like it.
That's like saying everyone who wears a mustace is a nazi because Hitler had one, or that spainish novelists invented pedophilia.
