I understood what you were saying (I know you were directing that at Sue E.) I don't know if my suggestion would actually work - I don't know if you can put off dropping out or not. I think their intentions were good, but they show a lack of understanding of how major this is in the lives of the women involved.
I am so grateful my school did recruitment before classes started (they don't anymore though). I have no idea how anyone onvolved on either side can concentrate on school with formal recruitment going on. |
Oh - the previous discussion about numbers - it was 800 PNMs give or take. I haven't heard about drop outs yet.

Irishpipes,
SC Panhellenic is doing almost the same schedule with a slight difference. Recruitment began last weekend through Labor Day and resumed on Friday evening. That makes four days with both the actives and pnms sharing classes and meeting on campus. Preference and Bid Evening are today. Apparently, the bid lists were submitted late to Panhellenic and may make the 8:00 Bid Party time much later. Classes resume tomorrow after an emotional and exciting Sunday. In my opinion this schedule is a land mine of potential problems. Let us hope it all works out for the ten NPC chapters. What are your thoughts? Fan |
Well, I think that sounds crazy. How will those new members at SC go to class tomorrow? Totally exhausted? (I guess they have taken most of the fun out of bid day anymore so maybe it isn't as bad as it would have been in my day. Ha ha)
Seriously though, from what I've heard SC is also a big, competitive rush and that is really asking a lot of everyone involved. If we are serious about girls being in college to get an education, we shouldn't have the largest distraction from school interfere with that - especially when there are no excuses for missing recruitment events. Just my opinion though. |
My daughter has an amazing ability to focus so she's been able to concentrate on the big first exams she's having this week. She says many of the girls, however, cannot keep their mind on studies this week. They're going 5-6 days without knowing results from this past weekend's round. It also sounds like a little dirty rushing is taking place.
|
bless her heart-it must be incredibly difficult to have to wait so long and then to have to take exams on top of that!! good luck to her and all the other pnms.
|
Are they finished yet at Arkansas? Just wondering!
|
Bids go out at 6:00 p.m. I know our news and quota, but can't post it yet. :)
|
I hope everyone did well!

Roses to Arkansas Pi's!
Happiness and jacqueminot roses to all 72 of those AOII NMs!!!!! :) And kudos to the AOIIs who represented us so well during FR!
My way...is the Pi way! I hope all of the houses had as happy a beginning to their school year! |
Congrats to you and your new pledges.
Any word on the other chapterS? |

I hope to hear tonight, but my contact was about to collapse from exhaustion!! |
I had faith that they would do great! You could tell by their colonization and initiation pictures that they were off to a great start! Congratulations to the 72 new AOII new members! I love to hear of our chapters spreading the love of AOII!!!!
|
Yay AOII! This is such an incredible feat, acing recruitment at Arkansas as a new group! :):):) May you have many many more years of fabulous rushes!
|
Does this double the chapter size, irishpipes?
|
|
It's my understanding that yes, they are now at or above campus total.
|
We actually ended up with 73, not 72. They thought one girl didn't accept, but as it turns out she is on the track team and couldn't be at bid day.
Campus total is 130 and AOII is well above that now. We had around 90 active members before FR so we are around 160 now. |

I think participation on one of The Hogs' teams is enough to excuse a NM from bid day. Best wishes to AOII and to the other chapters too. |
I just found out that one of my favorite girls in the world is a new member of AOII at Arkansas!!!

It seems odd to me that campus total is "only" 130 if the new member classes are that big! |

Many chapters have close to 200 members or more. They just haven't raised total. I don't know if that's intentional or just something that's been neglected. There is still one chapter below total and another that hovers right around it. |
The daughter of a good friend from church just pledged Kappa Delta at Arkansas!
I'm getting to know SO many Kappa Deltas! |
It is my understanding that quota was 68 not 63 at Arkansas. Was there a sliding quota according to chapter size?
|
There is no sliding scale. Quota was 63, but they allowed a lot of quota additions.
|
My daughter and four of her friends are now Kappa Delta's too! They are thrilled :D
|
Congratulations to your daughter and her friends. They will love Kappa Delta.
I know they offered bids to 75 and Pi Phi offered bids to 77, I understand. It just seemed strange that quota was so low. Obviously, I am totally out of the loop as to how this works. |

I think snaps may be involved as well because one of those groups was below total. They allowed a lot of QAs too though - more than the usual 5%.
|
Woohoo! There are 3 new Zeta babies, 2 new Kappas and 1 new Phi Delt at UA.

I have heard second or third hand that a PNM at bid day opened her bid in the Greek Theater to find a House for whom she hadn't attended a pref party. She apparently hadn't been told this was coming and it obviously set up an uncomfortable situation. This seems rather tactless.
Given the numbers reported here for three Houses (77, 75 and 73 with a quota of 63) does Uark operate under some sort of guaranteed bid system? Without knowing the facts, is it possible that the numbers over quota could include such a PNM? In any event, how does a girl show up for bid day and get blindsided in front of everyone? It could end up being a match made in heaven, but I'm sure it doesn't feel like that at the time. |
Though I never heard of it happening at Arkansas, I know for a fact that that happened when one of my daughters was rushing. I started a thread on GC but have no idea what it was called. Anyway, 2 girls in her recruitment group opened their envelopes right next to her to find the name of a third group whose parties they hadn't attended since the first day. Then I started hearing about that happening all over the state.

Girl preffed A & B and ranked A & B and signed the bid card, but comes on bid day to find a bid to C If she declined that bid would she be bound to it for a year? I would think not since her signed bid card after pref had only A & B on it? |
I don't see how they could hold PNMs to it since sorority C wasn't on the card they signed after prefs. My daughter said that the 2 girls never reported to sorority C, that they just left the grounds.
