Me too. I'll just head out to Barnes & Noble tomorrow and if they run out, then i'll just wait until tuesday when Sam's Club releases their new books to see if they'll have it. (although i should have asked when I was there today! lol)

AGDee 08-01-2008 10:33 PM

<sigh> My daughter (teenagers! grrr) insisted on having the book pre-ordered and I agreed since I like them too. She informed me on Wednesday that she was going camping with the church youth group but they're only camping 30 minutes away so they were all going to go to the release party at Borders so I should pick her up a bracelet and meet her there tonight. So I pick up the bracelet on the way home from work and call her to tell her that she's number 34 (with Harry Potter, I picked up the bracelet around the same time and we were in the 250-300 group) and she tells me that they can't come because the campground won't allow people in after a certain time. So now I have the bracelet, am entered in a raffle, and will be going to pick up this book at midnight *without the kid* I'm tired, I've been up since 5:30. But, I picked up the bracelet and entered the dang raffle! It definitely isn't going to be as crazy as Harry Potter. And, at least I'm number 34. The very big plus??? I get to read the book first since she won't be home til Sunday! Woooooooohooooo!

DoctorD 08-01-2008 11:04 PM

I've been writing all day, and am now grading papers, and am so thankful I didn't try to reserve the book somewhere to pick it up tonight. I'll swing by the "small" tomorrow and hopefully get it at the local bookstore. And if not, I'll find it before the weekend is out.

Looking forward to reading it, though... eventually! :)

AGDee 08-02-2008 01:02 AM

I got the book at 00:08! It's 754 pages! I'm not going to read til tomorrow though.

amycat412 08-02-2008 01:43 AM

I am SO EXCITED! BN is opening at 8am and I will be there!

WinniBug 08-02-2008 07:53 AM

So I couldn't make myself stay up long enough to go to Borders at midnight!
lol
I'm such a loser...

epchick 08-02-2008 05:30 PM

Ok, so call me crazy, but I think that if a book comes out, a bookstore should have book AVAILABLE!!!

I went to B&N like 20 minutes ago, and apparently they have a sufficient amount of copies, but they are only allowing the people who reserved books to buy one. WTF? So because I didn't reserve a copy I have wait AT LEAST 2 weeks to even try and see if they have books.

Yet when I inquired about reserving a copy last night, I couldn't!!! They told me to just get it today when it came out. Uh yeah thanks for the misinformation.

Shouldn't this be a "first come, first serve" type thing. I can see reserving a copy for the whole midnight shenanigans that they had, but shiiit I should be able to buy the book if they have a copy in the store!

So, I told myself I wasn't going to go look for the book, but curiousity got the best of me. My mom told me she saw the book @ the Kmart she was at...so I went to the Kmart by my house. No luck, so I just gave in and went to Walmart, where they had plenty.

All I have to say is OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG, I can't wait for you all to finish the book b/c I wanna talk about it.........like NOW!!! haha

I KNOW!!!!!

AGDee 08-03-2008 09:16 AM

So, I went to the midnight thing at Borders and got there at 11:30. There were lots of kids my daughter's screaming very loudly so I had to see what was going on. It was a costume contest.. very good costumes, I must say! There was an Alice who was PERFECT for Alice. Anyway, I got the book at 00:08 and took a picture of it to text to my daughter. I had car work to get done yesterday morning so I took the book with me to the tire place. My daughter called just as I started reading it to find out what page I was on. I said "Page 4". She says "Page 4??? If you're not done with it by the time I get home I get to read it anyway!" I assured her I would be finished. She called 3 more times yesterday to find out what page I was on. Now I have to make sure I don't say a word to her about it!

I finished it at 10:30 last night! When can we start discussing? I loved it!

sjsoffer 08-03-2008 11:19 AM

I was at the mall last night and bought a copy at the border's there. just walked in and grabbed it. I'm more than halfway done. :)
(did i mention i ordered a copy from amazon but it won't be here for about a week? now i have an extra copy )

WinniBug 08-03-2008 04:43 PM

I bought mine yesterday morning after I had my hair done. I also went to my 10 yr class reunion last night...so I'm ALMOST finished...less that 1/4 of the book left....but what a twist she threw at us!!!
LOL, I love that the rest of y'all are just as dorky about this book as I am!

AGDee 08-03-2008 08:31 PM

My daughter got to the end of Jacob's section and yelled "MOM!!!!!!!" I ran in there to see what was wrong, figuring there was a spider in her room and she said "Did Jacob imprint on _______________?" And I said "yup!" and she started laughing hysterically. I couldn't wait to see her reaction to that!

tnxbutterfly 08-03-2008 09:20 PM

I was at Borders today and there was a group called "The Bella Cullen Project". TBCP is a trio of girls who has recored an album based on the Twlight books. Here's their website www.bellacullenproject.com

polarpi 08-03-2008 09:29 PM

Okay - still reading BD, but I'm so glad this thread is here so I can come back and blab when I'm all done with it (although I have skipped ahead and peeked at what's coming...;))

I'm *one chapter* from being done with Jacob's story so I know what's coming next :D

icelandelf 08-03-2008 10:53 PM

I got the book from the B&N release party (they had a BUNCH--even for those like me who didn't reserve a copy :) I just finished it. Wow is all I can say.

DoctorD 08-03-2008 10:59 PM

y'all just shhhsssh.... I haven't had time to read it yet! I have my copy, but no time... frustrating, I tell you!

amycat412 08-03-2008 11:40 PM

I'm reading! My local grocery store had it for $15. Go figure! hee hee

WinniBug 08-04-2008 07:41 AM

Ahhh!!!! I finished it before I went to sleep last night!!!!
I wanna talk about it now!!!!!

I got it for $13-something at Borders

AGDee 08-04-2008 01:33 PM

So I call my daughter at lunch just to check in and it goes like this:

Daughter: "I can't talk to you, I'm reading"
Me: "What page are you on?"
Daughter: "734!"

Heh... I should hear from her soon.

amycat412 08-05-2008 01:37 AM

I'm DONE! When can we discuss? :)

AGDee 08-05-2008 06:22 AM

Well, the Twilight boards on Facebook and the Stephanie Meyer site have re-opened so the spoilers are all out there... I was wondering though if we should start a new thread just for Breaking Dawn with a spoiler warning?

DoctorD 08-05-2008 12:15 PM

I'm reading in bits and spurts when I can [y'all should have seen me trying to cook dinner and read at the same time last night!], and I've just started Jacob's section.

I will TRY to behave and NOT read this link until I'm done.... so if you are just dying to talk, I think it would be ok

I will be done by Saturday, for sure.

ETA: I normally read books like these in less than a day. This is truly a sign that I've got too much going on that I can't get the book read.

NOW!

lol

I'm really glad Jacob now has his rightful place in Bella's life!!

epchick 08-05-2008 05:54 PM

So this book made me rethink being so anti-Team Jacob. He really matured this book! lol.

I'm sorry Renesmee has to be the dumbest name ever. lol. I was hoping that once Bella got over the fire that she'd rethink the name. Carlie was much better as a first name.

This book was much more...adult(?) than the other books, which I found refreshing.

I knew the Volturi would be involved, especially when Bella got pregnant & with the whole thing about the "immortal children" @ the beginning of the book.

WinniBug 08-05-2008 09:41 PM

I know, I wasn't thrilled with the name either...
I couldn't believe it when Bella got pregnant!!!
Edward completely fell apart in this book!
I love how the "shape shifters" and the vampires are totally connected now!!

A lot of people are pissed about this book, they think there wasn't enough sex and violence....If there was more violence, someone would have died, and I'm really glad none of the important characters did!!

What did they want? Like in depth descriptions of Bella & Edward having sex? I thought there was plenty of sex in the book! Especially once Bella became immortal.

It was nice seeing Edward being human, in this book.

AGDee 08-06-2008 06:41 AM

I agree about Reneesme.. icky name. My daughter and I both thought it was funny that Jacob imprinted on her. That definitely leaves the truce in place. I was also in shock when Bella became pregnant.

Interesting perspective from my 14 year old daughter. She did not want Bella to change (although figured she would in this book) because "She's way too young to be making decisions about forever, she's just stupid" I was rather surprised to hear her say that, but it reassured me that my 14 year old is wise beyond her years and is still into making smart choices for herself.

An interesting observation of my own... although everyone who met Reneesme was enamored with her, I didn't feel that for her. I didn't think she was written as very likeable.

I liked that they resolved everything with Charlie too, so Bella didn't have to give up EVERYTHING like she originally thought.

icelandelf 08-06-2008 04:47 PM

I wasn't really happy with this book, but not becase of the lack of sex and violence. I thought there was too much back pedalling and rationalizing so that everyone, save the Volturri and Irina, got what they wanted.
I figured early on that the only way Bella would be changed would be for some life threatening event to happen so the baby was too easy a plot device so that Bella and Edward get to be immortal but PARENTS TOO! I never warmed to Renesmee, and totally agree that it is a stupid name. Shortening it to Nessie as a cute nickname only reenforced how silly I thought the name was.
I always thought of myself as a Team Edward girl, but through the course of the books I grew to really love Jacob. There were times that I wanted to slap him upside the head but I really loved him. The one great big thing that I did not love was him imprinting on Renesemee. I thought Meyer was throwing a red herring in the story when Bella continued to assume that she was carrying a boy. After reading the scene with Quil and Claire my ick factor started kicking in. I suspected that this was how Meyer would give everyone their happy ending.

All in all, this book didn't work for me. I adore the rest of the series, and I plan on rereading Breaking Dawn to see if my opinion changes. If it doesn't, this book isn't staying on my keeper shelf.

WinniBug 08-06-2008 06:29 PM

If you end up "not likin' it", you could donate it to my school's library....
:-)

icelandelf 08-06-2008 06:37 PM

I also wanted to add/ask--did anyone else see a slight Nathanial Hawthorn like parallel with Renesmee and Pearl from the Scarlet Letter? That child just creeped me out!

I'm glad i'm not the only one who thought that! I KNEW it was going to happen because she made such a big deal about Jacob finding that girl that he'd imprint with...and then viola, Renesmee comes. I would have rather seen Meyer commit to either Edward or Jacob for Bella, not this whole "now we'll all be family!! yay!"

I still haven't decided how I feel about Renesmee & the whole Bella getting pregnant thing. I never thought Edward would change her, I thought it was going to be Alice, and I didn't think it would be under life-threatening circumstances,. So that whole "twist" was unexpected for me and I rather liked that circumstance.

DoctorD 08-06-2008 08:45 PM

I squeezed in time here and there [who am I kidding - I totally avoided what all I've needed to do the past 2 nights] and have finished the book.

Better than the last few - I'm actually glad Bella is finally not the helpless female who must always need protection.

The twist at the end with Alice was the only one that threw me... the rest I saw coming.

All in all, though - good crack cocaine for the mind. I'm satisfied.

ZTAMich 08-06-2008 08:51 PM

My little sister (biological, not sorority) went to the midnight release party but our mom had already ordered her a copy on amazon. Poor thing JUST got it in the mail today!! She's trying to finish her summer reading for HS and start the book too!

AOII_LB93 08-12-2008 12:28 PM

This book just had a whole lot of WTF in it for me. I knew Bella was going to change, that I was fine with and even wanted, but I hated the imprinting, Renesmee/Nessie, Rosalie thing...ugh. I don't know I will re-read it, but it didn't make me want to continue reading the way that the others did.

I'm still kind of "meh", I think I need to re-read and digest before I have a real opinion. I wanted a knock down drag out with the Volturi though...boo.

LttleMsPrEp 08-12-2008 03:05 PM

Breaking Dawn wasn't what I thought it was going to be... there were def. alot of WTF and OMG moments.. i loved that bella got pregnant but Renesme didn't come off to me as adorable as stephanie tried to make her out to be. I def fell in love with Edward again in this book and thankfully Jacob wasn't that much of a douchebag because in Eclipse i soo wanted to choke him. but i didn't like how he got all pissed when he realized that edward and bella were going to have an actual honeymoon (helloooo what did he expect???)

I'm happy but disappointed at the same time that no one died.. i think i'm more anxious for MIDNIGHT SUN (Edward's version of Twilight) to come out.

by the way did anyone else notice that at the very end of the book it's advertising for a Twilight Guide... i don't think that's neccessary.. but maybe that's just me

epchick 08-12-2008 04:21 PM

I still say its because Meyer tried to make everyone happy. Nessie was born and Jacob imprinted so that it could make the "Team Jacob"-ers happy. Plus Nessie's birth also gave a reason for Bella to go through the change.

And although I wish they had fought with the Volturi, there would have been noway the Cullen & friends could have won. I know I wouldn't have wanted dead Cullens.

WinniBug 08-12-2008 06:13 PM

I think she was also pressured by her publishers

LttleMsPrEp 08-12-2008 08:32 PM

You're right I would've definitely been devasted if any of the Cullens died... for a split second I actually thought Alice left (how dumb right?!?!)....I actually think that I want to reread it just to see if I missed any clues that wouldn't have left me as surprised about jacob imprinting...

I only wish that the series had a soundtrack so that I could hear the song that Edward composed for Bella.
