Sigma Delta Tau
Our thread leader, Alpha Frog said in a later post to do this however we wished. It just seemed easier to post the individual chapters and let someone elected by our fearless leader coordinate and collate the results for each sorority. Since many of the NPC sororities did not use the Greek letters in order or added numbers, this seemed the best way to make sense of chaos, which is what I do best.
I had each chapter perfectly lined with the Greek letter name, school and founding date, but when I hit submit, everything went awry. I have tried to fix it four times and each time, it does the same thing, so I think I will wait for my son to get home and have him take a look at it...that's why we have kids, right? Paula M. Just as a help--not that it will be needed for a while--DPhiE's chapter rolls goes through all the single letters first, then instead of Alpha Alpha it actually goes to Delta Alpha. When done with the Deltas, it goes to Phi Alpha, etc. And when done with the Phis, it goes to the Epsilons. After the Deltas, Phis, and Epsilons are done, THEN we go to Alphas, Betas and Gammas....

All right, I've almost got the Gamma chapters done, but I don't have a copy of Baird's so I'm at the mercy of the internet. I can't find Kappa Delta and Phi Mu's Gamma Chapters. Any clues?

Kappa Delta's Gamma chapter was founded in 1902 at Hollins College. In 1929 the college prohibited sororities on campus. KD's Gamma chapter, therefore, is inactive.
ETA: According to 2 editions of Baird's, Phi Mu's Gamma chapter was founded in 1906 at Winston-Salem. I believe it met a similar fate. |

Tri Delta was petitioned by a local sorority called Omega Delta and since Delta was now Simpson College; they were allowed to keep the local name. Simpson's chapter was installed as Delta Deuteron in 1897 but was changed when the Iowa State chapter closed. My books finally came in handy :) |

I'll try to make this simple: Look at the Greek Alphabet from end to beginning (always leaving off Omega, as that is for deceased members). Psi is the first chapter...proceeding through single letters until Alpha. Next, repeat the backwards alphabet again, this time using the second letter "Alpha" ...Psi Alpha, Chi Alpha...until Alpha Alpha. Next group begins with Psi Beta, Chi Beta...until Beta Beta. There are a few exceptions, but basically -- that's it! |

There are no Omega chapters whatsoever. Omega is for departed sisters.
No, the chapters can end in the same letter and keep going. For example, we have a Delta Delta chapter at Cal-Santa Barbara, Alpha Alpha, Theta Theta and a few others. And yes, there is a Beta Alpha. |

Yay Jess! I'm so glad you continued this thread with the Epsilons. I'm learning so many interesting things.
Just a tidbit of info for KD's Epsilon. Originally, we had an Epsilon chapter at Elizabeth College (1903) but it only existed sub-rosa for a year before KD decided that sub-rosa chapters were not a good idea. We refer to that chapter as Epsilon Prime and the LSU chapter as just Epsilon. :) So is anyone up for doing the Zeta chapters? :D |

And if Pi Phi uses states in their lettering system, do they not wear chapter guards? Or just single letter guards and say they're from whatever state?
