"Have you Ever" by Brandy---oh boy, this produces some sad memories! Whenever I am going thru a breakup (like right now), radio stations seem to play this all th time! or maybe I just notice it more http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif. The lyrics speak so true.

Also there is this great, sad song (it's a slow, "soft" music, light rock sorta song) which goes:

"There's a danger of loving someone so much...When you know your heart won't be touched...There's a reason why people change so much..."

arghhh thatsong is so sad and good...I cried yesterday when it playd. Too bad I don't know who it's by!

Does anyone know of a song that talks about "showing/seeing your true colors...that's why I love you"????

It's really beautiful--it's a soft rock/slow/adult contemporary type. Thanks!!

newbie 05-23-2001 10:24 PM

Hey Bubles! Where have you been girl?! Yes, I know the song that you are talking about unforutneatly http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif I do not know who the artist/song name is, either. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/frown.gif

The song is "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper. It was used as a Kodak commercial in the late 80s

Falling in love songs

"Love is Stronger than Pride" Sade
"Cupid" by 112 (particularly significant)

Break-up recovery songs

"Vanishing" by Mariah Carey, and "My Dear" by Mint Condition. My roommate hated those songs. Everytime she came in to them, she knew my X and I had fought-again.
"I fall to Pieces" Patsy Cline

Instant Dance Songs

remix to "I Get Lonely" by Janet Jackson
"Tainted Love" by Soft Cell
And I am ashamed to admit it, but "Scrub the Ground" by the Splat Pack. It was a COLLEGE THING!
There are so many more.

SigmaChiCard 05-24-2001 10:04 AM

The songs that stir up emotions in me are:

"With or Without You" by U2
I've basically been love with this one girl for about 3 years now. I've never acted on it entirely - we kissed twice, but that's it. We've always been plagued by bad timing, or geography. But this Song reminds me of how I feel about her, not to mention we'd danced to it together, and sang it to one another. she's the type of girl that has caused me never to be serious about anyone else, because no matter what - they're not as good as her - because they're not her.

"Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton
This is another song that reminds me of Mary Katherine - that's her name. It was this PJ-motiff dance we had, and this was my favorite song of the time - I'd always said I wanted to her this song while falling in Love. I found someone with the CD and got it to take to the dance. I accidently left it, and about 45 minutes later ran back to the dorm to get it. I did, and I had it dedicated to her. She told me it was also her favorite song, and we sang to one another. Talking about all this is making me even fall in love again, harder.

"Spoon" by DMB
This Song was played at a concert by some of my friends and it was the first time I'd heard it - this was also three years ago. About 200 kids were sitting on the great lawn in front of this Library at Centre College in Ky, and this other girl who is just an amazing person and I danced to it, in front of all those people sitting on blankets!

We were entirely alone, and she is the type of Girl also that I could so easily fall in Love with - and it's not so much the words, the tone in which the song is sang is what evokes the emotions.

SigmaChiCard 05-24-2001 10:10 AM

And How Could I forget "Kissing You" by Des'ree

I made my sister listen to this - and she liked it so much that she used it as the song her and her hubby danced to on their wedding night

It's from Romeo & Juliet
and it is amazing, it reminds everyone of anyone they ever cared for, or care for

SH80 05-24-2001 10:21 AM

All songs, except for one by Papa Roach.
They don't sugar coat!

Tight Rope, has the most significance to me,
because I am always walking on thin line between what is good and what is evil. Most of us do, in fact.

CRMSNTiDEGRL717 05-25-2001 12:00 AM

The 2 songs that have the most significance to me are
1. Time of your life--- by Green Day, b/c it was played at the end of cheer camp the last year i cheered, and u can apply to anything else you're going through in your life, its always possible to get teary-eyed w/ that song.
2. I will remember you---by Sarah Machlachlan(SP), it's our senior song(hs)and one of our teachers, who has an AMAZING voice, is singing it at graduation *sniffle, sniffle*

"Kissing You" is so beautiful! I may have to steal that idea.

Miami1839 05-25-2001 10:52 PM

"One" from U2. "Respect" from Erasure is another.

"Oh what a night". Makes me think of formal.

I remember another song by Mariah Cary that always takes me back to a XO formal I went to once. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Most of Pearl Jams Greatest, Nirvana, Alice in Chains and STP take me back to my days as an active.

When I was little my parents in okinawa used to have this certin kind of stereo. They use to play these songs over and over. The Beegees, The Village People, The Eagles, Moody Blues, John Denver, and Ann Margaret? stand out in my mind as a few. Esp. when theyd have parties. The stereo is outdated now but it had all kinds of seventies(late) hits and whenever I hear them it takes me back to the days when I was on that island. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

SigmaChiCard--"Kissing you" is sooo beautiful!! It's my fave soundtrack on the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack...

Also...that is so sweet about you adn mary katherine...it brought a smile to my face http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif. Why don't you ask her out again--it really sounds like you two really like each other, just haven't gotten the timing right so far! That U2 song is beautiful..isn't it?! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Lots-a-Heart 05-27-2001 11:17 AM

I think the song is called "Angel" or "in the Arms of an Angel" by Sarah McLaughlin. It is significant because the morning after the Swissair Flight 111 went down a in a little cove near us, the radio was all about the recovery (my dad was there to help and we got the phone call a couple of minutes after it was confirmed a plane went down, so I had been up most of the night knowing what had happend). Since I was a media monitor at the time, I had to listen to six hours, back to back, of local coverage about the tragedy. When I turned on the "rock" station after my monitoring they were talking about it there too. But then the music had to go on and they had a new song by McLaughlin and in it the lyrics go "In the arms of an Angel, may you fly away from here" I broke down at work and now everytime I think of that song, I think of the 229 people who died and those that had to recover the bodies and personnel stuff, as they will forever be scared by those images.

Patty Smyth. I LOVE THAT SONG. She sang it with that guy from the Eagles. Oh shoot what's his name. Anyways. I remember that song because it just simplified how love is awesome but dangerous.

newbie 06-04-2001 07:23 PM

How about the song that goes like this:

"ooh, ooh, I wanna fly so high..." It's sung by a female, but don't know who exactly!

It was played at the Last Dance a couple of days ago...what an awesome song!!!!!!!!

gammazetagrl 06-04-2001 11:57 PM

Holler by Spice Girls--lol, not exactly the most romantic song, but it became my ex's and i's song because we joked about the lyrics a lot although we appreciated its beat and melody n stuff...and the lyrics!

Stay by Destiny's Child-when I had those there-might-be-trouble feelings w/ our relationship I knew this would be the perfect breakup song. I listened to it for 2 days after we broke up. "if i loved u a lil bit longer/if our love was a lil bit stronger/would u stay,stay?/baby pls stay/if i granted all of your wishes/gave u more than touches n kisses/would u stay,stay?/i need u to stay"

Closing Time by Semisonic-this was played during his semi formal as the last song and we were just dancing in each other's arms... *Sigh*

Wonderful Tonight (some old song)-we slowdanced to this in his formal and he whispered how he loved me.

okay i better shut up before i start crying =)

KSig RC 06-05-2001 12:44 AM

For that girl you want to be with:
311 - "Sweet"
DMB - "Crush" (i mean seriously)
Chris Isaak - "Pretty girls don't cry" (amazing song)

For the girl you are with:
Unwritten Law - "Cailin"
Bob Marley - "Guava Jelly"
Louis Armstrong - "I get ideas" (i think i said that earlier, but whatever - best song ever written)

For when you're by yourself:
OAR - "Ran away to the top of the world"
Unwritten Law - "Holiday" (for a pick-me-up)
Bob Marley - "Three Little Birds"
Sublime - "Romeo" (the chorus is "I am a Romeo with no place to go" - that's definitely a 'dumped' song!)

Rudey 06-05-2001 04:58 AM

KSig definitely nailed a couple great songs. But dude, I don't know if I would use Cailin on a girl I was trying to get. It sorta talks about the end of something: "Well it seemed like yesterday...". It is definitely a quality song and my friends and I heard it when we stopped off at a diner on a road trip we took. It was cool because it was such a weird time. Everyone was breaking up with each other before college and none of us really had any huge commitments to anything that summer, so it brings back memories.

Also a couple other songs.
Live - Lightning Crashes
One time it came on the radio and everyone knew all the words, so we turned into a 10 member chorus in front of our then girlfriends.

Live - I alone. It brings back memories of hanging out with one of my old girlfriends just as friends. The relationship ended but we really did care for each other after.

REM - Losing My Religion. This is my sad song. This is the song I listened to repeatedly after I got dumped for my best bud in 9th grade.

Verve - Freshmen. This is just one of those songs that was popular and just really cool.

Jill Scott - All her songs are awesome and I recommend them because they're sorta poetry/ sorta r&b...it's hard to explain. She's the original voice in the Roots' You got me before Eryka Badu got in on it. But love rain is the song to play while with a girl and One if you just broke up.

Harmony_13 06-08-2001 01:18 PM

I love Losing my religion! I think I was in the seventh or eight grade when I first heard that song.
Rudey, I'm so feeling you on Jill Scott. I listen to her cd just about every day. The songs I listen to the most are A Long Walk and He Loves Me (Lyzel in E Flat).
When I first got the cd, my seven year old sister heard me play it so much in one night, she knew the songs within the next two days! LOL

I've always loved Lady In Red by Chris DeBurgh.
I love anything by Boyz II Men...those are my boyz!!!
The songs that have the MOST significance are:
1.Sweet Lady by Tyrese (one of the first songs my sweetheart sang to me during one of our late nite chats)
-Use Your Heart by SWV
-Something in Common by Lala Hathaway (I think that's her name)
-Pretty Brown Eyes by....Can't remember!
There are a whole lot more. He made a habit of serenading me over the phone while I was away at school.
I love that man!

I can see where ya get that, but for me it sorta runs more in the 'it's better now that we're together' vein - here's the full lyrics for ya, maybe it'll add even more to it for ya! plus you can see what i'm saying w/ the "songs for the girl you're with" part of the deal - good songs on your part too by the way.

Unwritten Law -
5: Cailin

Well it seemed like yesterday
When the world was looking dark
It felt so cold and grey
And why the hell am I even here
What's the purpose, all I feel is guilt and hate and fear
'Til that you came along
My heart was empty
Like the soul was missing from a song
And I thought I'd loved a few
No one ever made me feel
The way that you do
Hey little girl
Look what you do
Oh, I love you
Hey little girl, I love you
Well I know I'm not always right
And girl it breaks my heart
When I have to see you cry
So many things I wanna say
Now I know that you're the reason
That I'm here today
Whenever you're here
Just stay near
We'll be alright, yeah alright
Hey little girl
Look what you do
Oh, I love you
Hey little girl
Look what you do, and you do
When all my love starts running thin
I got you my own Cailin
Hey little girl, I love you
I'll be alright
But I need you close
Please stay tonight
As long as you're here
Just stay near
We'll be alright, yeah alright

LOL Cami...I totally know what you mean. My ex and I had a multiple no. of songs, but we had this one caleld "Blue" by Eiffel 65...remember that??!! It was such a popular song for awhile...and then it died out. But we had a funny time trying to figure out the lyrics...turned out to be nothing more than "Da ba di da ba die" or whatever (can't remember the song right now).

Oh yeah, I have a new song that holds meaning...

"Here's to the Night" by Eve6 (sp????)

"Waiting for Tonight" - JLo This song came out during my senior year of high school. My boyfriend of the time was going to college in Denton (near Dallas) and I hadn't seen him in about 6 months. He was coming down for my prom and this song was pretty much a "how I will feel on prom night" type of song.

"Amazed" - Lonestar This was the first song my ex-boyfriend and I danced to.

"Angel of Mine" - Monica AND "Earth Angel" - The Penguins (old school) Song my ex would sing to me b/c I was "his angel."

"Bye bye" - Jo Dee Messina The song I played over and over when I was pissed at my ex and decided to break up with him

"In the Middle" - Jimmy Eat World My A-Phi family song.

"Was that My Life" - Jo Dee Messina My current theme song. It's gotten me through some hard times.

Pretty much every DMB song- one of my exes introduced me to him, and I've always associated them with him.

Music from rides in the Magic Kingdom- They make me think of Disney; Disney makes me happy. (Yeah, I'm a dork.) Put smiles on my face every time I hear them. :)

Show You Love-Kilo Ali
My best friend from college and I started hanging out together. This is the song that was playing when we did our first cheers and drunk dance together.

Just To See You Smile-Tim McGraw
My ex, Clay used to love my dimples because they were so deep. He played this song for me all of the time.

Tonight The Heartache's On Me-Dixie Chicks
I got my sister to listen to country music for the first time. She used to hate it until she heard this song.

Just Don't Happen Twice-Kenny Chesney
I learned my first line dance.

Push-Matchbox 20
My best friend from college broke up with her boyfriend. We played this song on repeat the first time we heard it.

As Long As You Love Me-Backstreet Boys
My ex, Clay played this the day that we broke up for good. He gave me my ring and told me that I was 'one of the great ones'.

A Beautiful Morning-The Rascals
After I get some good a*, I play this song the next day because I'm feeling so good.

Take It From Here-Justin Timberlake
I'm getting ready to get some a* and he puts me in the mood.

Satellite-Dave Matthews Band
The first time I heard this song. . .I fell in love with DMB.

I could go on.

CarolinaCutie 04-29-2003 11:53 AM

This is such a good thread!

Have you ever been in the situation where you are listening to a song with romantic significance (like your song with your ex) with a new boyfriend or girlfriend? It is so awkward... I don't know, when it happened to me I just freaked out and I'm sure I turned all red.

But there are always a few songs that are great for reminiscing...

The Boo Bop Song (I Love You Too) from Pete's Dragon-
This song is so cute, innocent, and sweet. My ex and I used to sing it, with me as the little boy and him as the dragon. Aww.

It's Your Love- Tim McGraw and Faith Hill-
Such a good love song... so perfect.

Basically the entire CDs of the first and second Dixie Chicks albums remind me of good times in high school with my girlfriends.

Other than that, I never know what is going to move me. If I'm having a particularly emotional day, just about any sad song on the radio will make me cry.

AlphaSigLana 04-29-2003 02:25 PM

White Chocolate--- why did Clay dump you if you were "one of the great ones?" he made a big mistake.

Rio_Kohitsuji 04-29-2003 03:45 PM

"The Dolphin's Cry"by Live- This was my ex's and mine old song. Dammit. Had to waste a great song on him. *grrs*

"TKE Sweetheart Song"by The Lettermen- Teehee :) This is my great, super sexy, honey of a boyfriend song that he played for me when I was pinned *awws* Everytime I listen to it I get all girly :p

"Fallin" by Alecia Keyes- Same boyfriend and same me's song. :) One night we were coming back home from a date and I thought he was breaking up with me (the subject we were on...) well, I started crying (good ole' girl trick) and we found out it was a HUGE misunderstanding. When we were making up that song came over the radio, and he made it apparant he wanted that song for us :) *le sigh*

"She Shook Me All Night Long" by AC/DC- Oh yeah, me and my best buds song :) We'll start singing and dancing to this song no matter where it's playing, hehe :)

ztabchbum 04-29-2003 04:09 PM

Love this thread!

"The Promise" by When In Rome - this is my chapter's song. Everytime it comes on the radio, I immediately grab the phone and start calling people and just let it play on their voicemail/answering machine to let them know I was thinking of them.

"Let's Get Married" by 112 (? I'm not sure?) - this is my song with my boyfriend. We met at a club and this was the first song that we danced to and ever since then, it's been our song.

"Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)" by Green Day - yet another ZTA song from when I was in school.

"Feels Like Home" by ? (I do know that it's on the Dawson's Creek Soundtrack) - this, yet again, is another Zeta song. We have a sister that sings it during Pref's during Rush and no one can hold back the tears.

I have a bunch more from high school but I can't remember who sings them or what the titles are. I think on is "Oh What A Night" - one of my good friends was a year older than me, so she drove me to school and we listened to that song everymorning for a year. I think we went through 3 tapes because we listened to it so much. :)

"My Best Friend" -Tim McGraw: My fiance's and my song because it's so true about us... we were best friends before we started dating!

"Wonderful Tonight" -Eric Clapton: My fiance sang it to me once while we were dancing to it at one of my formals.

"Love Can Build a Bridge" -The Judds (or maybe it's just Wynonna?): My chapter's song... we always sang it to the PNM's on pref night and it was so touching that it got me! (I was undecided until that night)
