It's scary that Perez Hilton is doing more subtle and not as sensational reporting of this than TMZ. Perez Hilton is usually the more sensational of the 2 media outlets.

I think Mary Kate owns the building, rather than the apartment, but I'm not 100%.
|
in total disbelief
When I first read the news on AOL.com, I thought that it was a joke. But then I log onto my city's newspaper and is the leading headline.
What a talent, what a face...and so freaking young (only a year older than myself)... RIP |
I just saw TMZ's footage of authorities removing his body from the building.
DAMN. |
ok, wow. :(
I was surprised that he was only 28! So, so sad. |

ETA...well there is your 3 Renfro last week Pleshette and now Ledger.... |

I dunno. I'll believe it when the autopsy results come out. I believe it was either Perez or TMZ that had a photo from him on Saturday at the movie set doing a scene. Unless he wasn't sick on Saturday (which is highly unlikely...pneumonia doesn't just all the sudden affect you), there's no way he'd be ok enough to be at work. I've had walking pneumonia before - the name is deceiving. I was barely able to stand up without feeling like I was going to faint. I literally crawled off my couch a few times because I was too weak to stand up. Pneumonia is TERRIBLE.
|
I was watching a local Fox station. The Entertainment reporter indicated he had an interview with Ledger just a few weeks ago. Evidently, he was throwing everything into being a father to his new baby. Then came the break up.
I doubt it was pneumonia. |

I saw this on another board and I didn't believe it. My first reaction was holy shit, and now, two hours later, I still feel kind of shocked at the news. Everyone in my house (my housemates are not big gossip folk) is talking about it, as are all my friends. It's so sad, and I hope it wasn't an overdose, accidental or intentional, because that would make this whole thing even sadder. My heart goes out to his little girl, especially because I saw a quote of his saying that leaving her to go to work in the morning was the most difficult thing he'd ever done.
Rest in peace :( |

This pisses me off. He was so talented and one of my favorite actors, and I don't really have favorites. He was only a year older than me! I really hope the other young Hollywooders learn a lesson if this was an overdose... accidentally or intentional. And if they don't learn their lessons, than it's their own fault and deserve what they get.
RIP Heath. Damnit. |
I'm hoping it was accidental. He supposedly was having trouble sleeping since working on the Batman movie - it sounds like his Joker was really getting inside his head.
And Hollywood won't change its habits after this anymore than it did after River Phoenix died of an OD outside of Johnny Depp's club. |

This is how the Olsens were linked to Heath's death:
http://www.tmz.com/2008/01/22/how-he...as-discovered/ If you go back to the TMZ.com homepage, Heath's family contacted TMZ.com. According to them, he did not kill himself because "he wasn't that kind of person." |

"A Knight's Tale" is one of my favorite movies. Another great actor gone way too soon. R.I.P. :( |

RIP Heath. |
I saw the news tonight at my volunteer job. I kinda yelped and got laughed at. I cannot believe it. What is going on?
|
I was having such a good day (Oscar nods announced) until I heard (rather late :(). I was getting ready for an NPHC meeting when Brian Williams mentioned it on NBC Nightly News. I immediately starting flipping channels (CNN); I just couldn't believe it...still can't. I was just watching Brokeback the other day on HBO. Damn. :(
R.I.P. Heath, condolences to Matilda and the rest of his family. |

Well, I still get a little sad everytime I pass by The Viper Room. I'm really shocked and sad. I'm shocked that I'm so sad. I really liked him and thought he had alot of potential, especially after Brokeback Mountain. His performance was amazing. |
Young Hollywood needs to wake up, but sadly I don't think they will.

No I don't mean for this to be disrespectful. Someone made it, I saw it, so now I'm posting to share. |
They said that his breakup with Michelle was more of a sad one and that they talked everyday. I can't imagine what she is feeling right now. I think I'm more shocked about his death because he wasn't in the limelight, out partying hard every night. You never really heard about his life besides his movies and the very little we heard about his marriage. And I admire that he was very picky about his roles and didn't just choose some because of the money. He was a true actor who just wanted to act and he was amazing at it. Hollywood lost a good one today.
|
Well, He took one too many sleeping pills. He reported he had a ton of trouble sleeping since he started playing the joker, that was in the new york times like a month or two ago. He said he would take a sleeping pill and it didnt work, so he took another, and that didnt work. With his wife and baby going to oregon, and his trouble with this role, I can't blame him for having a lot of sleep trouble. I don't think we should chalk this up to another hollywood not learning their lesson case, i think it might just honestly be an accident. I am not sure, and its too soon to tell.

You DON'T know that for sure. Let's be honest and admit that we are all speculating based on info that seems to change as time goes on. Let's not accuse him of overdosing on sleeping pills until the experts in the case figure out why he died. Remember, some are saying he had pneumonia, too... Point is, who are we to sit back and judge this guy for the way he was living his life? We know nothing about the guy personally other than some reports from a couple of valid sources and oh, yeah --- TMZ. |

Read something before you criticize it, at the end I said "i don't know, and its too soon to tell." I was just addressing the people on here with the media jump that he was some drug addy. Saying, as far as we know (and at the end I said we dont really know) but as far as we can tell right now, he took one too many sleeping pills. I was presenting a simple, non-hollywood perspective I was basically saying the same thing you were. Its too soon to say anything for sure, and therefor you can't judge the guy. So, dont judge me! |
I teared up over this one. OTW, how appropriate.
How sad. |
I heard this last night on the news and my husband and I just stared at each other in disbelief.
Then I called my sister and, after barely saying hello, she was like "are you calling because you heard Heath Ledger died?" His death was just so sudden...he didn't seem to be "troubled." I feel really bad for his little girl. |
Yeah that Joker character is really intense and dark. Well "Batman: The Dark Knight" is definitely the more sinister of all the Batman movies. The graphic novel is insane.
Edited to add: I do not know why I keep reading about Michelle being his wife. There were still engaged when they separated last September. |

Saying someone overdosed on sleeping pills does not mean that you are saying it was an intentional overdose rather than an accidental overdose. Chill out, people. Celebrities and noncelebs combine medications, and take too many doses of a single medication, and accidentally die sometimes. It happens. Gerald Levert allegedly mixed medications or something to that effect.
We can not know his intent until there is further investigation--if it is ever known. There is no suicide note or suicide conservation that he had with someone that has been uncovered yet. **** The View's discussion was interesting. Whoopi was talking about her dark days. Every human being has dark days. Magnify that by the loneliness and whatever else of being a celebrity who is going through "regular people stuff" mixed with "celeb stuff." This doesn't mean that every sad and lonely nonceleb and celeb will consider and attempt suicide. Even if they do, a "successful suicide" is often a cry for help that accidentally resulted in death. Just things to consider because in suicidology we use a typology and find that there's nothing new under the sun, unfortunately. |

I thought I heard he was taking Ambien. If that's true, I'm fairly sure that, pharmaceutically, you can't die from an overdose of Ambien. Unless, of course, you combine it with other meds or alcohol.
But then again, Ambien realy messes with your head. I've had clients do all sorts of crazy things while taking it. He could have taken a couple Ambien, and done something "normal", but the combination was lethal. I'm withholding judgment until the final coroner's report. Yahoo mentions Ambien use, Heath's trouble sleeping. |
Fred Phelps is a major asswipe!

I feel the same way. I am saddened and, at the same time, surprised that this has touched me in this way (Celebrity deaths don't general upset me too much). But with this, I am like looking up old articles, watching old interviews...I guess looking for something that makes this make sense. I feel like, in some weird way, I grew up with this guy and I admired his talent. This is really tragic, whatever the circumstances. :( |

And this gets even worse...I hate to quote tmz.com (but I haven't found a link on MSNBC or CNN (although I have heard it on MSNBC).
There is speculation that illegal drugs have been found in his apartment, and are being tested by the NYPD. :( LINK |

And the search for an answer continues. I hope no one (i.e. fans, GCers, etc.) gets up in arms over these speculations and investigations. His family and friends are really the only ones who should be so emotionally invested in this search for an answer. You never 100% know what people do when they aren't around you or what they're capable of. All we know is that there are accidental and intentional deaths from substances. |
