Hey Car-
\Yes, once I went off the tricyclen my face cleared right back up. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
GL at the doctor!

CRMSNTiDEGRL717 06-22-2001 06:54 PM

this is off the subject but oh well. i bet guys ARE reading this, BUT they just aren't posting. what do you all think?

newbie 06-23-2001 01:40 AM

LOL Liz. I do think that guys are reading this, too, but i bet you that the majority couldn't stomach it after a few lines...LOL. Props to those who can stomach this so far, though, that's great!!!

Ok, well here's the deal--I went to the doctor today (as you al know lol). WELL, I ended up getting all these allergy medicines (supposedly I have a really BAD case of allergies) and also some stuff for the bad cramps. But, immediately after taking the medicine, I zonked out!! (Allergy medicine) The dr. only prescribed Motrin for the bad cramps http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. I asked him about Ortho Tricyclen (MUCH TO MY DAD"S DISMAY http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/eek.gif ) LOL. But the dr. said he wanted to start me off with 2 Motrins/cramp, and see if I feel better. If no luck--he will prescrie the birth control pills in the future. He just said he didn't want to do it now b/c of the side effects, which he felt outweighed the positives for my body. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

So no Ortho Tricyclen http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. BUT...on to other things http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif! Tampons!!!!! I got them today!!! Playtex Slimfits!!! LOL, I'm so happy that you guys introduced me to tampons...I can't even believe that I managed to wear pads my whole life!!! LOLLOLOLOL. It hurt at first (b/c I was sooo scared), but it went in like a dream after a few minutes http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif!!!!!

Thank you guys SOOOO very much http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif!!!! YOU GIRLS ARE THE BEST...what a wonderful support group we all have, LOL!!

Oh, also...how about we keep this thread alive in the future, so any womanly troubles (lol) that we have, we can all discuss!!!

Yes, we should keep it alive. I was thinking about how I really don't discuss this stuff with my female friends, when I really want to. I don't have too many female friends, and there's a certain limit as to what you can discuss with male friends.

As for the BCP thing...I did Mircette for a while...which I loved...except I would get horribly depressed during the last 5 days. The doctor switched it to Alesse, which is good. I heard Ortho can make people gain weight.

newbie 06-23-2001 02:39 AM

Hey AlphaChiGirl!!

Yes, that's right! My doctor told me that Ortho TriCyclen can make a person gain weight. Also--he just said that it has many dangers and risks http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. so he said that he wants me to start off low, and if no improvements--then he'll see about the Pill.

Also, yes, all my really good friends that are female are away right now http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. A couple of them are at cheerleading camp, one's in Spain, and a few others are at volleyball camp!! So this is a great place to get info http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif.

I was wondering, is it supposed to hurt when you take a tampon out? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif I took it out, and it kinda hurt http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif.

newbie--- if you didn't bleed a lot, then the tampon might of hurt b/c it was dry. GEEZ that sounds SO gross http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif But anyways, that might be why it hurt. it's happened to me a few times. glad to hear everything went well!!

newbie 06-24-2001 07:52 PM

Thanks so much Liz, the Playtex Slimfits are awesome!!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

bucutie02 06-25-2001 03:31 PM

I am lovin this topic!

Okay well i used get really really bad cramps as well. They were so bad that i couldnt move or it would hurt more. I couldnt go to school or work, and sometimes i would even throw up. I would be freezing all day long and was never even hungry. I would cry and cry because i was in so much pain. Well finally, i went to the doctor and she just said to take aleve about 2 days before i get my period. Well that helped a little bit but it was still bad! So, now I am on Alesse 28 which is really low dosage. It has helped with my cramps a lot. Now i can actually go to school and work- and be normal! Although i do get some cramps a couple of days before i get my period and thats when i take aleve.

Okay well now i have a question... I am going to cancun the last week in July (yay!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif) but i am supposed to get my period the day we leave to cancun. Even though i dont get cramps anymore i dont want to have that to deal with, so is it true that if you dont take the "sugar pills" and instead start a new pack of pills you wont get your period? I know some people told me that it works, but does it on everyone? Is it safe? Sorry for the questions but i dont want to do anything thats not good for my body.

Okay, this is what I've heard. Because I was curious about the same thing. A friend of mine, at certain times, skips her week off pills and just starts a new pack, thereby avoiding getting her period. Her doctor told her that it was ok. I've been tempted to do it many times but never have. My guess is it's technically ok as long as you don't do it month after month. I also have a feeling it depends on how high an estrogen level is in your pill. If you're on a high estrogen pill, I'd be a bit more tentative to take it non-stop.

I'd ask your doctor forsure, but I know it has been done.

I too must bond!

Let me tell ya..I used to have to miss a whole week of school because of cramps and throwing up, dehydration, etc. and I totally am glad to hear that you went to the dr. as mine is kinda serious and he has me on a prescription intstead of the pill (like I thought he would do when I originally went in) but glad to hear that you are ok..and to all the gals..love the topic as I too am not a tampon user and am scared!

AlphaSigLana 06-26-2001 09:51 PM

I like the satin tampons. I switch around with pads too, but I am always afraid of someone grabbing my butt and feeling my pad-yuck and embarressing. The pill helped a little for cramps, but I have had 2 brands in 5 years and my period never follows the colors. SOmetimes I have my period for 2 wks straight, everyother day the skips the sugar pill week, only 2 days etc- it is messed up. If only we women never had to deal with this stuff.

Hi Sarah!! Tampons are wonderful http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif!!! they do not hurt at all (well, they hurt a teensy bit sometimes, but it's SO worth it!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif). Awww, I'm so sorry that you suffer so much during the time of the month http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. Is the prescription helping ya?

Lots-a-Heart 06-28-2001 03:41 PM

Newbie -
Thanks! Maybe I'll go to the store later to pick some up!
The prescription does help, but unfortunatly I need to have some tests, etc. to see if there is a major problem like empo- someone said it earlier and I can't spell it! How are you doing?
~Sarah

SSS1365 06-28-2001 04:26 PM

Ok, I'm on Alesse... have been for almost two years. It's the weakest birth control pill, but it was effective in eliminating my cramps. Recently, though, I have been getting cramps again. They get a little worse every month, and I'm afraid that soon they'll get back to the scale they were on before I went on the pill. Does anyone know if switching to a stronger pill will help?

If you do pick them up, Sarah, get the Playtex Slimfits http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. I really like those - really easy to get in http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. Aww, I really hope you don't have that problem http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. Hopefully your cramps, nausea, etc. will ease up!!!! I am doing much better, thank you!! How are you? Unfortunately - I'm on lots of medications for my allergies, lol. So I'm pretty drowsy lately!

newbie 06-28-2001 04:47 PM

SSS- I'm definitely not an expert on the pill, but maybe your body has gotten "used" to ALesse? (Like, it's no longer effective b/c you've been using it for so long?)

Maybe if you switch pills every so often it will be better?? Anyway, I hope your cramps get a LOT better soon!!!!! I would go to the dr. as soon as possible!

bucutie02 06-30-2001 06:10 PM

Well i went to Walgreens to pick my pills, Alesse 28, and the lady told me that they have a generic brand and gave me that instead. I was a little upset because she should have asked me, and i would have told her to keep me on Alesse, but she also said they have the same active ingredient. So anyways we'll see how it goes, plus this is the month where i wont be getting my period because of my vacation. I hope everything works out okay.

crazyleggedsigma 06-30-2001 08:46 PM

Here's my 2 cents!

I discovered this completely by accident in Jr. High, but it is unfortunately difficult for those of us in dorm/house situations. Do you have access to a cat? Yes, I said a cat! Prop yourself up on a bed or couch with some pillows, and plunk Fluffy over your belly button and pet him/her till the purring begins. I think it's a combonation of the warmth, vibrations (sorta like a massage), and the actual distaction provided by the petting.

I, too, SWEAR by Aleve! The wonder drug! I take two as soon as Antie Flo shows up and then 1 every 10 hours after that (I never go above the reccomended dosage on medications-don't want to pickle my liver!).

Also-to whoever freaked out about the generic prescription--pharmacists can't legally substitute them unless they have been proven by the FDA to be EXACTLY the same chemical formulation and work EXACTLY the same as the name-brand ones. Kinda like buying red-and-white saltines instead of Keebler-no harm done!

"...When satan came from down below, he said with starry eyes, "There's only one thing wrong with hell-there are no Sigma Tri's!"

newbie 07-02-2001 04:32 PM

Crazyleggedsigma - unfortunately, I have no access to a cat http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif. My allergies are so bad that I can't have one!!! Sad, huh? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif
Thanks though for all the advice http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif.

Bucutie - I wouldn't worry too much about the generic vs. the kind that you normally buy, for the same reasons that Crazyleggedsigma stated!!

bucutie02 07-02-2001 10:58 PM

newbie.... could you email me your email. I dont ever go into my inbox because my computer is messed up, so i dont have access to it. so, i can only receive new emails and check those from my parents computer. My cramps just begin to get bad after I started college, but this past year has been THE WORST. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif Right now it feels like The Battle of Gettyburg is occurring in my stomach (like sharp pains and "rumbling & twirling")!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif It hurts SOOOOO BAD!! I am very anemic so maybe that could be why...What else could be associated with bad cramps? What can I do to make them better (before, during, & after my cycle)?

BuCutie02, I have been on the Pill since my junior year in HS. I HATE my period, and always have, and i am the QUEEN of skipping the sugar pills and going straight to a new pack. i dont do it every month but if I am going on vacation/ have a formal etc. during a sugar pill week - FORGET having my period. Honestly, I have never had a problem.

Thanx, Newbie!! I feel a bit better now. I took some Aleve and it started to feel a little better. Like, I can sit up now without being in pain. If I knew it was coming (I'm at home for the summer instead of at school), then I would've started taking them earlier. WHATEVA!! It's not fair!! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif

BTW, I hope I have an okay 4th, but I'll probably stay home and chill with my "Enemy" http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif
