I have actually met some of the brothers last weekend, great guys BTW, and they said they break ground this September and it should be done by late 2009.

With that and the Sig Ep house on that row, some of those chapters are going to have to build to compete.

U. of Colorado Alpha Phi Buys Alpha Omicron Pi House, Article Reports

Sorority housing news for the U. of Colorado, dated June 6, 2008, from the “Boulder County Business Report”:

http://www.bcbr.com/article.asp?id=94209
Excerpt:
GREEK HOUSES: Alpha Omicron Pi . . . has sold its building in Boulder for $3.3 million.
Alpha Phi . . . purchased the 15,976-square-foot building at 1015 15th St., according to Boulder County public records. The organization plans to move its University of Colorado Alpha Phi chapter into the building next school year, Chapter Adviser Renee Zainer said.
Built in 1930 and featuring 27 bedrooms, the building sits on the northwest corner 15th Street and Euclid Avenue in the University Hill neighborhood . . . .
Officials with Alpha Omicron Pi headquarters in Tennessee could not be reached for comment. The organization no longer lists the University of Colorado chapter on its Web site. The Chi Delta chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi at CU was founded in 1927.
With the new purchase, Alpha Phi will consider to sell its existing building at 888 13th St., Zainer said. . . .

Our house has finally been bricked. We are going to open for the fall semester. I'll post pictures when I find some.

Kedzman 06-08-2008 10:08 PM

Sigma Nu at Knox College in Galesburg, IL supposedly built a new chapter house but those bright boys haven't been keen enough to post a photo of their house. http://www.deltathetatimes.org/index.php?id=465

Interesting tid-bit about our chapter at Knox. It is the only chapter amongst the 275 chapters chartered by Sigma Nu that is actually OLDER that Sigma Nu itself. The local fraternity, Delta Theta, was founded in 1861. Sigma Nu was founded in 1869 at VMI. The Delta Theta fraternity affiliated with Sigma Nu and was chartered in 1891. That would have put the Knox chapter in our "Beta" series, but Sigma Nu allowed Knox to hold onto their local chapter name as their chapter designation - thus, the Delta Theta chapter of Sigma Nu.

I loved living in this house. It is a historic landmark in Boulder and has a moat that runs through the front yard!

Somewhere around 8,000. It's a 12 bed, 6 bath. Mens & womens bathrooms on the first floor. Also an alumni room on adjacent the meeting room with a an office type deal, but has a shower, in case we ever need to lodge someone from HQ.

May not seem big compared to some, but for the campus, this is the biggest thing that will probably ever be built in terms of fraternities. If you see the house the house in the background, thats the Kappa Alpha house.

He's either trashing some strangers car outside the Frankie Goes to Hollywood concert, humiliating some guy by runnin' his head up and down the rail of a bar or drinking whiskey in an alley from an old shoe.

Great looking house... What's on the third floor? Can you send us floor plans so we can see how it lays out on each floor?

I thought we had them up somewhere, but we don't the only copies are hard copies in our current shack, that I'm a little ways away from for the summer. The third floor will be the chapter room and alumni room as well as study desks. There are 8 beds and four baths on the the second floor with a parlor/living room. And one half the first floor the remaining 4 beds and 2 baths. The other half the first floor will contain common room, kitchen, and mens and womens bathrooms.

We're getting there. We basically had the near equivalent of losing our charter, but we never actually lost it, the alum pushed quantity hugely, so some guys didn't get along, some were tools, but we're returning to form. We got to know the ARM from UF quite. Not sure if you'd know him or not, but he was a great help.

I would imagine it is a pain having the chapter room on the first floor, especially in a house that big, is that space used just for meeting or does it accommodate other things as well?

The chapter room also serves as our formal living room, so yes, it is an enormous pain. We have to move all the furniture- we have about 5 living room sets, plus end tables, pencil desks, etc.- against the walls and set up the chairs for our meetings. We've got to be the only fraternity house that thought this was a good idea.
Are you going to be living in the new one?

I may eventually live in it. Not now, I wouldn't get anything done there, ever.

And that does seem like a real pain in the ass. I thought moving the three couches and a couple of recliners in our shack was aggravating. I call it our shack, it was the former 6 bedroom living quarters, the hurricane demolished the common house. They were both shaped like pizza huts and both extremely small.

SECdom - What year are you? Just curious if you ever lived in the Snake house at UF when they were off campus.

Running joke here is that with KA will save a lot of money on electricity being in our shadow.

Unfortunately they seem to have a problem with our new house, as windows keep getting mysteriously broken. No doubts though, we caught their president in the act once.

banditone 06-17-2008 09:46 AM

Yup, it was that house/campus. It was a video on youtube with them in a war with a neighbor (maybe KE?).

Pike at U of Illinois

Pretty amazing house, here... http://www.illinipikes.com/
Check out the "Capital Campaign" link, go to the "news and information" tab and then select "Pike House Design" to see the elevation & floorplans.

Five full stories of living space and over 31,000 square feet. There are a whopping 59 single bedrooms in the house. Notice there is no party room. I think we will be seeing more of this in the future of Greek chapter houses - more personal space & ammenities, less focus on big parties that have trashed many of our houses over the years.

Check out their website. The house looks amazing. I love the combination of red brick and natural stone - quite stately and elegant. Building on a hill makes for an interesting four story view including the basement, deck and exterior staircase.

I feel bad for these women, they are far short of their fundraising goal. Too late to turn back now. Good luck, AXO!

Does the house come with or without banjo players?

Phi357 06-24-2008 08:06 PM

Lol it definetely needs a lil work but since we lost our last house it will be nice to have somewhere to hang our hat. Its out of town so we wont be bothered by neighbors atleast.
