Can I come? That sounds like fun! I used to do this in high school and my friends and I would make crowns out of Tostitos bags.

Name of the drink--how about the Boardwalk Bomb, in honor of the home of the Miss America Pageant for so many years, or the Crown Cranberry Fizz?

Miss Missouri is a Pi Beta Phi

She goes to the University of Missouri

I think you've got your information incorrect. According to her profile on the Miss America Web site, she goes/went to Penn.

SoCalGirl 01-26-2008 04:30 PM

Jen, you must have Missouri confused with another state.

Miss Missouri is a Sigma Kappa from Penn. :D

Tippiechick 01-26-2008 09:49 PM

Yay! I love my Ole Miss girls (TN and AK), Mississippi, CA, Utah, Texas, Georgia, and Washington.

Let's hope they make the final 10.

Shiznit-- TN, AK, MS, UT ALL GONE!

Well, at least I have the rest of my faves.

a.e.B.O.T. 01-26-2008 09:59 PM

Ok, Miss Washington and Virginia are still in the game so yeah! Washington's "how bout them apples" was great as well as her swim wear walk, but she was one of two girls who didnt do the push up salute, and that could not look favorable on the judges side. Miss Virginia is just gorgeous. I am sad miss SC got the boot, but the only bases was the swim wear, and well, she had a big cellulite booty. I think its amusing how this Miss America is all about change, but the like porned up the swimsuit comp!

After watching Reality check, Im really curious about Miss Congeniality. Do they do that in this one, or is that just Miss USA? Well, if they do, Miss Utah, Washington and Alaska seem like they are the ones up for it.

Evening gown:

Miss Virginia was hot!
Miss Washington was a little to conservative and old looking.
Miss Iowa's face was like frozen, she kind of looks like Jessica Rabbit from the dress to the hair
Miss California chose a good dress, it was good
Miss Michigan's dress was AWFUL, especially with all that see-through crap. Kind of slutty
Miss Texas looked like an easter egg, the colors dont go well
Miss Wisconsin looked HOT! The dress made her look taller
Miss Georgia did not choose a dress that really stood out
Miss Indiana's gown was interesting, too bad the judges wont know she made it herself
Miss North Carolina's dress was nice, except that black waist band, it looked like a back brace

GeekyPenguin 01-26-2008 10:21 PM

Miss Wisconsin is an SAI.

a.e.B.O.T. 01-26-2008 10:22 PM

Talent

Miss Michigan- Somewhere over the rainbow: Interesting and stereotypical song. Good voice, but not professional. Here dress is funky, but not terrible. She goes for the dramatizing which I dont know how well that will fly. She is an opera singer, you can tell. Goes off pitch a couple times.

Miss California- The Jewel Song- She sings opera, it sounds great and professional, a little too over dramatic but appropriate for opera. Fun spunky and sophisticated, good job. Definitely high marks.

Miss Indiana- Vandertto (sp)- a hispanic song. strong voice, a lot of fun spunky with appropriate and very pretty dress. Kind of under-shadowed by previous performance as well as third singing talent in a row

Miss Virginia- Ballet. Caught holding her skirt up high on camera. Her dress looks like a cancan dancer but her baller is fun. She doesn't not stick her movements as solid as she should but the performance is interesting.

---Eliminated: Miss Iowa, she takes her batons and walks to the other side of the stage, but still gets some baton in when she is interviewed.

Commercial, four more girls to perform, one more eliminated

nittanyalum 01-26-2008 10:28 PM

^^^Ok, I don't have it on, but now I don't need to -- how much do I love that I'm getting IRT updates from a fraternity guy?!? Keep it up, please, this is fascinating, my Mom and Grandmom used to sit on the phone and do the exact same thing. I LOVE IT!!!! :) :)

a.e.B.O.T. 01-26-2008 10:37 PM

Back to talent:

Miss Washington- Angles- good voice, but probably not as good as Miss Cali, but excellent song choice, powerful uplifting and relatable. Best stage presence so far. Good overall, but not the best so far.

Miss Texas- Jazz Ballet- Fun spunky music. Stands and jumps on her toes. Fun dancing but no where as strong as a dancer as Virginia. Kind of slow for a jazz ballet. Funny. It seems her only talent is she can stand on her toes and kick over her head.

Miss Wisconsin- Voilin- Good and spunky which seems to be a trend. Her dress is kind of bad, but she is showing some strong movement out of that violin, but her tone is not solid, kind of too screechy.

Miss North c got the boot leaving...

Miss Georgia- Ballet- Riverdance type music, very hoppy but regal. Her kicks were awful, but her movement was very smooth and gracful

nittanyalum 01-26-2008 10:41 PM

Your descriptions are killing me. "spunky which seems to be a trend" had me LOLing. So did "hoppy".

I'm pulling for WI based on this write-up, hope the screechy doesn't hurt her...

a.e.B.O.T. 01-26-2008 10:49 PM

Alright Question

What could you do to prove Miss A's Image?
Wisconsin- Love for America, Educating children, Community service, spread the messege

STD carriers are obligated to tell their fiancee
Michigan- Yes, its about respect to keep the marriage together

Celebrities promoting religion
Virginia- Free to voice opinions, they are human

Lack of Young Voters
Washington- Disconnect between young people and voters, encourage programs like rock the vote

How can people be famous without doing anything
California- Too much materialism... Miss A is trying to add class and character

Binge Drinking for kids
Texas- Bad example like Lohan dont get punished, you dont have to be like celebrities

What should America do to get on track
North Carolina- Bad media coverage of not positive celebrities. Miss A is a role model here to make a difference

Should Jamie-Lynn be fired
Miss Indiana- No she is a human, she made a mistake but that doesnt make her a bad person

WOW I had to type that fast. I think Miss INdiana stumbled a lot. Miss Washington had the best presence but answer was kind of weak. NC did not really have a original thought, very pageanty answer. California sounded smart and sophisticated, but i think Virginia won that round

a.e.B.O.T. 01-26-2008 10:52 PM

This is all way too close to call. I think NC Indiana and Michigan were are kind of lacking but i dont know what is going on in the judge's heads.

Still rooting for Virginia and Washington, but I don't think the latter will get it. Texas has gone strong

preciousjeni 01-26-2008 10:57 PM

This show seems to be going by so quickly! Awww! Good job, Michigan!

a.e.B.O.T. 01-26-2008 10:59 PM

OH HERE WE GO, who will it be

First, the final act of Lauren Nelson, Miss America 2007. She liked working with the children as a Goodwill Miracle Network ambassador. Blah Blah Blah, lets get to the final. She just keeps walking back and forth.

4th Runner up- North Carolina- Jessica Jacobs
3rd Runner up- Virgina- Hannah Something lol (SO HOT)
2nd Runner up- Washington- Elise Humamoto
1st Runner up- Indiana- Nicole Elizabeth Rash
Miss America 2008- Michigan- Kristen Higgle (sp)

TOTALLY didn't see that coming, i thought she sucked all the way. Total Barbie

SWTXBelle 01-26-2008 11:00 PM

Am I the only one going "WTH?" - didn't think her talent was very outstanding, and I HATE that tacky dress. Oh well . . .

a.e.B.O.T. 01-26-2008 11:01 PM

Funny, I love the girls who got 2nd 3rd and 4th, just not the girl who won... must of slept with the judges or something, lol, jk, but probs true

AGDee 01-26-2008 11:14 PM

Way to go Miss Michigan, even if I didn't think she was the most talented. I did like her dress, unlike the review from above. The Reality judges had a lot of positive things to say about her (how much they loved her) even though they didn't put her in their top 10.

LeslieAGD 01-27-2008 12:02 AM

In the Top 8, my favorites were Indiana, Washington, Virginia, and Michigan (home state bias)...so of course I was very happy to see that they were voted the top four ladies.

I am a little surprised that Michigan won, to be honest, but I think she did best in swim suit and had a very strong answer in the question round. Her evening gown was definitely "modern" but a little over the top in my opinion, and I thought she was one of the weaker singers.

I really believed Washington was going to be in the top spot.

ZTAMich 01-27-2008 02:08 AM

Miss Michigan went to a HS near where my husband went. Small world. He thought she was awesome. Me? Not so much!! Poor thing went first for talent and she wasn't as good as those that followed her. At 19, I thought her dress was a little much for her, even in a pageant.

I loved when a host (ah I can't remember who!) was backstage with some ladies who did not continue on and he asked "So what's it like to be out there in a bathing suit & high heels?" and Miss CT (I think) said "Well I don't know I'm sitting here with you!" Too funny.

SoCalGirl 01-27-2008 03:28 AM

What was up with the host? He kept stumbling over his words.

LPIDelta 01-27-2008 11:08 AM

Hmmm...I feel bad that every time Miss Michigan will look at her crowning photos, she'll be wearing that ugly, ill-fitting dress. That was like the dress that won Miss USA like two or three years ago--to me, that is no longer a modern look. I also wish that someone older than 19 would have won, but I guess they are trying to make the pageant "younger" so it makes sense. But, Miss Michigan nailed the question, so I am sure that won it for her.

It was interesting that Miss Indiana was in the "Always a Bridesmaid" group, and she was first runner up! I really do think she or Miss Washington should have been the winner. Of course, I was rooting for Wisconsin too, who seemed so real.

Of course, I think the judges got it wrong from the beginning because they didn't chose Utah to continue. If she would have won, that would have definitely changed the image of the pageant!

ZTAngel 01-27-2008 11:55 AM

Miss Michigan's voice hurt my ears. :( I read that she wants to become a Broadway star and I was like, "Noooooo!!!!!!!!" Miss California had a pretty good voice. Not as strong as one of the Miss America's from a few years ago. Katie Harman maybe? I remember being blown away by her voice.

cutiepatootie 01-27-2008 11:56 AM

I am not being bias here because i am from California , but I really thought Miss California did a better showing than Miss Michgan. Of course Miss Michigan had a better answer on her q & a portion ,but her talent seemed a bit off ( though i love that song). Miss California ,Well let me say, i would LOVE to look like her in a bathing suit. I thought she was the one who blew everyone away in bathing suit. Killer Abs!

I didn't care for Miss Utah at all.

Unregistered- 01-27-2008 02:27 PM

Naturally the boy's ecstatic that Miss Michigan won.

I absolutely loved Miss Washington. If not the top spot, surely she should have done better than Miss Indiana. I didn't care too much for Miss Washington in Episode 1 of Reality Check, but she grew on me...and I really really wanted her to win. She did great, though. How you like them apples? LOL

LegallyBrunette 01-27-2008 02:45 PM

I completely forgot to watch the pageant after avidly following "Reality Check." Thanks for all the updates on here a.e.B.O.T.!

BabyPiNK_FL 01-27-2008 02:52 PM

I was never so glad to see a Miss Florida go! Not cute.

I would have bet money on Miss Wisconsin. I loved her so much and it's not her fault that the violin wasn't pitch perfect...remember that they did talent at random, which isn't right because people really do need time to keep their instruments (vocal, body, or actual) warmed up. Her dress was amazing and she just did it for me.

Am I the only person not happy that they were calling out girls who DIDN'T make it?! That's disrespectful in my opinion-like-"Hey! Look at this loser over here as she walks away trying not to cry! And now I'm going to hand her a doughnut and be like oh now you can let yourself go and force her to laugh while I rub salt in her wounds with inappropriate jokes!"

Michigan looks like she has really thin hair. Not a good look, plus it was another blonde...her version of "Over The Rainbow" aimed and missed the rainbow and landed on the ground. A lot of these "talents" seemed like they were put together just for the sake of a pageant.

ETA: the girl who did that whack jazz performance made me want to shoot myself. Smiling and kicking is not a talent, show your true abilities as a dancer and not just the cute bits you picked up in time for the competition. And the song didn't help.

Unregistered- 01-27-2008 02:57 PM

I forgot to ask in my previous post...

What did you guys think of the telecast? I could have done without "Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino" 92308423478612 times, but the program as a whole drew my attention for the whole 2 hours.

I like that it's only 2 hours now. I know MA telecasts of years past dragged on to three, and that's just too much. The manner in which the contestants were eliminated were also pretty neat. I guess I'm kind of indifferent to the swimsuit phase. I know they were trying to stay away from the robotic swimsuit walk, but I suppose it wasn't that bad. Talent was my favorite. The girls didn't know which order they'll be performing and at the same time didn't know if they've been eliminated. I LOL-ed when Georgia was kicked off.

Before we knew it, the two hours was up and a new Miss America was crowned. I really do hope they keep this same format (Reality Check included) next year.

I agree. Held my interest the whole time and I really enjoyed learning more about some of the women during the Reality Check program (although I think they could have spread the love a little more...it seemed like once they picked their 10 or so ladies, those were the only ones we learned anything about).

All told, I hope it was successful for the pageant. Interestingly, CMT showed last year's pageant this morning....and now TLC is replaying last night's pageant again.

a.e.B.O.T. 01-27-2008 03:33 PM

I think Miss America was nice and short, it was a good length, but it was all too rushed. Especially during the question section. It didn't give people enough time to perform and truly answer. I feel they should of cut some of the Clinton time to fix that, but whatever. I think Miss michigan won because of high marks on the swimsuit side. Then she sang first which gave her a boost in regards to, she didnt have to be the 10th person to sing in a row. I really wanted Miss Washington, and I thought that she would of really been this new change for them. I still love her opener, "how bout them apples." I wasn't the biggest fan of Miss Utah, because she made it all too much a joke. She didn't take it seriously. Now, other girls were funny and goofy, but they genuinely wanted to be there, or atleast made it seem that way. Miss Utah didn't. I still think Miss Virginia is like freaking HOT!!!

UofISigKap 01-27-2008 03:38 PM

I just figured it out! Miss Indiana looked so familiar to me and I couldn't figure out why. For Days of Our Lives fans...doesn't she look like the girl who played Chloe?

Fleur de Lis 01-27-2008 04:50 PM

My friends and I were SHOCKED that Miss Michigan won. She's definitely cute, but they said at the beginning "everyone will be scored by what happens from now on." Ugly dress, bad singing, I just don't get it. I was impressed by Indiana, California, and Washington's talents, and I thought Miss Wisconsin should win just because her talent was amazing (and went to Vanderbilt! Gave me someone new to cheer for when Miss Tennessee was eliminated) I really was rooting for Washington because I thought she could give Miss America a new image - Miss Michigan is just more of the same to me.

SWTXBelle 01-27-2008 06:24 PM

I thought Miss Washington was worthy - and would have been a real departure from the "Barbie" mold. I hated Miss Texas' formal gown (what is WITH those colours?!) and her talent was just this side of weird. Is it pointe, or jazz? Make up your mind!

momofpnm 01-27-2008 06:35 PM

I completely agree, SWTxBelle, and I hated her opening line about cows...cows?! Way to reinforce the stereotype...Miss Michigan was pretty but she looked most like a Barbie out of the finalists, ironic given the "new" image. I did like the shorter length and I think they should limit the time on the - er, "talent" portion even more. I wonder how their ratings came out.

PeppyGPhiB 01-27-2008 09:04 PM

My thoughts on the whole shebang:

- For once, I LOVED Miss Washington and all the attention she got. Our state never sends Barbie to these pageants, so our girls never make it through the first cut usually. I really thought she had a chance at winning, and even though she didn't, I'm happy she at least got third place.

- I didn't care for Michigan that much, but I thought she had a GREAT answer to her interview question. I do think her question was EASY (can you imagine anyone saying "No, I don't think someone with AIDS has an obligation to tell his/her spouse"?), but she gave a confident, positive, concise answer.

- I thought it was BAD that Lindsey Lohan was actually called out twice in the same question/answer for her alcoholism and recent troubles. Yes, she's a public figure, but I thought it was classless to call out someone as a specific example of who not to look up to.

- Regarding the girls doing ballet, I actually thought North Carolina had by far the best technique. Ballet isn't really about "kicks," as much as it is about control and beautiful lines. Virginia's legs appeared a little weak during her performance, and texas' jazz on pointe really didn't demonstrate ballet skill at all, although you can tell she's probably a good dancer. North Carolina was most reminiscent of a pro dancer - slow, but very controlled, graceful movements and she was more confident on her feet (surprised her shoes weren't more worked-in, though).

- I loved the intros they had all the contestants do in the opener. It showed that some of the women had great senses of humor.

- I found the whole telecast to be HORRIBLE. It was completely disorganized. The host missed cues and kept misspeaking, the teleprompter was obviously not moving fast enough, the cameras weren't doing close-ups on the contestants when they should've been (the cameras didn't seem to be in the right place at the right time), the contestants were caught prior to the talent portion beginning doing things like stretching and adjusting their costumes ON STAGE. I think TLC was way out of its league.

- I also thought it was dreadful that they kicked off girls throughout rather than announcing who would be moving on. Why turn it into something negative and give the audience reason to say, "Awwwwwwwww" or "Booooooooooooooooo" instead of applauding the ladies that were moving one step closer to the crown. They clearly wanted to copy reality shows of today with that "rub the salt in the wound" move, which is tacky and classless. This is Miss America, not Survivor!

ISUKappa 01-27-2008 09:11 PM

I'm glad we TiVo'ed it; I fast forwarded through most of the intros and the questions.

I thought Miss Washington did well, but was weak in talent. And I was so bored by all the singing. Blah. I was kind of bummed Miss Iowa got cut during the talent portion because I did want to see her baton act, as cheesy as it may seem. Both the husband and I were kind of WTF about Miss Michigan winning.

bejazd 01-27-2008 09:20 PM

I loved Miss Washington too. She was my favorite by far!

Was it just me or did Miss California look like she was 40? And opera? Ugh. Maybe someday we'll see a Miss CA who does extreme skateboarding as her talent! THAT would be modern! CA, Michigan and Miss Texas seemed like everything they were trying NOT to perpetuate as Miss America yet they ended up in the last bunch anyway. Michigan looked great in her bikini and the evening dress but I wasn't expecting her to win at all!

On the questions I thought the most dissapointing answer was the one on binge drinking. The part of about the importance of providing positive things for kids to do, so they are not out there doing negative things i.e. underage drinking, never made it into the answer.
