DGDramaDawg, as usual, you are correct.
It's been a long time since I was at UGA, so what do I know? |
well now i'll just have to cut every blonde sophomore BETCH that comes in my house. and tell my friends in the "good" houses to do the same...
alright i'm only kidding, but who does she think she is? doesn't she realize that we're the ones who've got what she wants? and I'm pretty sure that a quality every house at UGA looks for is tact. |

I think we're all reading more in to it than UGABlonde probably intended. She was trying to say nice stuff about the majority of chapters. Let's be generous and hope that she gets a group that she wants when she goes back through.
To the OP and anyone else rushing at UGA, go through, try to keep an open mind, and rank the chapters you like after prefs. Beyond that, the more you rule out first, the more likely you'll end up dropping out or feeling weird about your results even though the groups you have left are great (which if I remember correctly is what happened to UGAblonde the first time she went through. She recognizes now that some of the chapters she had when she dropped last year are great groups.) |

I do believe it is extrememly inappropriate to recommend one NPC sorority over another. The whole point of having NPC recruitment is having each pnm make her own judgement as to where she best fits in. That was our whole theme for Fall 2006 NPC recruitment. "Where do you fit in" and it was all about puzzle pieces. To ugablonde, you might fit in someplace different than someone else. To single out one or more sororities as better than any another is abhorable.

wow...
ya'll are all sooo defensive... she asked and these are just my opinions. Sorry if i offended anyone on here, i didn't realize I would cause such a commotion. I'm not saying the houses I left out are horrible. I did rush last year, went to all the houses, etc. so my opinions are def. not just based on " reputations" and stereotypes....I am not that much of a "BETCH." And no, I'm not jewish, so why would I click with those sororities? Maybe you guys are so offended because what i said was close to the stereotypes you've heard... which, I hate to say it, but are pretty true, at least in my opinion. The truth hurts sometimes.
I know very sweet girls in most of them, I just personally didn't click with them. And i do encourage people rushing this year to keep an open mind to all houses. who knows, you might end up loving one of the houses I don't love. Its just my opinion and I think I have a right to voice it on here. If you don't like it, then you don't have to listen and come to the same conclusions as me. What do I know anyways right? If I'm so wrong then why not just ignore me instead of freaking out and coming back with really hateful and harsh comments? You don't know me. and just for the record I don't think I'm rushing again this year after all. Don't think greek life is for me and i already have too much fun and amazing friends without it. Plus I cant move into my apt. until bid day so I have nowhere to stay. Also the whole process is just too fake. too bad for ya'll because i am pretty, fun, smart, and ya'll would be lucky to be my "sister." unfortunately I have much better things to do with my time and money. I have an identity without having to belong to a stereotypical sorority. cut me for all i care.... and have fun with that. I hope you feel extra good about yourself. k bye. |
?
I'm the one who wants what you've got? hmm... what would that be? what do you sorority [deleted by Mod] have that I don't? just curious.

........ Wow. I'm guessing ugablonde doesn't have very many friends that are of the jewish faith. That's like saying of a sorority that 'only takes brunettes'..... "And no, I'm NOT brunette, so why would I click with that sorority?" |

Oh, yeah, you would have to look at them as people first instead of Jews for that. My silly mistake. If you didn't "click" with groups then you should have said that, not "these are the best chapters." There's a difference. Oh and re the Chi O omittance, maybe she saw an owl flying in the shape of a Star of David and thought they were Jewish too. |

That chapter has been at UGA over 70 years, and it was going to be a real loss to the campus if they left. |
didnt mean to offend anyone..
not that i care what you guys think about me, but maybe i should explain myself better. i didn't think my little post would get such a hostile and rude reaction and that you care SO MUCH what i think. defensive defensive defensive.
Yes, the girls in STD were very sweet and one of the smartest groups on campus, but i think its fair to say that they are a Jewish sorority and i wouldnt feel comfortable in that house. thats all. i love jews- two of my best friends are jewish and i love them.. i just didn't feel comfy at STD. Thats all. and the only reason i left chi-o off is because i don't know anything about them. I am not saying they are good or bad, i felt alright with them at rush but i dont have any friends or know anyone in them so i literally don't have anything to judge them on. i am neutral. you guys are reading way too far into my post and getting way too offended. I honestly was not trying to make anyone mad. If you think DG and AGD are amazing, then more power to you. I respect your opinion. Now respect mine and move on to more important topics. Don't you have better things to do than argue about which sororities I, a GDI, think are good and bad? again, what do i know? Dont yall have jobs? A life? A sense of humor? loosen up a little. have a drink. |

Now, you could have gone the other direction, which is still politically incorrect: you could have justified why you think those are the best houses (which probably would have been "because I got along with them the best"). But, since you seem completely ignorant to this I will say it, there is no good way to determine when a chapter is "better" than one another. What the heck are you going to base that on? Number of members, how loud they sang at recruitment, how pretty they are, how many frat guys came to their philanthropy, what clothes they wear, how pretty their house is....?? What?? And what weighs in more than others? Does a good chapter GPA count more than how pretty the girls are? Does the amount of girls at the local bar each week count more than how good their sisterhood is? Therefore, if you just HAVE to share your opinions on your university's chapters....you should just say "I like these ones for these reasons". But if you ever want to gain the respect of anyone on GC, you just shouldn't say it all. |

UGABlonde, you kind of broke the protocols of GreekChat by posting a list in the first place. It's not something that is usually done on here; most threads that get close get locked.
So that alone kind of bugged people. But I'm a big fan of second chances for people, and I didn't really think you meant any harm. (After all, you didn't even list the "bad" chapters.) You need to realize though that some people really love their chapters, especially if they are currently undergraduate members, so they are going to take being left off a list of "good" chapters personally, and it's pretty natural that they would feel defensive. It seems pretty clear to me that some people were just enjoying a sassy back and forth that really didn't have that much to do with you as it did with jokes with each other, as is also typical for GC. But with what you've posted in other threads about your recruitment experience, it does seem particularly rich to me that the chapters that you left off the good list had to be the majority of the chapters that invited you to second round. So there's a little element of "who does she think she is?" going on, that if you think about it, kind of makes sense, right? Your entitled to your own opinions; everyone is. But there's a limit to how much validation you are going to get publicly from people here. |

It would just have been such good background work in the other threads for a troll or a sockpuppet.
Yesterday and today's posts alone though sure seem that way. |

Even though one poster on here tried to send some advice on the best sororities and people freaked out, you will hear MUCH worse during recruitment. So try not to listen and take each 'reputation' with a grain of salt. You are going through in the fall, so many of these houses will have all kinds of women in them because, like you, they didn't have a lot of time to get to know all of the sisters before pledging. So all you can do now is check out the national and chapter websites to see what they're about (philanthropy, etc.), try to get recommendations for every house, and connect with older girls who are in the houses already. Then join the house that feels like home. Good luck! |
As a current member of a UGA sorority, i can say that the most important thing is to go into recruitment with an open mind. DO NOT listen to what girls say in between parties about their opinion of houses, i know this is hard, but what is "home" to you may not be to them. There is no good or bad sorority, it is all where you feel comfortable and fit in, everyone has a different opinion. One important thing to look at during recruitment is the girls going to each party with you after round 1 ESP prefs... these could be the girls in you pledge class, so look around and make sure you could see yourself with that group. During my recruitment, i went in saying i was going to be an XYZ because my cousin was.. come to find out i did not fit in with those girls at all. Don't go a certain sorority because you know someone in it .. and don't be scared of them being mad at you... they won't be! like i said before everyone fits in someplace different. hope this helps! Good luck.. only 11 more days :)

I would like to make it very clear as a member of Sigma Tau Delta (STD) that I do NOT belong in a Jewish sorority. :D

I am afraid there are going to be some more sad girls around here if they don't get a grip on the reality of it. |
Wow. Even though that's not supposed to be the way it works, I hope at least the people chatting those girls up about groups have an unusual about of pull within the groups and have secured excellent recommendations for those girls too. (These are some big chapters with a lot of well qualified and interested PNMs for the most part)
The absolute worst case is that the PNMs take them at their word but the sorority women basically talk like that to anyone they know going through. If that's the case, those girls will end up miserable if/when they get cut. |
