Right now, I'm just in awe. I'm so honored to be a part of American history.
One hundred years ago, Ethel Hedgeman Lyle had the vision and foresight to establish this sorority, and all of the wonderful women who have followed in her footsteps have provided supreme service to all mankind as well as a strong, illustrious sisterhood. But just because we've reached this milestone, our work is not done. We must press on in our respective communities and continue to build on what our founders created on this marvelous day. This day has felt as surreal as the day that I finally got my pearls. My heart swells with happiness and pride to be apart of this momentous AKAsion, 100 years in the making. I've received so much love from Sorors, friends, family, and even strangers on the street. Sorors, let us continue to strive and do so that our beautiful sorority will see another 100 years.

100 years of supreme service for all mankind! HAPPY FOUNDERS DAY SORORS! "A Celebration of Merit & Culture" To the Lovely Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated: On JANUARY 15, 1908, a vision was realized. Today, 100 years later, we are able to celebrate that vision by becoming members of the first sorority created for and by African American women. We were chosen because we are college educated women of ability and character, known to exhibit class and style. I feel privileged to be linked to your history and I will always reverence AKA Forever and a Day. Sisterly, Soror Tanisha "Hearts that are loyal and hearts that are true" PS. My graduate chapter and the undergrads are going to walk and sing around campus in celebration of Alpha Kappa Alpha's 100th anniversary at 7:08pm. Then we are releasing balloons at the Pan Hal building. Afterwards, there is going to be a big reception. |

Why have I been teary eyed and emotional all day? As Freshman/Sophomore (Spring '01-Fall '02), I swore daily that I never thought I see the end. LOL But I did. and I've been so in love ever since. It sure don't seem like I've been a part of the finest Sorority for over 15 years. Unlike you young'uns, I can't remember chants. The ones I do remember... are not nice. :eek: LOL. Happy Founders' Day to my lovely Sorors. Like the ivy we are reaching upward everyday in everyway. We have stood strong as a sisterhood for 100 years. It is such a joy to be able to say I am a member of this illustrious organization. The Sorors I have met through the years, the community service projects, the conferences, the memories of what our great sisterhood has done is deep in my heart. Praise God for Alpha Kappa Alpha's stability and being able to celebrate 100 years of sisterhood.

it's snowing out here and it makes me think of what it may have looked like 100 yrs. ago today. a day where that dream turned into reality.
if i could, i would thank the Founders for working so hard to create such an illustrious Sisterhood. a Sisterhood that is living their dream today, 100 yrs. later. i'm so happy to be a member. a financial member. a member living my pledge. happy that my Soror mom, aunts, and cousins are here to see this day. Happy Centennial Founders' Day!
Happy Founders' Day to the lovely, elegant and vivacious ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. I've spent the last few days at Howard University, and spent yesterday at Moorland-Spingarn Research Center absorbing what I could about our impact on the nation.
The Pilgrimage was wonderful. Picture wave upon wave of beautiful women dressed in black coats with green scarves with pink lettering marching across the campus in silent tribute to our Founders and to the others who have gone on. I shed a few tears and I witnessed so much love and unity today and through the weekend. Our job is unfinished. May the beginning of our second century reinvigorate each of us as we continue to be supreme in service. So let my soul, like the Ivy be .... :) *Waving at Sorors BThompson and VReed* :D |

After reading all the posts, I think that everything has been said! Nevertheless, I must say Happy Founder's Day to all beautiful sisters. I met three great new Sorors today while out on a field trip with my students because I was wearing an AKA pin.

My undergrad and grad chapter (Lambda Kappa and Chi Pi Omega) held a candlelight vigil tonight. It was also a introduction back to campus! It was wonderful!! I know you could hear our Skee-Wee for miles!! S-K-Double E W-Double E, Skee-Wee my sorors, Skee-Wee!! |

Yesterday was phenomenal! Just to see Sorors….pink and green alllll over……AKA plates and Flags…….AKA on the radio….chants…....the phone calls........the text messages.......the UG Sorors that had a luncheon...…the hymn……my road dog who’s a Delta calling me attempting to sing “Alpha Kappa Alpha” in the hymn because that’s the only part she knows and because this is just a milestone in “greekdom” and in Black History as a whole…….was an experience I’ll never forget. I can honestly say, with MUCH reverence and NO regrets, I think that I shall never know, another love that thrills me so! If you didn’t feel the spirit yesterday, then something is wrong.
Sorors, I hope you, reflected on our founders and their struggle as being black women in the early 1900s, on putting petty things aside, on being the best Soror that you can be, and attending Boule` if possible. For Founders' Day I...
Contacted several sorors, whom I had not spoken to in a while, to extend a bit of sisterly love and wishes for a wonderful day.
I attended a mid-day celebration; we sang the hymn and a couple of other songs. A soror gave a recitation and balloons were released. I went to a mixer last night. I made a reservation. ;) All and all, it was a beautiful day, and the celebration continues. :D |
