Why is it that new or different sororities always have to reference what "other orgs" do or don't do when describing their sorority?

That annoys me.

Ok, back to my lane now.

Because that's the ONLY reason they were founded. :)

ETA: This is everyone's lane.

I wonder how many will be rallied here to support the cause of Delta Sigma Nu. :giggle:

Well just an update: It does work, many women appreciate the fact that they are now apart of something. Many of your organizations have been around for over 100 years and some of these women missed the opportunity to experience what it is like to be apart of a sisterhood and others opted to decline due to hazing and some of the attitudes of the members. Your organizations have done many great things over the years and we respect that, so why not respect the fact that we are on our own journey with our own traditions and our own goals. We are a unique organization and yes we do meet and we are bonded. We are based online however we have real relationships. We are not avatars. We have the full support of the Art Institute so we know who qualifies academically to be apart of our organization. The quote that was mentioned on Do Something.com was not to discredit any of you it was meant exactly how it was written. We help organizations that most greek organizations do not. This means we try to find charities that do not already have the support of another greek organization. We chose to start this organization to make the online learning experience more enriching and fullfilling. It takes a lot of discipline to go to college online so having something that makes it easier is worth it. We are women who are trying to fullfill our dreams and goals so we support each other in our academic as well as personal lives.....so we appologize if this is a problem for any of you.

And, while you're at it, you "borrow" from other organizations?

Delta Sigma Nu Mission Statement

To promote leadership, multiculturalism, and self-improvement through academic excellence, innovation in servicing our local communities and enhancing the online and ground learning experience through collaboration and a strong cohesive sisterhood.

Theta Nu Xi Mission Statement

To promote leadership, multiculturalism, and self-improvement through academic excellence, involvement in and service to the campus and community, as well as being living examples of sisterhood across different races, cultures, religions, backgrounds, and lifestyles.

Delta Sigma Nu Motto

Our Cultures Are Our Pride, We Are Women of Diversity

Sigma Lambda Gamma Motto

Culture is Pride, Pride is Success

Don't worry though, I'm sure you'll be hearing from these organizations' lawyers.

Also, I find it interesting that you're a 501(c)3. Hmmmm...

ooooooh snap!

hehehehe

As an aside, I don't understand the whole "online" GLO thing. While you may have some sort of connection to them, you don't *really* know them. And I don't understand how you can really form lasting friendships using online means only.

You don't have those "remember that time when..." memories that you get from spending time together (unless it's something like "Remember that time when CuteBaby123 posted that joke! OMG! It was so funny!")

knight_shadow 05-31-2009 03:48 PM

All that preaching that Miss Passion is doing, and I still don't know what this organization does. I know what the colors are, where they were founded, and how to pledge. Apparently, that's all that's necessary to sustain a GLO.

If they are apart from it then how are they getting the benefits?? I don't understand.:confused:

Aren't the colours similar to Theta Nu Xi's as well?

Miss Passion 05-31-2009 06:17 PM

What I really don't understand is why such a negative outlook on something positive. We are a new organization and instead of educating us you all are bashing us for wanting something.....why??

knight_shadow 05-31-2009 06:21 PM

Why is it necessary for you to seek validation from faceless usernames? If you're already doing positive things (they're not being communicated on your site, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt), why do you need us to educate you?

LatinaAlumna 05-31-2009 09:14 PM

Oh my goodness, that "Gamma Chi" thing was just....

I never opened any of those threads at the time, and I'm glad I didn't!!!

Miss Passion 05-31-2009 09:15 PM

I said educate us because you all seem to have such strong feelings and I don't know why. I feel like this: If we are somehow operating in a manner that would be offensive to your organizations then why don't you all communicate that to us in a way that is less defensive. I feel like the mocking and joking is a juvenile way to communicate considering the fact that you don't know anything about any of us. We haven't been around long enough to be judged so harshly.

I don't think anyone is mocking you, they're just pointing out that part of your purpose is taken verbatim from another organization. I wold think that you'd want to know that, so you can change it, and avoid possible legal action.

Miss Passion 05-31-2009 09:28 PM

That is actually the first time I've seen that and it is definately being investigated...as we speek. The person who "created" that is being contacted. The last thing we intended was to be viewed negatively in the sight of anyone.

How long does an organization need to be around before it can be openly ridiculed?

All jokes aside -- Part of your forming a new organization is doing research. You all should have figured out what's "offensive" prior to forming the organization.

Miss Passion 05-31-2009 09:41 PM

I agree...

Xidelt 06-01-2009 01:45 AM

How exactly does an online chapter work? How do you attract new members? Do officers meet in real life to discuss sorority business? Do sisters have regular social events or do they just form friendships on myspace and meet up once in a while? What about initiation?

Seriously inexcusable... You ARE on online organization; no member should be without internet access, right? Research should be relatively easy...

Man, even I remember Gamma Chi. :p :o
