Does anyone know if it's still like that? I guess I see what they were trying to do, but I don't know if it's really kosher.

It is not still like that, and Purdue has fall recruitment (over 2 weekends) now.

I guess I will name the last four houses because I am having trouble wirting without confusing people. I will call them IU, OSU, UC, and XU.

After second round I really was not feeling a connection with IU or OSU, and I heard some hazing rumors about IU. I guess you always hear those rumors about someone.

I liked UC, but I was really worried because as we walked down the main hall I stepped on a rug that right after I felt like I shouldn't have. It was not their crest, but I still felt bad.

I had met a couple of XU girls between rounds 1&2, and they came up to say hi during the round 2 party. I was starting to think that this might be a fit, but my heart was not set on them.

Then came the long wait until after Christmas break. I'll tell you this was torture. I knew several girls who went through rush as sophomores because they dropped freshman year because they did not want to come back early from Christmas break. In my opinion Purdue did a great thing when they changed rush dates.:D

*hijack*

OSU, UC, and XU= Ohio State, University of Cincinnati, and Xavier? Are you from Ohio (if you don't mind me asking..I'm just curious)?

*end hijack..carry on*

Z and X are next to each other on the keyboard, but yeah you're right, if this were her org, she would have fixed that.

Round 3:

I arrived back in West Lafayette only to find that I only had one invite for round 3. The good news was that I was invited to XU. I happily went to their party, but I was scared to only have one option left I had a good time. This was still not at all what I had felt with Theta Phi Alpha at GMI, but I always thought this was due to the rush structure.

Following the party I had to drive home to sing at a wedding(2 1/2 hrs). I gave my Rho Chi my phone number. She said she would call me if I did not receive an invite to formals.

LegallyBrunette 07-06-2007 01:14 PM

fingers crossed that you didn't recieve a phone call!

Momof5 07-07-2007 02:16 PM

Sad to say, I got the call. I am glad that I was at home so I could just hang out. I did not have to sit on an empty campus watching all of the other girls go to their parties.

I stayed home until it was time to return for spring semester. I figured that maybe greek life just wasn't in the cards for me. I started classes, and I really noticed all the girls wearing letters more. I guess since I had been to each house, it made me more aware when I saw the girls.

One day I returned from classes to a phone message about COB from the house I cut after round 1. At first I was not going to accept the invitation, but then I recalled meeting this girl in my calc class that wore their letters. She did not seem at all like the girl that had rushed me. So I decided to give it a try. I had dinner at the house one evening with the girl from my calc class and the girl that had called me. I enjoyed myself. They invited me to attend their pledge lock-in that weekend to meet the pledge class. I was not sure if I should go because I was not a pledge, but I did not have other plans, so what the heck.

The rest as they say is history. I had a blast with my pledge class, and never looked back. I was offered a bid, and happily accepted the invitation to become a sister of...

ZETA TAU ALPHA

As a side note: the girl who rushed me during round one actually disaffiliated at the end of spring semester. So a word to potential new members, one girl does not a house make.

This should be put in every R brochure; truly wise words to PNMs.

YaY for Zeta Tua Alpha! :D

Two sororites, now that is interesting.

I am glad you found 2 homes, this was interesting. How neat. Do you ever get to see your pledge sisters from Theta Phi Alpha any more. I know they were happy for you and it is chill for Zeta, great story and great ending. 5 kids? I thought being 1 of 4 was too much, but that is me. Still haven't adjusted but love these. These are really helping me get back into the groove. I was nervous after being going, but I feel better. Glad you got Zeta! YAY. LOL

Momof5 07-13-2007 09:12 AM

I kept in touch with my Theta Phi Big Sis for a while after I left GMI. In fact, I was shocked to receive a HUGE care package from my Theta Phi sisters one summer when I was a camp counselor. I have lost touch now, but they will always have a special place in my heart. I love my Zeta sisters and the organization, but I still wonder about the "secrets" of my first group. It is awesome to find that special place once, but to find it twice is unbelievable.
