*6 foot inflatable palm tree.
|
Stainless steel toothpick holder and paper towel holder. I totally bought them too.
|
This isn't so much weird as outrageous. I was just checking out a friend's registry (at Nordstrom) and saw:
*a $250 gravy boat *$200 salt and pepper shakers *a $100 wooden mixing bowl Seriously? I've heard of having nice things on your registry, but I think that's a bit much. |
A friend is getting married in the spring and she's registered for TWO ice cream maker machines at two different place....just seems a bit much to ask for two.
I am going home in November to register for my wedding. I'm actually excited about it. Most New Orleans girls register at Adler's, so I'll do my formal china, crystal, and silver there. Then some place fun like Williams Sonoma for everything else. |
This same couple is registered for:
* a $2,000 plasma TV * a $300 set of FOUR beer glasses * a $500 wall hanging I can totally see wanting fine china and lots of nice things if you are moving into a new house or something after your wedding. But they are moving into a 1 bedroom apartment. They won't even have room for HALF of this stuff. |
A few years back, my husband and I went to a friend's wedding. Let's call her "Sara".
It was dead obvious to anyone who knew Sara that her mother had had a lot of say in her registry. The registry included a setting for SIXTEEN, including wine glasses that cost $50 EACH. I doubt Sara and her husband would be entertaining seven other couples at once, particularly given that they live in an itty bitty apartment. We gave them a check, so that they could buy things they might actually need and use. |
I just checked one of my friends' registries, and they have registered for not one, but TWO sets of Lincoln Logs. Different sets of course. :p I thought it was funny.

AND IT'S EVEN ON CLEARANCE!! The Lincoln Logs Conestoga Homestead Building Set they want is too! How can I pass them up? I guess this is the "Beyond" part of Bed, Bath, and Beyond. ;) |

WHAT??? Lincoln Logs come with plastic crap now? I'm not that old but I still remember building a cabin and trying to get the wood "shingels" to stay on top of it. What is this world coming to...I'll tell ya what, Honest Abe never had any plastic with his logs... |
My husband's cousin actually registered for a Playstation console.

One good friend of mine registered for an electic toothbrush and replacement toothbrush heads. As a joke, I gave the replacement toothbrush heads as part of her shower gift. She had to wait the other 4 months for the toothbrush (that was the wedding gift). |
I had lived out from college for three years before I met FI- he didn't have anything, but it was good cause i have EVERYTHING. My aunt and I are really close and she had given me everyday dishes- set of eight, then later she gave me the entire dining room set (china cabinet, table, buffet) and the china and silver she didn't want anymore.
We have all the daily needs, but we are registering for the china pattern I want, the formal silver we like, and new everyday dishes and flatware mainly because what I have isn't really me, and he doesn't like it either. We are also registering for nice sheets and plush towels. Other than that, a few small electric appliances for the kitchen, some practical kitchen things, and maybe some items we want for decorations. I really don't know what to register for, and I am like the earlier poster, I don't want a million frames, a million small appliances we don't need, etc. Ugh. As for tacky stuff? Condoms KY Jelly $100 giftcards |
I know lots of couples who register for board games, and I those are always my favorite gifts to give, because I'll usually get them one or two they asked for, then a small travel-sized game so they can take it on their honeymoon. (one couple was obsessed w/ scrabble, so much so that they had a honeymoon scrabble tournament w/ the magnetic board I gave them).
As for me and my husband-to-be...don't think we're going to register. Not because we have everything, in fact, we have nothing because we haven't lived together, but because we're most likely going to live in Scotland and we can't be lugging dishes here with us. Sooo, we might register for small/packable things (sheets), but aside from that, we're hoping that the lack of registry and the word-of-mouth of our move will give people enough direction if they decide to give a gift. |
Do register for nice linens - or you will get hundreds of picture frames and vases.
I like to give the Deluxe Spicy Wedding Gift Set from www.penzeysspices.com to friends and former students who don't register- it's always a big hit. |
A have a wedding in Feb. They have been living together for awhile already and both of them are gamers. they made a wish list on Amazon.
|
The strangest thing I saw on a registry was a garden hose. It was at the gift table! I laughed when I saw it. Now that I am a home owner, I can see why they did it. When hubby and I were making our registry, we went from one end of the apartment to the other. We made a list of everything we needed replaced, wanted upgraded and really wished we had on a regular basis or when hosting guests, before we went to the stores to register. My favorite and most used gift is still my toaster oven-four years later. We are very practical people though, and really didn't want unneeded clutter. |

The salt and pepper are probably nice grinders. |
A college roommate registered for furniture at Pottery Barn. She got married pretty soon after she graduated--I thought it was a little pricey at the time as most of us had just gotten our first jobs.
I was once invited to the wedding of an acquaintance (the invite was emailed to me--no joke. Pretty tacky, huh?) The bride was a pretty strict vegetarian and registered for 2 Vera Wang shrimp servers. ??? |
So, did most of you who are married register for the whole trio aka silver/china/crystal??
When we got married we only registered for fine china(along with reg china). I didn't want crystal or silver because I knew I'd never ever use them. My mom thought I was making a huge mistake. Almost 5 years later, I have used the fine china about 8 times, and still would never have used the crystal or silver. My cousin, who got married last September, didn't register for any of that. I was just curious what th emajority of folks are doing these days, I guess. |
We didn't register for any of that either, we just registered for really good everyday Noritake and flatware (and didn't even receive all the place settings for that -- what if you only get 5 of your 10 registered sets? I didn't want to buy all that china myself). Between my mother and grandmother, I'll probably end up with 2 or 3 sets of fine china and silver some day and we don't do a lot of "formal" dining here at home either. We had other things we needed for the house more or frankly, were happy with cash gifts that we could spend ourselves.

We've only registered at two places. BBB and Home Depot. My fiance is thrilled with the home depot registry and going online to pick out stuff. |
The daughter of one of my friends registered for an animal-shaped toilet brush - I really wanted to buy it, but someone else beat me to it.
I registered for everything (fine china, crystal, etc.) but if I had to do it all again, I would only register for Christmas china. |
We registered for fine china and nice stemware. I make a point to use it often, so it was worth it to me. However, I didn't want to be polishing forks before a big dinner, so we just use our everyday flatware.

Your Home Depot mention reminded me of my brother -- he married a true southern belle from an "old" Atlanta family with deep local ties, people came out of the woodwork wanting to throw her bridal showers (she ended up having 8 and many, many requests were politely turned down). Their registry was done by the 2nd shower so they started "farming out" the themes and gift lists. My brother scored because at least 2 of them turned into "power tool" showers for him. |
I registered for china and crystal, as I had grown up in a family where these were used often. I too will inherit several sets from my mother, but just didn't want to wait that long.
We did receive everything we registered for, and we do use them, as that is what they are for. I am terrible at housework, I can't sew, I am not the least bit crafty, but I can make one helluva table setting! When we were first married, we lived in a tiny apartment that was too small to entertain in. We would break out the china and use it to eat pizza off of.... and then get a bottle of wine for the crystal. Somehow even frozen pizza tastes good when served on good dinnerware and paired with a great bottle of wine! (we wore jeans when we used it though... shhh- don't tell!!!!!) |
The one thing that my brother really, REALLY wanted from the registry is this toaster. Not just any toaster. A toaster that also poaches eggs. He's envisioning homemade egg-mcmuffins every day. I figured, meh, if that's what he's excited about, then cool. So I'll get that for the shower because they've already got a lovely house and can use it right away, and then get something special for their actual wedding gift (probably something bigger that FH and I can go in on together).
I adore the china pattern she chose too, it's really simple and classy. |
We are using my mom's china (but we did register for casual china). As far as silver, his grandmother gave us the family tea service. We'll get the rest of his grandmother's set and his mother's set eventually so we saw no need to ask for even more! We skipped crystal. No room for it! Again, we'll get his mom's eventually...
